Harry & Meghan (2022)
Mixed bag...I feel sad for them in so many ways.
Well, I was a bit surprised. My rating for the first 3 eps was 1/10, however this explains a bit more of their early Royal days. I can see why they think and feel the way they do.
Compared to other royals (Catherine in mind here - who had a LONG harsh apprenticeship) I do believe she was too hyper-reactive to the media trash stories, and the papers used too many adjectives in their headlines. Tabloids do suck, no doubt about it, and as we have seen, they do more harm than good. But I do wonder if they had stuck it out, continued on as Catherine had done, the tabloids would have found something else or someone else. She was exciting and new and stories about her sold. Period. And just because they have a life of wealth and privilege doesnt mean they dont get exhausted, feel ill when pregnant (in Australia), and in South Africa, she clearly was exhausted and just wanted some level of kindness. Money can only buy so much.
That said, if they had left it there, I would have felt far better about them. They have been their own worst enemy, and Harry is too hyper-reactive, Meghans expectations too high, and both needed to have a thicker skin. I DO believe a good % of what they say - but there is clearly propaganda - probably on both sides. Not everyone is cut out for royal life and H's previous girlfriends decided that royal life exposure is not what they felt they could survive. Meghan had NO idea what she was getting into. By episode 3 its back to whining and paranoia and probable distortions of their life events.
There was a lot of genuineness in how they communicated what they said, but not all IMHO.
In life its not what happens to you that matters as much as how you handle it - happy, sad or traumatic. Its sad they really believe the worst of their own narrative. They genuinely believe they found their life hard, regardless of how we see their life. I wont judge what they say or their versions of events. But they need to see how tone deaf they sound, and had they adjusted what they said or how they framed it - they would have had more empathy.
Lastly, no one really knows what goes on behind closed doors with complicated families, and when ppl talk about "their truth", lets allow them to feel what they do. Their feelings are their own, but as to whether we THINK its valid or not, people should allow them to own their feelings but also the consequences of their choices (Oprah interview included). The media really is destroying lives just for the $$$. Maybe we all need to just lay off and move on to more constructive things to criticize.
Harry & Meghan: The Complete Story (2022)
Boring, predictable, dull. There is no real story to tell
The actual interviews seem contrived, more banter than actual information. I was looking forward to the juice but it was dry as a biscuit. If you never knew of all the controversy there would be no story to tell. There is literally nothing interesting about these two at all, yet I have always found people inherantly interesting. Only the editing which made it appear more fantastical than it was made it almost enticing, but there was no actual content to match the promos. Just plain dull. The promos made it seem as if there was something really interesting the public never knew, it felt like the joke where you keep waiting for a punch line that never comes. Waste of time.
This Is Us: Us (2022)
If tears were a rating - it would be a 1.
For 6 years we have had every episode be a montage of past present and future. However - if in 6 years and 106 episodes they had not given us enough important moments of their younger lives to bring relevance to the end day - then they missed 105 opportunities to fill all that in. There was SO much scope for hope, finality, future lives - even the passing of the 3 kids themselves - or at least images of it. It felt as if the last episode was written with no real resolution to the whole story thread - or at least no idea how to execute it.
I was left bored and felt the episode disjointed - yeah I got what they were saying - but it was borderline dull and drawn out. This episode added NOTHING to the overall storyline. I was left with - "Is that it.... I thought it was a commercial break".
Star Trek: Picard: Farewell (2022)
I feel sorry for the cast!
After promising myself I would see it all thru - coz ya know - it could be really good, i still found it unsatisfying and dull. And the ending and the overarching theme was great. But seriously - it seemed as tho they banked on Q, the Borg Queen, Soong etc to make it appealing to fans, but really - remove them and the story doesnt really change. Each episode felt as if they were making it up as they went along. The acting by most of the cast was painful - Seven had almost no lines or real role...and what happened with Q. Just 6 hours of my life I will never get back. I agree its true trek in that its exploring the human condition - but seriously - please dont use the same writerrs again next season.
Star Trek: Picard: Two of One (2022)
Potential was all it had
Ya know - they had loads of scope to explore the role of endorphins and how it powers the Borg - they had incredible scope for Seven to have a deeper role in this plot - had it gone somewhere...i was almost excited. But Shades of Grey held more interest, they took too long to get to the point. 7 minutes of plot. A much loved characters presence is not enough to hold a fans approval. Q, Seven, Picard, Guinan...yet no complexity in plot. They had TWO WHOLE years to come up with this. Is it too late to change the script.....
Star Trek: Picard: Monsters (2022)
Huh?
Quick tip - please ask new writers to watch at least ONE episode of ANY Trek before giving them a piece of paper and ask them to scribble a plot.... Start them off with crayons under supervision first please...
Where do I send CBS a bill for my time to watch this.
