Chained (2012)
Refreshing Take on the Serial Killer Genre
This movie is hard to watch at times due to the graphic nature and twisted storyline. As humans, we can all relate to being defenseless and the loss of innocence. You really feel for the victims and the character "Rabbit".
That being said, It was refreshing and different from your typical serial killer movie! The acting from both leads is absolutely phenomenal. You get lost in the story.
The twist at the end was excellent and unexpected. I really enjoyed watching it and was incredibly entertained from start to finish.
The one plot hole is the character of Angie. You don't know what happens to her or why she didn't alert the authorities.
Other than that it was a great watch and I would recommend to anyone that likes twisted, dark stories.
The Oak Room (2020)
Dark and Cerebral Gem
This movie was very entertaining from the start to the ending. It leaves you with a chill down your spine. The people complaining that they had to puzzle the story together are the same types of people that need to be told exactly how things happen and stories need to be easily explained and simplified for them. The movie is really dark and yes everything is pieced together at the end. It had a great twist and was really suspenseful. The ending is left for you to decide what happened/ happens. It was very clever and the story telling was incredible and well done. The actors were top notch and believable. Definitely recommend!
Barbarian (2022)
Interesting story.... Be my little baby
I actually really like this movie. This movie had a really interesting an original story where I wish they would've went into more detail. I was very entertained and I think this movie was really well-made. The acting was amazing. It was definitely spooky, and there were a few jump scares the story hasn't been done before so that was really refreshing. I wish it was a bit longer because it was such an interesting horror film. They could have built up the back story on the house and the original owner a bit more but that would be my only critique. I would definitely recommend if you need a good scare.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
So stupid yet couldn't turn it off
This movie is in the I have to be under the influence to enjoy genre... it has the certain sense of stupid/over the top humor that some people really do appreciate and love. I had to be severely drunk to watch this with my boyfriend (he loved it btw). I found it to be entertaining (maybe because I was so numb from the copious amounts of wine) and a bit bombastic. This is the type of movie that is so silly you can't believe it could get sillier... it does. You become glazed over watching it. It's not bad though and don't expect to take this movie serious if you are watching because you heard it's a true story.
American Refugee (2021)
Man Screws Over Other Man because He is a Beta B
This movie is such trash... it had potential but it loses it quickly.. the lead character (Greg) tries to act like an alpha male, he feels inadequate because he can't take care of his family. Him and his wife already have some weird fight going on when the movie starts. Martial law is happening so the country is falling apart. Looting and home invasions start happening..So what does old Greg do? He begs for help from his neighbor who is a doomsday prepper. The neighbor reluctantly takes in his family. The neighbor tries to teach greg to be a man but greg can't handle the responsibility. Greg realizes how little he contributes and becomes angry. He then screws over the man that took his family in while the world was losing its mind .... the neighbor fed old Greg's family, provided shelter and gave them a place for them to hide while they can make their own plans and not be ungrateful mooches... Greg and his family simply take without contributing or even saying thank you. The mom does help deliver the neighbors baby to be fair.. Greg feels like a little man because he can't provide or protect for his family as the neighbor has done... so he tries to pick fights with the neighbor. His son Kai meddles in the dooms day preppers things and food storage and steals from him (what a great kid). He is a mute... the sister declares he is a smart boy though. I think we all know the truth with that. This movie makes you more irritated and annoyed by Greg and his dysfunction whining, greedy fam.. you almost wish the ending went differently . Save yourself the 95 min and your sanity and find another movie.
The Accursed (2022)
Fun & Entertaining
This movie starts out pretty strong and grabs your attention from the first few minutes! It's pretty spooky at times and gets your adrenaline pumping. The story hasn't been done before as another reviewer suggested. It's certainly not a new genre but it does have an original story that keeps you entertained. It was fun to watch and I think the acting was fairly good. The main character was likable and the friend wasn't one of those annoying side characters you see so much of in other movies that you hope get killed off.. she was actually likable as well. The movie could have been a bit longer to build more substance but other than that it was a good spooky movie.
The Haunting of Julia Fields (2023)
Had Potential but Fell Flat
This movie had so much potential but was a bit of a disappointment. It wasn't bad but it wasn't good..The story is a true story so they could have really took this to another level and built some substance. The main actress' acting was robotic and almost cringe. I couldn't get lost in the movie because they weren't selling me on their roles. It was obvious they are actors. Bless their hearts they tried... it could have been scarier but kinda felt like a fever dream instead. There were a few creepy parts though. I think they could have added scarier music to make you feel unease and get your adrenaline pumping. The end is really rushed and there is no build up. It just kinda wraps up where you are left wondering what just happened and you're wanting more substance and detail.
Unwelcome (2022)
Fun to watch!
I actually enjoyed this movie a lot. Visually it was stunning. Some of the shots of the woods, Village and scenery were beautiful and well done.. it looked more expensive than its budget would suggest. The actors did a great job too...the lead actress was incredible to me. It wasn't scary but it was fun and exciting and even humorous at times.. it reminded of the labyrinth and in a weird way. I liked seeing Irish lore and the story of the red caps. The ending was a twist and I think a bit symbolic. You think you know what's going to happen and it goes in a different direction. I would definitely recommend watching if you want a chill night and need a bit of entertainment.
Little Joe (2019)
Want tinnitus and a headache? This is the movie for you.
This movie gives you tinnitus every 5 min. I don't care if the movie was slow paced or story was lacking in ways... things like that can be forgiven. What shouldn't be forgiven is the forced tinnitus you will endure from this movie... I've heard of movies adding certain sounds and noises to create unease or anxiety... typically used in horror movies... this was beyond torture and gives you a massive headache only 10 min in. Even my dog was annoyed by the sound. What kind of movie tortures poor little puppies?? This one!!! It had a lot of potential but anything that could have been positive of this movie is drowned out by the high pitch whistle that plays every 5 min.
Vengeance (2022)
What Northerners and Californians think Texas is
This movie was filmed through northerner or Californian's perspective and clearly made by someone from those places. You could easily tell it was not authentic in anyway, it was only stereotypical and basic. True Texas/ southerners do not post guns outside of their cars/trucks. Most of this movie was stereotypical and not truly what Texas or the south is about. The movie had a useless plot and it no ending. There was no substance to this movie at all. Super fake. The main actor is so annoying and fake.. the story had potential but did not go anywhere. Every character is so stereotypical and fake to what Texas really is. It's what New York thinks of Texas.
