Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024)
A real waste of time. Just no funny.
OK, I loved the 1st Ghostbusters movie and the original sequel. Great funny movies. As to the current version, it just seems as if it just an attempt for a cash grab. It was nice to see many from the original cast revising their rolls but it just seems like they were going thru the motions, especially Bill Murray. I truly hope the screen play was written AI as at least I could explain how unfunny this movie is. The writers need to learn how to be funny and are not just putting out such non-original crap. I truly hope that the producers will finally let go of this franchise and spend their time looking for good original scripts.
Saturday Night Live: Jacob Elordi/Reneé Rapp (2024)
Just when I thought this show couldn't get any worse, it surprises me and gets worse.
I used to look forward to watching Saturday Night Live. It was always a good time and a lot of laughs. For the last few years the quality of the program has gone down dramatically. Generally, maybe there'll be a few chuckles during the Weekend Update and the video by the Please Don't Destroy Boys is generally good. This week there were no videos from the Please Don't Destroy guys and the jokes on weekend update we're rather lame. The skits themselves were an embarrassment of unfunniness. I would put the blame primarily on the writes. Also it seems that some of the new cast members really lack any charisma. I remember watching the very first Saturday Night Live episode where George Carlin was the guest host. I was hooked back then. When you combine poor writing with poor execution by the cast you get the mess that is today's SNL. PS, It also wouldn't hurt if they got better hosts and better musical groups.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom (2023)
I couldn't wait for it to be over.
I gave this film what I consider to be a very generous rating of 3*. Yes the special effects were impressive and there were a few funny jokes but other than that the story was dull and confusing. They did try to help by having a narrator poke in every once and awhile but flow of the movie was rather disjointed. Several times I looked down on my phone to see the how much long I hand before this mess of a film was over. Look I like Jason but even Arnold is a better actor. Again while the special effects were good there was too much of it. OK this movie is turning over to be a flop just as the recent Ant Man flopped. Both I believe suffered from too much CGI. I feel that the reason that people are fatigued over these Super Hero movies that there's nothing new. Many parts of the script seems like a rip-off of Star Wars movie. Just a final thought, I had heard that Amber Heard was basically taken out of the movie but she is seen throughout the film.
Obliterated (2023)
You need to be High to enjoy this trash.
When I said you needed to be high to enjoy this trash of a movie, I wasn't kidding. It is just plain stupid. Nothing, in it makes any sense. All logic is completely thrown out the window. Nobody acts with any common sense. I know it's a comedy, but please at least give me some reason to suspend my disbelief. It truly looks like AI must have had a great part in writing this script. There's no originally. Again with that said, if you want to get high, perhaps smoke something or eat something or drink something. You may find some humor and excitement in watching this movie. To be fair it does have some nudity so that's a plus.
Saturday Night Live: Quinta Brunson/Lil Yachty (2023)
Finally an episode that is funny from beginning to end.
To be perfectly candid, the last several seasons of Saturday Night Live have been a complete disaster. I'm not saying that maybe 1 or 2 skits have been somewhat of a chuckle per show, but on the whole they have been completely unfunny. This episode is certainly the exception. Also interestingly the new members of the cast have started to shine in this episode. I'm not sure if they have gotten some new writers or not. In any event, I would highly recommend viewing this episode. One addtional thing that I could recommend is getting rid of musical acts on the show. I find that they tend to bring the pace of the show to a grinding halt.
Saturday Night Live: Keke Palmer/SZA (2022)
SNL is consistent. Another unfunny show.
The cold opening was week, followed by an unfunny host monolog. None of the sketches were able to bring out a chuckle. Next we were treated to a terrible musical guest. Finally came Weekend Update, which is the only saving grace. Those jokes were the only worthwhile part of the show; however, when they bring on a cast member to interact with the news host, in really slows the pace down. On to the second terrible musical number. The final sketch could have been cut. Unfortunately I could cut and paste this review and use it to describe most every show this season. I hear there is some talk of a possible replacement for Loren Michael's. While such a move was a disaster in the 80's, I believe it's time for a change of direction. Either that or cancel the show and put it out of it's misery.
Saturday Night Live: Brendan Gleeson/Willow (2022)
Well I guess at least the show is consistent.
The show continues to go down in quality. Each episode seems to be worse than the last. It's not so much the cast members, although many of the new ones are a bit unimpressive, but the writing is just not funny. Unimpressive hosts and self indulged musical acts really don't help either. I keep checking in. Hoping things will change but not so far. I watch the show via my DVR. I doubt I could watch it live. Generally the only portion of the show that I usually find funny is Weekend Update, but unfortunately even this week set was well below par. This show has set a low bar that I fear will continue to under preform.
Billions (2016)
Olympics storyline doesn't make sense.
The Olympic Games for 2028 were awarded to Los Angeles in 2017. The storyline would make more sense if they were trying to get the Olympics for 2036. Again fighting over something that has already been decided dosen't made sense.
