Ladies Only (2021)
An honest, absorbing and wonderful film
What a powerful documentary allowing us to step into the lives of Indian women. The photography is beautiful and captures Mumbai's trains like rarely seen before. Highly recommended. Lessons for us all.
Black and white filming was a great idea despite India being a country filled with colour, and the mood is emotional from joyous and positive, to the senses of regret and life missed - some women embracing a changing world, while others accepted their role in a 'man's world'.
Our own life-changing and memory-making trip to Mumbai was amazing, and so is this excellent documentary. Our appreciation to all involved.
The Couple Next Door (2023)
Gossipy entertaining but so many errors
The road they live in... the cottage her father owned... the architecture was not English so don't try to kid us it was set in Leeds! Even the milkman delivered bottles which were not the shape we get in England! And how would a journalist, teacher, yoga instructor and policeman afford such huge homes? A gossipy-interesting story with potential, let down by such mistakes and melodrama. More like a first project made by a student film-maker who still had so much to learn. If the same story was re-made by a good Director, it could have had promise. No need for Season 2, people! Actors - move on to something better.
