Spider-Man 3 (2007)

When I first saw Spiderman 1&2 I was not very impressed. However, when I went back to them i quite enjoyed them. They were, in my opinion, not the best comic book films, but not the worst, either. This one was a disappointment. Not only was it quite boring (the whole film followed the same romance-fight scene-romance sequence) but the villains were unspectacular, and in Venoms case, pointless. This annoyed me in the sense that Venom is one of the most famous villains, and his desperately short screen time disappointed me. Sandman was an interesting character, but not a great enemy. In my opinion it should have been Rino. Peter Parker and Mary Jane are OK characters, but hollow and predictable, even if their acting is top notch. So, I find myself drawn to Harry Osbourne. He is the best character in the film, and his performance is not overdone so is easy to watch. The Directing, is good though, and the fights brilliantly mastered, but few and far between. Bruce Campbell is great in his small part.

So, it is OK. May be better as a rental, or if you are a really big fan of the Spiderman series.

If you are a fan of Comic adaptations, I recommend the following: Ghost Rider, Batman Returns/Begins, Superman, Blade (1+2), and Fantastic 4 rise of the Silver Surfer.

Not the worst (comedy) horror I have seen, but close
29 May 2007
There was a time, I am ashamed to say when I was into low budget cult horror movies. Ah, you might say that is not too bad. Halloween, The Fog. Plenty to choose from. However I did Not Watch these. I saw Critters, and these. Dam.

It basically stars Jenifer Aniston as an American City Girl who has gone to the country of Ireland (Original for a Leprechaun movie). there two boys find a pot of gold and keep it from the others. Low Budget, badly acted and directed and scripted mayhem ensues. Ther is actually more mayhem going on of screen than on. It would be fine if it was actually funny, and had been aimed at younger kids, they would have lapped up the weird green man causing havoc. But when it is rated 15/R for good reason (it is bloody in parts), which 15 year old is going to go for this when they could go for all those better films out there? It is not all bad though. Some of the gore is suitable stomach churning, and Warick Davis is not that bad. Leprechaun 2 is worse, and that is rated 18. Don't go see.

Fantasy Fun
25 May 2007
I love a decent sword and sorcery epic. I have heard a lot about this, and decided to buy it on DVD. I had never read any of the comics, so did not know what to expect, all I knew was that it had Arnie in it, and contained 'strong bloody violence'.

The first half does drag on a bit. we See Conan(Arnie) as a child, and his village massacred and his young self forced into slavery. here he takes part in Gladiatorial contests, and his rise to stardom. He is than given the chance to be free, and he takes it. Que a long, brutal, bloody revenge saga.

After about an hour to actually get to the revenge bit the action gets going: And what spectacular action it is. Decapitations, severed arteries and group sex all follow. Arnold plays his character down to a tee, stripping his characters dialogue. The direction is lavish, and it really draws you into his world. all this is accompanied with a magnificent musical score.

Go see.

good for gore, bad for plot, acting and script

I have seen Final Destination 2 and was very impressed. the deaths were funny and realistic(?). I was eagerly anticipating this third instalment.

The roller-coaster ride at the beginning is well staged, and features one stomach churning death. After the premonition the seven go their separate ways. Until they start dying in suspicious circumstances. They soon realise that something is not quite right...

When you sit down to watch this film get one thing straight. IT IS NOT MEANT TO BE REALISTIC. It is just a load of fun to watch with some mates and laugh at the unlucky teens being picked off in a bucket full of cgi blood. The deaths are inventive, if far fetched (the gym death is standout)but be warned, whilst it is a 15/R it is seriously bloody/gory.

Overall, it is a great rental, and can be watched over and over again. Just maybe in the next instalments they could pick better actors, and a new script. 3/5
