Whacked (1997)

Feel refreshed!

This short film is made in 1997. The genre of this film is "revenge movie". At the begging of the story, many pedestrians suddenly fall down, and ambulances drive. This film's major character is a man, who works at a golf club. He looks exhausted and frustrated because of his work. In order to relieve his stress, he takes a surprising action.

I was surprised to know why pedestrians fall down on the streets. Viewers are not able to understand why they fall down on the street. However, after watching the film, you can figure out the reason. In my opinion, this film was elaborated because in the scene of pedestrians falling down, you can recognize some golf bowls on the streets, which is the hint to understand this movie. Of course, it should be difficult to find a little golf bowl on the streets, but after watching it, you will be able to recognize them. That is why you can enjoy this film twice. In addition to this, I love the story. Because of a variety of reasons, such as relationships, crowded cities, depressing news, people should feel frustrated. However, when you watch this film, you can feel like relieving some stress, so I do want those who feel irritated to watch the film.

The type of this short film is drama and war. The film was made in 2007.

Heinrich, who is a young boy, plays the piano with his neighbor David.

However, David is a Jewish boy, and one day his family is taken to a camp. Because Heinrich's mother tells him that David's family will go to a toy land, Heinrich wants to go there with them. On the day when David' s family is taken to the camp, Heinrich tries to follow them, getting out his home without his mother realizing it. This is why she is so surprised to see no one in Heinrich's bed, and she starts to look for her son. While looking for him, there are moving dramas.

I really like this film. At first, actually I had difficulty understanding the storyline, but after watching the movie twice I could figure it out. The most impressive point of this film is that Heinrich's mother is incredibly brave and smart. In order to find her son, she looks around a variety of places. Even after she realizes that her son is safe, she never gives up to do something meaningful. As I mentioned above, this film is a little bit hard to understand, but it is definitely worth watching.

Fish Out of Water (2005)

This film was made in 2005. In this story, a man commuting to work by making a use of a boat faces unexpected situations, and the story is written in an amusing way. Although this movie does not have any dialogue, I can understand the film's story easily. I can guess actors' feelings, which makes me get interested in the film. Watching the film, I realize how helpful human's facial expressions and effective sounds are. Thanks to these elements, viewers are able to get quite a lot of information from the film. The film taught me that we mostly depend on verbal language in daily life, but there are other ways to convey a story. Considering the points mentioned above, I believe this movie is worth watching.

Lifted (2006)

Amazing

Made in 2006, "Lifted" is a kind of a SF film and is the story of a small alien taking an exam under the supervision of a big alien. In this movie, the small alien strives to pass the exam, having difficulty operating a machine properly.

I love "Lifted" for the following two reasons. Firstly, in my opinion, when you watch this movie, you have to pay attention not only to characters' behaviors but also to other motions such as movements of an object, an appearance of light, and so forth.

This is because the movie does not have dialogue. Although you may think that it would be difficult to figure out contents of that kind of film without dialogue, fortunately you should manage it easily because there are quite a lot of hints like characters' facial expressions, actions, sounds, and motions of objects like I said earlier to understand the movie. In addition to this, the story is composed of funny, cute, and somewhat weird characters. For these reasons mentioned above, personally I really like this film, and do want other people to watch and enjoy it.

This short drama film is about the change of the relationship between Alistair and Samir as they meet. As you can infer from the title, they meet five times. However, their situations are completely different whenever they meet. In addition to this, this film is not in chronological order.

I want to share this film with anyone I meet for the following two reasons. The main reason is that the film's title "Two strangers who meet five times" gives viewers some hints. One of them is that the two protagonists meet five times, so you can expect what happens in the film to some extent. However, interestingly they are in different situations, and their personalities also change every time they meet. This is why while watching the movie, you should be surprised and enjoy it. Another hint you can get from the title is that Alistair and Samir meet as strangers every time they meet. Thanks to these hints, you can understand this fantastic film more deeply. Secondly, viewers will see their growth as the two protagonists get old. At first, their relationship is terrible, but as the story proceeds definitely you can understand why their relationship is horrible at the first scene, and you will be moved by the last scene. For these reasons mentioned above, I love this film a lot.

