After Life (2019)
Ricky Gervais' mid-life crisis?
It's an intelligent and funny show. Great to binge watch as episodes are 25-30 min long. However, Ricky loves to laugh at other characters physical aspects while strangely enough the one he plays is being spared. At one point, he even calls himself "a middle aged man", while in reality he's 60 years old.
Frikjent (2015)
It should have ended with the first season
A very interesting series I started watching while on holidays in Norway. I had just visited various locations seen in the series so it was an additional advantage for me. However, the story should have ended with the end of the first season. The second one is basically variations about how the story would have evolved had he been (not) guilty. It's like participating in a workshop of would-be screenwriters working on the same story in different directions and each one of them having a separate episode.
Sorjonen (2016)
Spoiler: On a downward spiral from the 3rd season
This show has a really interesting main character and the investigations are also interesting but there's a bunch of developments and plot twists that become absolutely annoying in the 3rd season. What I always hate about dead characters in TV shows is when instead of just disappearing they become ghosts that only some other character in the movie can see. It's so unnatural! Is it some kind of actors' union that protects their job positions and even if a character is killed, they are still full time in the show? So annoying. I also hate how the character of the daughter of Sorjonen evolves. I mean, how many misadventures might one teenager have in 2 years? Being kidnapped, accused of murder, being friends with a perfectly Finnish speaking Russian girl who was a victim of human trafficking etc. And after each adventure just becoming a regular teenager once again. No consequences whatsoever.
And last but not least: a very annoying time plot twist. In the first episode of the first season, the wife of Sorjonen is sick and it is suggested that the story begins when she's in remission and that is why they move to the countryside. There are many suggestions that this is the right time order: sge's getting better, then she returns go work etc.
It is all ruined by the 3rd season when it turns out it was not the beginning but the end of the story, and that what you saw in the first episode was her second stay in hospital, one during which she would eventually die. Not only is it counterintuitive and contrary to many suggestions throughout first and second season but also the setting is not the same! In the 3rd season the day before her death, the wife of Sorjonen asks him to bring her a water distributor. I watched the first episode once again and it was not there in the original setting. Also it's so obvious that actors are actually 4 years older (especially the daughter of Sorjonen). It's just bad. What a pity. This is what happens when you make extra seasons on Netflix assignment only for money. I still give it 6/10 for having sment some good time.
