Yalanci Damat (2018)
I liked it and that's no lie
Let's be real- there are clichés and it's predictable- but that doesn't mean it isn't a good movie. I found the characters very likable with a sweet chemistry between the lead actors. Character development is a bit challenging in a short movie (this isn't a series after all) so my expectations have to be adjusted accordingly. Still the characters still managed to show an adoring spark for each other, making it much more fun to watch. The story line was not very original, but it was still entertaining. The scenery and music was pleasant but not extraordinary. I appreciate that it is family friendly with nothing to cringe at in the presence of your grandma! This is a very sweet family movie.
Yalanci Sevgilim (2020)
Lots of Lies
Yalanci Sevgilim has sweet nostalgic moments and plenty of twists in the storyline that make for a delightful little movie.
For the most part, the parts were well cast, especially the character Sami. I am questioning, however the choice of lead female, Belgin, but that's just my opinion. She didn't seem to match the lead male very well. Ferit was very likable and charming, however.
I really appreciated the references to the past, like the typewriter, décor, phonograph, etc. They added a flair and believability to Sami's character. The sweetest moments were not between the young couple but between the older couple.
Overall, the movie is quite enjoyable and lighthearted.
Ah Leyla Vah Kerem (2024)
Nice Couple, Crazy Family
Such a sweet couple, Kerem and Leyla are. When they go to meet her family, many ridiculous things happens.
This comedy has a few funny moments, but on the whole, it's a little slow. Yes, many things happen, but they are somewhat dim witted and lack luster.
The characters Kerem and Leyla's mother were quite believable. Kudos to them. Leyla seems a little unenergetic. I found this uncharacteristic for this actress (Asli Bekiroglu). She is usually a sunny, delightful actress. The other characters were exaggerated and silly. Yes, it's a comedy, but it just wasn't that funny. It was just okay. Lets just say it didn't make me laugh, but I did smile.
Cici Anne (2024)
Stepmother Surprisingly Sweet
This movie was a pleasant surprise. Although the ratings were not very high, I found it to be lighthearted, funny and sweet.
The father, Kemal Bey, was the definition of a loving father. He was kind and sensitive and an absolute sweetheart. His daughters and their nanny were busy working out their feelings regarding his interest in getting remarried. The actresses were very funny, and played their roles well.
It was so nice to see a movie that was inoffensive and family friendly.
The story line was funny and also explored a theme that had a serious side- moving on after a loss, and allowing your loved ones to move on as well.
I enjoyed the scenery, although limited to a few places. They were tranquil lovely simple places that I would love to live at.
Also, the background music was very sweet. I am partial to the clarinet tunes and found it quite pleasant.
Don't let the low ratings dissuade you. This movie is charming.

Picasso Would Be Pleased
This light hearted movie is good for a simple date night or even a family fun show.
I like that this looked like a legitimate neighborhood with characters who were not overly exaggerated- with the exception of the character Onder and his mother. They were somewhat ridiculous and superfluous. Otherwise, each actor gave a comedy appropriate performance.
The story line was both common and new. Pressure to get married after a very very long dating period is fairly unoriginal, but Rifat's inheritance gave the story a new twist.
Cinematography was limited, but functional.
Nothing too interesting for costuming, nor music- all fine but not noteworthy.
The best part of this movie is that it's relatively inoffensive, funny without being dirty, and a fun night's worth. I would recommend it.
Babam (2017)
Nothing Fishy about Love, Respect and Understanding
Babam shows the lessons learned along the way in dealing with a disabled son. Beautifully acted on all parts. Each character contributed a special role in the story. It is a good reminder to treat all people with respect, kindness and humanity. The autistic boy Arif is not the only character facing cruel actions of others, but also Faride, by her coworkers, Nulifer by her brother, and even the father was a difficult and impatient boss and generally not a nice guy in the beginning. The story shows how his heart opened up and that he became more understanding and gentle towards his son, and others as well.
This is a touching, heartwarming story.
Sahte Balayi (2023)
Fake Honeymoon, Real Laughs
This runaway bride runs away to hide from her father and fiance, enlisting the help of a taxi driver and finds herself embarking on a new adventure.
This comedy is appropriate for any age, with no obscenities, and simple innocent humor. The location was pretty. The actors did a great job and were endearing. The couple was sweet but perhaps lacked a little chemistry, as it seemed a little more like watching siblings than a romantic couple (not counting the few kisses, of course). However, this is a very minor and subjective detail. All in all, this movie is a great date night, or weekend show that will keep you smiling. Don't let this bride get away!
Damat Takimi (2017)
Shenanigans
Friends who never grew up do everything together. They are rowdy, raunchy, disgusting, immature, juvenile, shocking and gross.
But their friendship is so endearing and their brotherhood admirable. Together, they are strong, joyful, energetic, supportive, loving, and a team.
Although very silly, this movie had some sweet moments. Especially the scenes with Omer (Furkan Andic) and Sera (Pelin Akil) as they grew closer, and developed an actual relationship.
