Leverage: The Hot Potato Job (2011)
Funny episode, but I have a HUGE problem
So the dynamic with Eliot in this episode was hilarious. I love how he mocked Hardison's ability to lift something, and then got so offended at Sophie's attempt to fake his accent. Hilarious. The issue I have with this episode, is where Parker broke into the burn room and had to go through the freezing cold part of the vault first. Hardison said is was -20C and that she would have frostbite within a minute. For the Americas who watch this show, -20C is -4F. That's literally nothing. I have walked in -20 with no coat for 20 minutes. I never suffered frostbite. -4F? If you're used to temperatures like that then you're not even gonna be shivering. But even if you aren't used to those temperatures, you're not gonna get frostbite, let alone suffer long term affects of frostbite. They were acting like it's an insanely low temperature. It just really got to me. Tells me the producers and writers have never actually been in weather like that.
The Elephant Princess (2008)
Still love this show as an adult but I have some criticisms
Let me just say, I remember when this show finally started airing in the US. I instantly fell in love with it. And now years slater I still really like it. I think it's fun, exciting and it has a unique story. I especially loved the twist when Alex found out Omar was her father. But that's where one of my only issues with this show comes in. Why didn't they continue the show with Omar in the second season? We never really saw a whole lot of father-daughter relationship build up between Alex and Omar, and I personally would've really loved to have seen that. I get it's a show made for children, and they can't lay it all on too thickly. But I think it would've been really great to add that in. Anyway, aside from that, I still love this show as an adult. Some of my favorite shows as a kid were the aussie teen shows.
A Discovery of Witches (2018)
Easily one of my new favorite shows
The first season was so strong and amazing. For me, Diana and Matthew immediately have you vouching for them and you just WANT them to be together. I started watching this because I enjoyed Outlander and had this recommended to me as a similar type of story. And I am not in the least bit disappointed.
Going into season 2, I was already in love with the time travel as I am an Outlander fan. They have managed to create such an immersive world in the 16th century. It's so beautifully well done. I fell in love with Phillipe's character almost immediately. I know that to some he may have seemed boorish at the start, but to me I believe he had best intentions, for the most part. But, his acceptance of Diana and adopting her into the De Clermont's is truly such an emotional episode.
I think probably one of my favorite characters has to be Gallowglass. His character brings such emotion and absolute heartache. Right away he accepts Diana, and I grow to love him more and more with every episode. His feelings for Diana are truly heart wrenching as he knows he can never have her. But he stands by her and protects her, no matter how much it breaks his heart, because he loves her. He is truly a selfless character. It just hurts to see him wanting for something he knows he can never have. If Diana and Matthew weren't so perfect together, I would easily want her and Gallowglass together. And to go along with my being an Outlander fan, the fact that Gallowglass was also Ian Murray in Outlander, just makes me love his character more. Steven Cree seems to have a gift for making his characters the most lovable in a series.
Season three was hard to watch, but so amazing. Diana's love and protective nature of Jack is so moving. When she calls him her son, warning Baldwin to take his hands off of him, it really pulls at your heart strings. The season also shows more into the feelings Gallowglass has for Diana. I swear they wanted to rip out our hearts. Gallowglass is such a special person, and arguably the best character in the series. It's just sad he didn't get as much attention as he deserved. So I think it's awesome there's gonna be a spin-off series just for him.
Overall, I am in love with this show so much. I can't get enough of it. I only wish there could have been more than just the three seasons.
