True Detective: Night Country: Part 6 (2024)
Straight Up Garbage
This season had a few moments of "ok, this can be interesting", but ultimately it was boring and absurd. They used a few cheap tie ins to season 1 to keep people somewhat intrigued and ultimately that went absolutely no where and emded up just being a lame tactic to get people to watch this trash. Take those tie ins out and people would not have stuck with this at all. Jodie Foster was fine, but this other lead was terrible and does not belong acting in anything. The writing though deserves the most criticism. Just utter pointless drivel and bad melodrama. Hated this. Season 3 was light years above this in quality despite a lame trick ending too. If this how they want to do True Detective going forward, don't bother.
Alexander: The Making of a God (2024)
Enjoyable despite its flaws
First off most of these reviews clearly did not make it past the first episode for various reasons.
The gay angle being put forth in the first 15 min or so seems to have upset people. This has been a debate for a long time with Alexander. Did you really expect it to not be included, especially coming from Netflix? I'm on episode 6 now and it is barely mentioned again. So if they needed to put that forth in the first few moments and get it out of the way to hit the Netflix absurd quota, fine. It is not a big deal.
The accuracy. Again it is Netflix. I am shocked it actually was entertaining and covered SOME aspects correctly. It is still a drama and meant for entertainment. There is no way to cover all Alexander accomplished in this type of show. This focused on Darius and the battle with each other. Simplistic, absolutely. Missing a lot, definitely. Still worth watching, I think so.
The casting. Again with Netflix the fact they did not cast Alexander as black is surprising in and of itself. I had no issue with the casting at all. In fact the guy that plays Alexander I think fit perfectly and if they ever do a proper Alexander story, I would like to see him play the role again.
Heavily flawed no doubt. Maybe I have been starved for something about Alexander for a while and was just happy with getting something.
Nope (2022)
Inconsistent Mess
First off, the trailers showed way too much. They also unfortunately showed the more intriguing parts of the film. What could have been a good Sci fi horror film ended up being an inconsistent mess that ended up being pointless and quite frankly stupid. The first half tries for sci fi horror but mostly misses, then the next half is just generic poor "action". None of the characters act as if they would in those situations. There are messy edits all over the place with quick cuts. The side plot of the monkey goes nowhere and should have been edited out completely shortening the movies length. Then the few interesting scenes that could have been frightening they do not push it, and end abruptly.
Very disappointing. Though it was nice to see Michael Wincott again even though he is wasted here.
The Gray Man (2022)
So dumb
I am really surprised Gosling made this film. It is bad in just about every way. Over the top and corny cgi that looks out of place and ridiculous. Absurd scenes where people are in a town center and just start shooting the place up, then magically no one is around. Russo brothers are basically making another stupid Marvel movie that just is not Marvel. Huge disappointment all the way around. How movies like this with massive budgets keep getting made while ending up mediocre at best or in this case, flat out dumb is beyond me.
House of Gucci (2021)
Yawn
Not sure how this script attracted so many big names. Overly long and not very interesting in the least bit. The direction is nothing special. The acting is pretty bad to be honest despite the talent. All trying very hard to have the accent and it just verges on overdone. Lady gaga who was pretty darn good in a star is born is very miscast here.
Girl in the Picture (2022)
Good documentary until the end
The filmmaker seriously did not think to include what happened to the evil scumbag that did all this? Not include if the FBI asked him about other crimes or cases? I don't understand how you could just end it without those things.
On another note most of the people in this are selfish people that failed that poor girl repeatedly. They should be ashamed of themselves for not speaking up. Especially the high school "friend".
Lastly, if we had a proper system of putting these people away for good, or down for good no one else would have been hurt after that pos raped a 4 year old girl and was out a few years later.
Outer Range (2022)
Reminds me of the Leftovers but not as existential
I do not understand people reviewing shows after a few episodes. Some of these reviews do not even make sense talking about monologue after monologue that went nowhere. People have a hard time watching Sci fi that does not spoon feed you every little detail or answer you want. This was a well acted, well written, well directed mystery that I hope gets a season 2. More so with all of tv being the same drivel over and over these days, this was very unique and original. If you like mysteries and original ideas that do not require all flash and action give this a go. If not, stick to Marvel.