The scenario was nothing special, but fit the movie. The acting was good enough. It was somewhat funny but also crude.
This is a good vacation movie just for a few laughs.
Kocan Kadar Konus: Dirilis (2016)
Make Your Own Path
For Better: Once again, Efsun and Sinan try to find themselves amidst controlling family and opinionated friends' ideals. There were so many comical moments and lines. Some subtle humor (like the classic line "you'll understand when you are a mother") and clever dream sequences, interesting camera angles make it really fun to watch. The scenes in the country side were quite beautiful and enjoyable too. Efsun and Sinan were very sweet together. Their story is quite lovely.
For worse: I didn't love the racy innuendos made by Efsun's friend Mehmet- let alone the show poor Efsun endured. Those choices of the writer are questionable and distasteful.
Although I was so irritated with how manipulated Efsun was by the grandmothers, I can't help but admit that this really IS the real life for many (this hits really close to home!)
Over all, this was a very humorous movie, with clever funny dialogues and an endearing couple.
Kocan Kadar Konus (2015)
Simple Clever Comedy
Such a simple idea for a movie: feeling the clock ticking and pressure from family and friends to get married ASAP. Efsun tried to be someone she is not when she should have been exactly who she is.
This comedy was cleverly written, acted and filmed. The way they filmed to past scenes, Efsun's dreams, and her imaginary friend were imaginative and thoroughly fun to watch. I love that she is a very sensible, down to earth girl and I also loved the relationship she maintained with her father. Other family was intentionally cliche and hilarious. Even though it is meant to be ridiculous, there is a strand of truth. There really are many people who think that if a woman is single at the age of 30, she is destined to be unhappy, and that marriage is the answer to all one's problems. I like the way this movie handled that by showing that Efsun would be much happier if she dropped all the silly games and just stayed true to herself.
Now the ending- well that was a little weird, and it cries out for a continuation (which there is). I will be watching that tonight!
Sen ve Ben (2022)
Love Triangle Complications
Mujde is a fun but clumsy young lady with a heart open to love. She is caught between the affections of Kerem and Gokhan. Each actor was proficient, but the real winner here is whoever their dentist is...those smiles were radiant! Especially Gokhan!
The story is kind of predictable. But with a few twists and turns along the way to make it a little more interesting.
The scenario was pretty average. Nothing really to catch the eye. I would venture to say that this looked low budget, because of that. The costuming was equally hum drum. It didn't and nor detract from the storyline, but frankly, there is nothing to see here.
As for the movie on the whole, it was reasonably entertaining and cute. I would give it a thumbs up for a simple weekend RomCom.
Sonsuz Ask (2017)
Get Your Tissues Ready
Beautiful Scenes, Lovely characters, Touching storyline.
Fahriye Evcen and Murat Yildirim were perfectly cast for their roles. Fahriye is ablsolutely stunning, and in her role, seems so joyful and sweet. I love that she appreciated all the little blessings in life- the colors, the smells, the sounds...all enriching to life's adventures. Murat was tailor cut for his role, serious when need be, yet able to notice the beauty that Zeynep brought into his life.
Emotionally, this movie will take you for a ride. Be sure to have tissues nearby as you will definitely need them.
This was a very lovely, heart wrenching and well made movie.
Hanim Köylü (2016)
Secret Village not so Secret Any Longer
This is an innocent, family friendly series that was fun to watch.
What I didn't like: Most of the jokes were very corny. There were many incongruencies in the story line, and characters came and went without much explanation, the pace was often very slow. Waiting for the couple to develop a relationship seemed agonizingly slow, as most of their relationship just consisted of staring and smiling at each other, and the boy telling the girl that he thinks she is beautiful. It wasn't very deep or developed.
What I liked: The characters were mostly endearing. The main characters were quite attractive together, and the side character Koptagel was silly but funny. And props to the girl who could keep her eyes crossed for so long- I would not be able to for more than a few seconds! The scenery was beautiful (especially the waterfall). It will make you want to live a simple life in a small village. The story was very family friendly - nothing embarrassing. The story was just very sweet and simple and was short enough to that it was easy to watch the whole series without getting too bored. Yes, it was slow, but because it was only a total of 13 episodes, it was over and had a mostly satisfying conclusion. (There were some unanswered questions, but the main problems were solved).
This is a cute series that will put a smile on your face and a song in your heart.
Sonsuza Dek Nedime (2022)
More Better than Worse
I almost missed it! After seeing such a low rating, I ALMOST missed watching this cute RomCom. Don't make that mistake. It's worth your hour and a half if you want to have a pleasant movie with very few worries.
What I liked: Yusuf Cim and Asli Bekiroglu were very likeable and pleasant to watch together. The scenery of the country side was very pretty. And the story line was simple but fun. No stress here.
What I disliked: Not enough time for character development, but it's a short movie, so I understand. Some things were corny and predictable (like the boy catching the girl when she falls, followed by a long stare).
But the positives outweigh the negatives, and overall this is a fun Romance Comedy.
