Two and a Half Men: Thank You for the Intercourse (2011)
Just a bit sad, innit?
I'm not sure if the studio audience was doped up when they performed this. I suppose being fans of the show they stuck with the show runner's side during Charlie's downfall and found the references to him hilarious. I guess that makes sense. I just didn't find particular enjoyment out of watching Alan emotionally distraught while a whole bunch of people belly laughed from the audience seats. Crazy stuff. Overall, i think they just wanted to keep a "screw Charlie sheen" persona up while literally needing his presence to keep it going. But I suppose that's better than what they could have gone with. They could have pretended his episodes never happened. And I do get why they came off as a bit nasty, not like Charlie was amazing to them... but it's the past so I don't know what I'm complaining about. Here's to 'How to Be a Bookie.'
Two and a Half Men: Of Course He's Dead: Part 1 & 2 (2015)
The writers don't care anymore.
The finale had its moments, albeit brief and far between. The only word I can use to describe this 40 minute bore-fest is "pathetic." After nearly 5 years since what happened between Chuck Lorre and Charlie Sheen, he still finds it necessary to show his pettiness in the show, building up to a reveal that never happens. As I said, it has its moments - but there's only a few to name as overall the finale is overall very forgettable. Am I really supposed to believe that's how the show ends? After twelve years of story (with only about seven and a half of those being in any kind of quality), they're only ruining it at this point and showing that they really do not care whatsoever how they use the show.
Two and a Half Men: Those Fancy Japanese Toilets (2011)
Once again, another episode I find on the half and half line.
The good parts of this episode are very good. But the lows only find me being annoyed. I found the three subplots to be good in their own right, but don't work too well in an episode setting and don't find themselves an even centre of attention too much. Walden's plot takes up most of the episode, while Alan's subplot that leads itself to be entertaining is rarely used, much to its high potential. Jake's subplot is entertaining but while the dynamic between him and his tutor makes sense, the tutor herself does not. Oh well, I did enjoy this episode. Although I still think that the characters are only becoming stereotypes based on their formal selves. At least they're self aware about it when Charlie's journal reads that he saw a bright future in the boy.
Two and a Half Men: The Squat and the Hover (2011)
An actually enjoyable episode!
This episode is the best of the season so far. I'm surprised by its low rating here. It took what made the previous episode half-good and made it good in its own right. Felt a lot closer to classic Two and a Half Men (not quite there, but almost!). I'm happy they brought in Charlie's therapist (a personal favourite character of mine) and the scene with her and Walden, where they essentially crack open his psychology was very entertaining to me. When they bring the girls home was also quite entertaining. Alan is great here and his dynamic with Walden works very well and I hope this standard is kept up for a while.
Two and a Half Men: A Giant Cat Holding a Churro (2011)
An improvement, but not crazy good.
Compared to last episode's painful, slow sit-through, this went by a bit quicker because I found myself enjoying the second half. The cold open where Walden and Alan discover Lnysdey's porn, while setting up the story, is painful to sit through as both characters are unbearably annoying and Alan acts completely out of character. I would have probably rated this a 7 had that been changed (hmm... maybe). Like last episode, Berta is easily the star of the show and is the funniest character. He dynamic with Walden this week was actually somewhat entertaining and I enjoyed the scene with the two of them baking and Alan acted perfectly normal in this situation. A bit of Two and a Half Men normalcy. I can only pray that this level of quality in the second half of this episode can be carried throughout the season to make it at least watchable.
Two and a Half Men: Nine Magic Fingers (2011)
After a somewhat enjoyable episode 3, episode 4 is completely derailed.
I actually found myself enjoying the previous episode, but I'm here on episode 4 finding myself annoyed at the constant sex jokes that have no relevance to the plot. Alan and Jake are both becoming stereotypes of their characters a year ago. One dimensional people - Alan is a sponge, that's it. Jake is stupid - that's it. Berta still manages to be funny here, probably the only reason this episode isn't a 2/10. Walden can be entertaining at times, but in this episode he's just a child. Even last episode, he had some ability to be an adult (albeit infrequently) but here it's completely gone. I'm hoping they can pick up the pace sometime soon before the whole show derails.
