The Stand (2020)
3 stars at best
I'm a big fan of Steven Kings early works, The Stand and IT being a couple. The new IT I loved, this one, not so much. Character development was terrible and the actors and story line did not seem to be as good as the the original mini series. Whoopie Goldberg was an awful choice for Mother Abigail. Just all around terrible. It sucks that now, when they have so much better CGI that they seem to cut corners on the story and choose actors/actresses that are not cut out for the roles they are playing, (along with the director) seem to have no understanding of the original story. Almost like they read the cliff notes and popped off a movie based on those. I can't imagine that the director and producers and writers really had any real love of the story. More like they saw an opportunity, and spun one off that was completely sub par in order to make some quick cash.
Castle Rock (2018)
Wow
This series... was skeptical at first, but figured I'd give it a shot. I wasn't sure what to expect considering all the garbage that's come out over the last several years... I was blown away. It was like early Stephen King writing. I loved it and was hooked from the first episode to the last. Sissy Spacek was amazing and and come the second season, Lizzy Caplan was bang on, dead to rights, Annie Wilkes. Bill Skarsgard was perfect in the role of an IT type character. I've read almost all of Stephen King's books. This was him, dead on as far as I'm concerned. I'm no regular reviewer but this was 10 out of 10 stars for me. I don't know why they ended it after only 2 seasons, but given what they put out, this could have gone on for a much longer time. I hope they decide to bring it back in the future. The story-telling was absolutely amazing.
Race to Survive (2023)
Hardly Survival
Have done a lot of outdoor survival activities myself, I am skeptical of several aspects of this show. After 40 days burning the amount of calories they would have had to burn doing these races and challenges and with apparently very little food, they would be in a lot rougher shape than they appeared to be at the end. In fact, they looked downright healthy, as though they had been eating quite regularly throughout. You cannot put your body through that kind of rigorous demand (without adequately replacing those calories) and not lose a heck of a lot more weight and muscle mass than they did. Sorry, but to me this seemed staged. Plenty of other things that didn't quite add up, but too many to list. If you're a fan of unreal "reality" shows that make it a point to push the issues of the day, then this show is for you... But it was definitely not for me.
The Cage Fighter (2017)
Great Movie
MovieIQTest is probably some guy who lives his grandma's basement (watching mostly South Park), has never played contact sports in his life and wouldn't dare to duke it out in a ring or cage with another man (or woman)... I have.... So if you like combat sports, this is a great movie.
