The Alfred Hitchcock Hour: The Jar (1964)
The Jar - Psychological Insight into Southerners BEFORE Technology E X P A N D E D their World AND their MINDS
Fifty years ago even though much of America had TV NOT EVERYONE could afford it? Simple entertainment brought the public out en masse! Especially those venues that were potentially FREE OR CLOSE TO FREE? If U could afford to entertain ur neighbors U were ELEVATED TO A HIGHER STATUS. Simple minds are ENTERTAINED by SIMPLE ENTERTAINMENT which explains this program.
Someone else mentioned the WRITER - Ray Bradbury! Had to read "Something Wicked This Way Comes" for English Class in High School late 1970's. It wasn't horribly gorry or anything such as that but kinda like watching Andy Griffith Show about attending a Carnival but with Supernatural overtones or a true dark side? Entertainment that actually makes U use ur brain UNLIKE MUCH OF CURRENT EARLY 21st Century Film/TV.
The Andy Griffith Show: Andy's Rival (1965)
Charles Aidman
I AM A HUGE TAGS & MATLOCK FAN, however, THIS EPISODE is where I first noticed this actor?! Just as others have commented on Helen's behavior toward Andy in this episode, which is NOW 60yrs OLD, I too was a little surprised by her behavior but since it is in the history books now I find no reason to suggest any changes? It WAS A TIME & place where unless a single female had a position in Nursing or with a FAMILY business in which she had privileges, TEACHING was considered a VERY HIGHLY RESPECTED POSITION even if it didn't pay as much as other males had opportunities to take, females even had to be REVERENT to a Male that worked in the Education field as well!?! THAT IS WHY I JUST DISMISSED Helen's behavior but understood Andy's FEELINGS towards the "OTHER MAN."
Thriller (1960)
THRILLER
I am a young 1963 Model so I NEVER EVEN KNEW THIS EXISTED! I watch METV practically 24/7/365. NO ONE that is rating this series or supplying a Review even mentioned FCC & the Time Period of late 1950's & 1960's! I PERSONALLY DONOT WATCH scary or ANY EXTREME VIOLENT programming?!?! Having opportunities to watch talent such as Boris Karloff in context of EARLY TELEVISION HISTORY IS A TREAT! I found Thriller to be just as exhilarating as Twilight Zone or Alfred Hitchcock as they are from Mid 20th Century programming when USA was still trying to figure out Civil Rights Movement & where we stood on separation of Church & State??
THRILLER Episodes were as well written as their BUDGET probably allowed? It seemed to be a GROUP OF COLLABORATORS, CREATORS, & TALENT! Once I watched SEVERAL rounds of Episodes on METV I grew ready to view SOMETHING new or different in that time slot. I WOULD PURCHASE this on DVD Series set if I found it available. I find myself watching Retro TV bcoz as I find MANY of MY GENERATION can't stand to watch what MOST FILM/TV Executives today pay $$$$ to Broadcast while I do NOT PAY for cable or satellite, I DO PAY $$ & support PBS which if NECESSARY I WOULD ALSO SUPPORT $ Retro TV to represent my affection & Memories of a Precious Time in our World when FAMILIES shared time together & were not afraid for young children to see programming if they unexpectedly walked into the room while the TV was on!!
Mannix: Hardball (1975)
Season1 vs Final Season
I had to look it up for myself... METV just began running the Initial Season of Mannix.... January 2023... They just ran Season One Episode Fourteen & after all was said and done I couldn't get it out of my head that I had seen a similar Episode on ONE of the 1970's Private Detective programs starring John Ritter so it sent me to research it on THIS website! As most diehard Mannix fans are aware In The Beginning.... Joe Mannix worked for Joe Campanella @ Intertech in Season One... Episode Fourteen starred a young Lynda Day whose Daddy was the drug runner....
Several years later... Several Successful Seasons the Producers recycled that Script while adding a few things BOTH EPISODES WERE WONDERFUL... The Final run on this story of a Father successfully running drugs now switched it up to THAT Daughter's Fiancé working with Daddy because originally he needed a job and she told him "My Daddy will give you a job."
John Ritter as ALWAYS performed as he did throughout the remainder of his career that ended WAY TOO SOON!
If YOU had that "nagging" feeling as well after watching either episode... THIS is the ANSWER...
Perry Mason: The Case of the Twice-Told Twist (1966)
🌟BEAUTIFUL EVERYTHING🌟
While many younger viewers can't stand B&W, I LUV being able to see the WONDERFUL colors & wardrobe from a different time & space.
Someone else mentioned Ford providing so MANY vehicles it made them obviously a Sponsor of THIS EPISODE? My little Brother was born the Year this episode airedSentimental to see almost 60yrs later. Producers probably appreciated the $$$ it took to make THIS
Early IRONSIDE feeling here as well.
I purchased the 50th Anniversary release before seeing this color episode. I was ALREADY AWARE of the diff in set colors & decor for lighting purposes as other reviewers mentioned other Networks ALREADY filming🎥 in color...
With SO MUCH SAID about Oliver Twist I almost expected to see the"rough character" Mr Burr played previously w/his English Accent straight out of Dickens.
