Ben 10: Omniverse (2012)
Not bad at all
With so many negative reviews regarding Omniverse, what possibly can motivate you to watch the show? Well, let me say that i have been putting down watching this show for years, I thought it was a reboot of some kind and the art style seemed childish at first. But it started to click.
This is a direct continuation of Ben 10 Ultimate Alien, the only thing that differs is the art style, and yes, it may get some getting used to, but it's great for what the show is. Of course, some design decision, like alien redesigns (fat BigChill), Grandpa Max redesign, and other things will never be the same, but if you can look past this minor issues, I think you can really enjoy what Omniverse has to offer.
It still is a show for kids, but so are the prior incarnations. Yeah, you may argue Alien Force has a more mature tone, but that too was abandoned after season 2, so Omniverse still has the same maturity as the classic series, the Alien Force and Ultimate Alien.
Sure, this show suffers a lot from being a episodic content, where a plot is introduced and resolved on the same episode, but so are the other shows, and yeah, you can criticize it, but you can't say that it's the first to do that or that it is different.
Some of the new aliens aren't that cool, or straight up don't make any sense, but I'm not gonna judge a show for the coolness factor of the heroes designs.
All the new characters are well-written, at least the ones that join the main crew, and unlike Alien Force or Ultimate Alien, the writing and characterization remain consistent.
This series shines with the worldbuilding. We get to explore different planets, dimensions and different species. Old villains join too and they all got a chance to shine and/or redeem themselves. The new villains are a welcome addition to the roster, and have since become classics.
The best episodes are really where this thing shines, and let me say, some of the better episodes of this series surpasses the better episodes of the other series. We see Ben and the crew change some major events, and even interact with the Ben of the past, which is always a welcome addition.
I was reluctant at first, but this show won me over.
Let me say, if you care to mind, if you pick every episode's score on IMDB and calculate the average, you will find that Omniverse has an average of 8.06, contrasting with a 6.4 average score. And if you do the same with the other series, you will se that the Original Series has an 7.73 average score, Alien Force has an 7.65 average and Ultimate Alien has an 7.36 average, putting Omniverse well ahead of the others.
Thank you for reading.
BoJack Horseman (2014)
It Broke Me
A series about a talking horse really broke a person. If you think this is a sitcom or a critique of some sort, you'd be wrong.
It may start off as a comedic series, but it has a lot of depth, and it never really abandons the comedy elements.
Every 11th episode is a masterpiece. Every episode you follow a different "bad" human being, and some of them you root for, some of them you don't.
And then there's Bojack. Probably the biggest piece of ****. A hugely complex character. Seeing him is like watching a disaster unfold, you know there's gonna be some consequences, and maybe some casualties, but you can't really look away.
It's a character full of flaws, full of holes and probably unredeemable. But it's the journey of him trying to be a better person that will get you. For every try there's a fail and for every fail that's a step you take in the Downward Spiral.
The shows reaches a complex peek, and never tries to justify his actions. You just understand where they come from, and you accept that some things can't be changed.
If s06e15 isn't a masterpiece, I don't know what is.