Joseph: King of Dreams (2000)
Makes me wanna cry in disappointment
First of all. For some context I'm an atheist. Now. This movie is just so sad. It's like dreamworks saw how amazing prince of Egypt did and decided "oh let's keep going with this Bible story mantra cause apparently people like that". Wrong! Prince of Egypt was an amazing movie. The animation was beautiful, acting was amazing, the characters were powerful and the music was sensational. Seriously. It was absolutely amazing. Prince of Egypt was an amazing movie. King of dreams is a cheap ripoff. The animation was alright, the character weren't very convincing and had me feeling nothing for them, and while the music was okay everything it worked up to being good it just either cutoff or hit a disappointing diminuendo. It tried to copy prince of Egypt and I think that's so sad because prince of Egypt is a literal animation masterpiece. Like I could literally only hear an attempt to copy the soundtrack from prince of Egypt in every single song. And no one wants a movie that attempts to be as great as another. You end up with a subpar movie that just feels like a cash grab for something that was previously successful. They could've done better. Literally the only somewhat saving grace and the only reason this went from a 1 to a 2 star is because of some of the music. Like I said, the music was okay. I could've really liked it. Overall. It's just sad. It's sad that dreamworks couldn't leave a masterpiece for what it was without having to followup with a cash grab movie. At least they learned their lesson with that series. Couldve ended up in an even worse place than it did. Just go watch prince of Egypt. This movie is a disappointment. But if you're left with disappointment watching the movie this ripped off then I don't trust your judgement.
The Black Demon (2023)
Honestly pretty good
The only serious qualm I have with this is the accuracy of oil rigs. I'm a pipeliner's daughter. My daddy worked in the oil field, so did my grandad and my great-grandad. A lot of the information on oil rigs was inaccurate. But whatever. Most people won't know that.
The acting was a little sad. I love Josh Lucas, but this was not one of his better ones. His acting left something to be desired.
Aside from that, I liked it well enough. I liked the characters, and I felt connected enough to cry when Paul died. The kids tore me apart in that scene. I found it pretty heartbreaking. It just left off on a really awful cliffhanger. But, overall, I thought it was decent at least.
Skipped Parts (2000)
Love this
Unpopular opinion, but I can't find it in me to see Lydia as a bad person. I really can't. She could've just let Sam be shipped off to military school and instead chose to leave with him. Yeah, she has him call her Lydia instead of mom, but that doesn't make her inherently bad either. Perhaps being a pregnant teen left her with some trauma. The movie doesn't go into that, but that's what I kinda gather. As for her allowing Maurey and Sam to have sex under her roof, personally I won't be much different when I'm a parent. I'd rather have my kid doing it under my roof and know they're safe, than tell them know and in the back of my mind know they're probably out behind some dumpsters where they could contract any number of STDs or other diseases. It was not irresponsible of her in my opinion. And she was there for Maurey when she initially went to get the abortion and when she found out her mom was cheating on her dad. Yeah, she goes out and drinks more than she should, but at the end of the day she is there and she loves Sam. No, she's not the poster of a "perfect" mom. But she is at least a good one.
The Swan Princess: A Fairytale Is Born (2023)
This was really amazing
I know the animation leaves something to be desired. It will never really equate to the magical animation of the first three films. But, this film is honestly better than the star ratings give it credit for. Uberta has finally gotten her moment to shine, and we get to see the grief she and William went through in losing their spouses. We get to see their friendship, and how they aid one another through the sorrow. It is truly such an amazing story to tell. To see come to life. I know I for one had always hoped to see more behind the scenes. We got it, and they gave us pure, raw emotion. Absolutely breathtaking in the story telling, and almost flawless in the execution. Even the comedy held very close to the original comedy we saw in the first three films. It was just altogether a different kind of love story, and a story of true unadulterated friendship. And quite funny. The flashbacks to the first film made me tear up. We got to see that glimpse of the original story and animation. We got Uberta's story. She waited 30 years for her applause, and I think this movie has earned her that applause.
I hate that this left off at a cliff hanger, but I will be here for the second and third parts (as has been announced that this is the first film in the closing trilogy). And what a perfect fit. It started with a trilogy, and so it shall end with one. All I can say is, Derek's father is alive, and I look forward to seeing the reunion. I know the other movies before this leave much to be desired, but I think this movie was amazing. And I can't wait for the next two.
Reba (2001)
I love this show BUT
Okay first of all, I want to start off saying that S6 E5 when it's revealed that Barbra Jean had been struck by lightning, I found it funny cause Brock (Chris Rich) brother had been struck by lightning twice. My first teacher was Chris' sister and told the story all the time.
