Overlord (2015)
Honestly fantastic.
This is the one where I finally understood why weebs love naked anime women. I get it.
The anime is fantastic from the start. A maxed level overpowered warrior basically gets a NG+. Seeing how the main character interacts with the NPCs reminds me of the times I played the Fire Emblem series and developed an in game bond with the characters. It has a sense of nostalgia. The fights are entertaining, the characters are unique, there are some comedic aspects to it. It's great. Give it a watch.
It's not 10/10 because the story doesn't go the way you think it would go. It starts off with you believing he's the overlord of his tower. They introduce each floor guardian to make you think this is where the story takes place. But the MC leaves and becomes a hero disguised as a low level nub. Idk why the story goes this way. Right now he's riding a giant hamster. 8/10.
Dexter: New Blood (2021)
I gave it a chance.
Dexter is supposed to be about a man with an uncontrollable dark secret. But here I am after five episodes and this man with the uncontrollable dark secret has it pretty well under control and has only killed one person. I don't know what's going on in the rest of these episodes, It's just fluff and has nothing to do with what Dexter used to be. He's supposed to have murder constantly on his mind but it's not the case at all. It just kind of proves that he could have stayed with Hannah and Harrison and had his murder tendencies under control. There's no real reason for him to leave Miami at all then. The show is really just about a guy that lives in the woods whos estranged son, comes and lives with him. I'm not a fan of any of these new characters at all either. This story is going nowhere. The show is unfortunately boring as hell.
I guess the only good that the show has done was tie up loose ends about what happens with Harrison and what happens with Hannah. I think it come back for Dexter really would have had great potential and it's too bad this is what we got.
Scream (2022)
So stupid.
How does Tara get stabbed so many times and live? Before the opening credits the killer raises their hand implying a final blow and the next sentence is like "oh Tara is alive". These main characters are insufferable. It's not the only time a character is morally wounded and lives however.
Sam's character is so bland but I think the actress might just be terrible at acting. She cannot deliver a line at all.
Poor Jack Quaid got roped into this trash film. These characters act like the 'cringe redditor character' that people make fun of all the time.
I'm so sick of the exposition they insist on doing in these movies, you are going to hear "are you telling me..." "So you're saying...." It's so stupid. If we've seen the first 4 movies we don't need them explained again in every sequel.
Also bringing Billy Loomis back as a hallucination but he clearly looks 25 years older was pretty funny.
2/10 because I watched it still.
Wish (2023)
A disappointment
I WISH I had spent my time and money on a more fulfilling cinematic experience. Despite its intriguing premise, the execution falls flat, resulting in a lackluster and forgettable movie-going experience.
One of the main issues I have with this movie is it's predictable and cliched plot. The narrative follows a tired formula that has been recycled and countless other films, failing to offer anything new or original. It's as if the filmmakers pick the plot from the bottom of the recycling bin and dusted it off, hoping the audience wouldn't notice the lack of creativity.
The lead actress's attempt at portraying a complex character comes across as wooden and unconvincing, leaving the audience detached from any emotional investment in the story.
Creepshow: Bad Wolf Down/The Finger (2019)
Uhhh
Lot of plot holes in Bad Wolf Down. Army soldiers are trapped in a home and then accidentally shoot a were-woman. She goes on this spiel about no more bloodshed or killing, but then creates 3 more werewolves before killing herself. Nazis show up and try to gas the Americans out. Nazis go in the gas filled homes and remove their masks(?) and start getting killed by army wolves. 3/10.
The Finger was a banger. Fingerbanger if you will. DJ Qualls finds a mysterious dessicated finger in the street that is slowly growing into some type of monster. He doesn't seem to mind apparently and loves having the dead finger around. 7/10.
Creepshow: Gray Matter/The House of the Head (2019)
3/10 for 1, 8/10 for 2
Gray Matter was pretty bad. I wish they would've given Tobin Bell and Giancarlo Espinoza better roles and writing. The "child" actor in this was laughably bad too. He just kept saying 'daddy' every 2 seconds and it was weird. The writing was bad and the acting was worse. That's all there really is to the first half.
The House of the Head, however, was EXCELLENT. It had an original premise, the acting from the lead child was great, and I actually got scared a little bit hahah. I wish the story was a little longer because it would've been nice to see that play out. The ending was a little bland. I thought when she found the life size head under her bed, the same thing would've happened in her home. Would've been cool.
X (2022)
Idk man
The movie is about a gaggle of pornographers renting land on a farm to shoot their smut film. One of the land owners, a sexually frustrated gross looking old broad, starts killing the pornographers off one by one. Somehow has sex with a guy after she kills him. The cast wasn't bad. The makeup used for the old lady was pretty rough looking but maybe they didn't want to hire an old lady actress to do some of the stuff she was doing. Otherwise the acting wasn't bad.
Lot of weird shib going on in this movie. Idk I feel like I could've beat the brakes off that old lady but it's a horror movie. Old people = scary nowadays.
Btw not that much blood comes from a foot if you step on a nail. We've all seen Home Alone.
Beyond a Reasonable Doubt (2009)
Really not too bad.
It was a corny movie to say the least, but it kept me entertained through the whole thing. There are more plat holes in the movie I could count. You just have to remember that this is a movie. It's meant to entertain and not be taken so literally. The plot is absolutely ridiculous: a journalist wants to prove a district attorney is planting evidence so the journalist plants evidence on a recently murdered victim to frame himself.
Michael Douglas somehow got tied up to be in this movie and he of course is the driving performance. The rest of the acting was laughable at some points. The ending was actually pretty good. Give it a watch.
Scream VI (2023)
A 5 for Scream 6
5 is a perfect score for this movie. Some parts were fun, but more parts were annoying. I really enjoyed the scene in the home and the subway scene, they really were fun. But, things get annoying when a character is mortally wounded and then is suddenly fine the next minute. A character was literally shot multiple times and then stabbed but still lived. A guy was stabbed 20+ times to a point where it was funny and yet he's fine. This happens with every character.
Then once again we get the reveal on who the killers were and we have to sit through another monologue while they could be killing instead. You mean you're trying to kill the characters the whole time but only now you're going to stop and have a conversation?? Every horror movie does this I swear. Overall it was annoying and cliche even though the film thinks it isn't.