Born with It (2015)

Cruel but genial

Made in 2015, this film is a family movie. In this film, Keisuke, a black Japanese 'hafu' boy, has a hard time at school and tries to overcome the situation with his mother's help.

In his class, most students look at Keisuke with suspicion just because of his dark skin, though one kind boy treats Keisuke as a normal person. Under this situation, Keisuke continues to struggle.

I think that this film teaches me the importance of the existence of a mother and how cruel racial discrimination is. In my opinion, without Keisuke's mother, he would not have gone to school. Thanks to his mother, he can have courage to return the school in spite of the threat of teasing from his classmates. It is no wonder that viewers realize again how brilliant mothers are. In addition to this, this film teaches me the cruelty of discrimination. Of course, the characters are so young that it is possible that they do not make a right decision and tease other people just because of others' physical differences. Still, I believe that discrimination is too cruel to accept. Through watching this film, I strongly think of the importance of proper education in order for children not to discriminate against others in the future.

Three Days in Kamakura (2012)

The Real interpersonal relationship

"Three Days in Kamakura" was made in 2012. It is a romance and family drama, and in this film, Japanese and English are used. In this story, David and Keiko do not get along with each other since Keiko cannot have a baby, but Jay, who is a 'hafu' Japanese kid and David's student in the English conversation class, changes their life. He cures the strain between them.

I love this movie because David and Keiko can get along with each other, thanks to a little kid Jay, and finally they may be able to remove their tension with their neighbor. During three days in Kamakura, you can enjoy the changes of the individual characters' feelings. However, maybe you have difficulties understanding the storyline because of many types of background knowledge you should have, like the type of scar Keiko has. Still, I believe that this film is great.

J'attendrai le suivant... (2002)

This French film was made in 2002, and it is a type of comedy. The female main character waits for the one to get married with. One day, taking the escalator, she looks at a couple enviously. After that, she rides a train, and she finds a guy, who speaks to passengers, saying that he has never married and is looking for a single woman. Also, he says that he wants someone to get off the train if someone wants to get married with him.

I love this movie because the main character does not speak at all in the film, but viewers can understand the story well by listening to what male characters say and focusing on the main character's facial expression. In addition, while watching this movie I was so curious that I really wanted to know what would happen next. Considering these points, I would say that this film is extremely attractive. Although I am sorry for the main character, still this movie is so impressive for me.

Knick Knack (1989)

Funny but Cruel...

"Knick Knack"

Made in 1989, this film is about a snowman, who tries to go out of a snow globe in order to meet a girl. In the short movie, he makes use of some tools such as a hammer, a drill, and bombs to exit the snow globe.

To be honest, I do not like this film for the following reason. The main reason that I dislike it is that the snowman is so unlucky that he has difficulties going out of the snow globe. Even though other souvenirs enjoy their time together, the snowman has to stay in the snow globe alone. In addition to this, other members do not help him go out of the cage and just see him play trial and error, this is super cruel to the snowman. Of course, it is good that this short movie is written with funny plots and unique songs, but still I cannot help feeling sorry for the snowman.

Father and Daughter (2000)

-about the film- Made in 2000, this short film is about a father and a daughter as you can imagine from the film's title. In this film, a father says goodbye to his daughter, but she continues to wait for him even as she ages and grows old.

-opinion- In my opinion, this film teaches the concept that even if you go somewhere for a long time, your family members should wait for you for years and years. In addition to this, I think this movie is so realistic that viewers of this film will realize the importance of their family. Because you are not sure where and when you or your family members will disappear in the future, I cannot help thinking that I must enjoy being with my family.

This animated movie does not have any dialogue, but does have nostalgic sounds and animated pictures, which give viewers many types of perspectives. When you cannot understand the movie, you will be able to broaden your horizons by talking about it with your friends. For these reasons, I believe that viewers will be happy.