Okay, now, Reba is so toxic. I have rewatched this show three times. And I am seeing just how toxic Reba really is. Yeah, Brock cheated, but at least most of the time he comes clean and admits his wrong doings. Reba maliciously tries to get back at him. Yes this is a funny show, but now imagine if roles were reversed. The only reason this is really socially accepted is because she is a woman who is patronising a man. If it were the other way around, everybody would throw a fit. So why is it okay for her to torment him? Brock doesn't throw Reba under the bus to their kids, or make her look bad to them, in fact he often defends her; but she will gladly bad mouth him in front of their children, which is absolutely not okay.
Then there is Van and Cheyenne and the way she is toward them. Last episode of season 1. She gets very upset and acts insulted at them not wanting her to be in the delivery room with them. And she judges their decision making on the matter. They might be 17, but they are still the parents. Not her, and what's most important is that Cheyenne feels comfortable. And, if that means not having her mom in the room the Reba needed to accept that and not be so upset about it. Besides, who feels like they should be, or want to be, in the delivery room if they are anyone but the father? Unless the mother specifically asks for anyone else, the only person who should be there is the father. And Reba crossed that boundary big time by being so upset. It's really weird if anyone who isn't the father wants to be in the delivery room.
There is also how she is with Elizabeth. She always acts like she is Elizabeth's mother, and like she is the most important figure for Elizabeth. I mean, the episode where they film the videos for Elizabeth to watch when she's older? Reba no only said she was going to go last, despite Cheyenne being the mother, she also stole what Van was going to say to Elizabeth. And that's somehow okay? It is common for the last one to be remembered because then it's fresh in your brain. Cheyenne was Elizabeth's mother and definitely deserved to be remembered by her daughter. Reba is constantly pushing her own views onto the parenting of Elizabeth even though she is NOT the parent. And I really wish she would stop acting like she is the parent. Same goes for Barbra Jean.
Pride & Prejudice (2005)
one of my favorite movies!
I saw this movie for the first time when i was about ten I believe. It instantly became one of my favorite movies. And it is what drew me into the world of fictional romance and part of what inspired me to start writing. One of the most beautifully put together movies I have ever seen. I love the romance, the edgy feminism of the time period that is not at all toxic, and the characters play their roles perfectly. I just cannot say enough how much I love and appreciate this movie.
I just can't stand Mrs. Bennet. She reminds me too much of my insufferable aunt. Looks and sounds exactly like her. But, I suppose there is no existing P&P movie that doesn't have an annoying Mrs. Bennet.
Lost Girls (2020)
Mari is this movie's redemption
I would give this movie a 3 star were it not for Mari. That woman is an amazing mother and she proves it time and time again all throughout the movie. So what is may reason for disliking it? Well one, it's quite slow paced and lacked a really good ending. It left off at a very boring note where we see Shannan lying in metal position, and it's barely a glimpse. I expect more from a crime movie.
My other reason. I couldn't stand Sherre. She was insufferable in trying to act like an adult when she's a child. "why wasn't I told that Sarra is on mood stabilizers?" Because you're her sister not her parent. "Why didn't you tell me Shannan was a prostitute?" Because you are a child. She's a child and had no place in such adult affairs, yet acts like she should be weighed on in every decision. I couldn't stand her.
Ginny & Georgia (2021)
The only reason this show could be a ten is because of Georgia
How do I put this in the simplest way possible? Ginny's character is absolutely horrible. I dont like her. She is a spoiled, ungrateful teen that has no appreciation for what her mother does for her. And the show paints it as if Georgia is the one who is antagonistic. Why? My guess, because she's a white mom to a black teen. And cancel culture would have us believe that white parents can't properly parent mixed children. But no, the show paints Georgia in a bad light and Ginny as if she's some super smart and mature teenager. Georgia is an amazing mother, Ginny is a bad kid. The only other thing I like in the show aside from Georgia is the attention it brings to self-harm in teens, a topic that definitely needs more focus.
