The Guardians of Justice (2022)
I liked it way more than I should have
There's every reason to eviscerate this show, but it has an odd appeal. Dallas Page played Diamond Dallas Page playing Knight Hawk and the rest of the cast was campy and way over the top at times, although Sharni Vinson did a great job as The Speed. The costume design looks like they handed a Hobby Lobby gift card to the crew and said "do your best". The animation was very good in places, and actually carried some emotional weight in contrast to the live action. The only place the mixed media fell way short was video game sequences with green screen actors, and the pov sequences. Flaws aside, it actually had a well-mapped out plot, but it could have used some polish. Before viewing, I saw reviews critical of the ending and I was prepared for some sort of let down or plot.contrivance. Really, it just ended differently than most might think, and I actually liked it, but it could have benefitted from more build-up in previous episodes. In all, it was stupid fun and a good waste of 3-1/2 hours.
The Orville: A Happy Refrain (2019)
Wow! Great episode
I'll admit, when I saw the promo for this week's episode, I had reservations - based mainly on my tepid dislike of the Next Generation episode that inspired it. This episode far surpassed expectations! It was heartwarming, funny, and generally made me a happier person for having watched it. It was great to see human Issac and Yaphit. The music was a nice compliment, and the way "Singing in the Rain" was worked into the plot was brilliant. Definitely the best episode of the season, and vies for best of the show's run.