Eksi Elmalar (2016)
Apples are like Life
The metaphors used throughout the movie were striking and true. Some apples are sour- like life- can bring pleasure though also difficult. And some apples are sweet-but may get that way when "tamed" or grafted.
Cinematographically amazing, this showed the beauty of the country side, and the colorful clothing of a time long gone. It was just stunning to watch.
The storyline was interesting-both the historical accounts and the beautiful stories of love as well.
The acting was simple and clear. Not over acted nor silly. Sukru Ozyildiz was adorable, as usual, by the way.
I was pleasantly surprised at this lovely and moving production and would surely recommend.
Altin Kafes (2023)
Actually Caged-no joke
The writers truly did encage the audience. Perhaps you are thinking that it is a good thing to be captured by a provocative script and great looking actors. Although these things are true here, the actual cage is that the writer quits and leaves the audience in a cage of "WHAT HAPPENED?" Prematurely cancelled, this show was just completely disappointing.
The first four episodes were intriguing, puzzling and complex, with many story lines that need closure.
I am glad I watched it because it was very good at the start but frustrated too, that it had no ending whatsoever. Relationships left in the middle, crimes unsolved, sinister plotlines with no ending, this was a waste of a great potential.
Askin Tarifi (2021)
Sweet and Sour
You will find both sweet and fun moments along with sour episodes that make you cringe.
Sweet: The lead, Firat, it quite likeable and fun. The female lead, Naz is quite beautiful and lovely. The best friend was a cool character, as well as Naz's father. He was warm and sincere. This is a classic, sometimes very cliche Rom Com, but that's my favorite genre so I appreciate the sweet moments.
Sour: After a few episodes, it became long and drawn out, and it seems that the writers were just trying anything in their recipe box to make up a cake. I was upset that the plot went quite awry in the middle. Several characters were downright ridiculous and cartoonish. The side characters Gul and Atil were especially juvenile, but after a while, they seemed endearing and added comic relief. The villain must have done his job quite well, because he was very annoying. I do appreciate that the writers tried to draw more from his character, especially towards the end, to show a bit of depth.
Askin Tarafi was overall a fun show to watch, and if you are a fan of Rom Coms, you will enjoy the feast.
Bir Sevdadir (2024)
Love One Another
Not a traditional story, because the two main characters emotional connection was not what the plot revolved around. This story line posed such a moral dilemma for me until the end, where the resolution gave much more clarity. I was torn whether I should root for Yasil because her lies were deep and hurtful and seemed to be unforgivable. But at the same time, she was doing whatever she could to protect her children. At the end, I was satisfied with how this was resolved.
The side story of Menevse and Tufan also seemed impossible, but as before, the resolution was satisfactory.
I was impressed that under the whole story ran a theme to honor the lost brother by caring for needy people and standing up for what is right no matter the cost.
Overall, the story lines were interesting. But more than that, the actors performances shined. The unspoken hero here was clearly the father, Ishak Bicakci, who was very honorable and dryly humorous. He played the role to the hilt.
This series had interesting characters, but the real star was the message of doing what is right, whatever the cost.
Senden Önce (2024)
Disappointing
Wherever Alp Navrus is, there is potential, but unfortunately, this time the potential was not realized.
The plot was weird and uncomfortable, and quickly became quite complicated. Even though I was considering NOT watching anymore, it seems the show made that decision for me. I really like the actors and was hoping for more, but the script didn't do them justice. And in the end, we will never really know if the show could be redeemed because it ended all too soon. If you are considering watching, go ahead, as the commitment is only 3 shows. It's just a big let down by every measure. Too bad.
Kül Masali (2024)
Mystery and Beauty
Mysterious tale that spins and turns through various possibilities like a spiral staircase but you don't know which direction it will take you.
This was such a cinematographic masterpiece. It wove elements of patterns (the staircase, the violin handle), color (the contrast of white snow and elements of black and red), and textures (furnishing, wallpapers). Each and every scene was so cleverly and creatively painted. Just breathtaking.
The characters were well played- great acting by all members of the cast. They are each talented and convincing.
The storyline was intriguing, puzzling, and sometimes just creepy. The sprinkling of humor kept it fun and entertaining.
If there is one downside, I would say that there was a deficit of chemistry between the two lead characters. Yes, they are both gorgeous and individually extremely attractive. Their acting was very good, but there was a flavor missing. It just didn't come across as a believable passionate connection.
None the less, this is an amazing series, well worth watching. You will have to control yourself from biting your nails as the mystery unravels. It was an excellent series.
Sen Kiminle Dans Ediyorsun (2017)
Fun Silly Entertainment
I watched this initially for Demet Ozdemir, not knowing what to expect. It was entertaining and comical, but juvenile. It was fun to see Binnur Kaya in this silly role. She played her part hysterically. The other actors were adequate. The main male lead was endearing. And Demet was sweet and funny. The dark humor, using suicide as a joke was tricky to find comical, but somehow, she played it off well.
As for the dancing, it was ridiculous and amateur, but acceptable in this format, as it isn't necessary for the dancers to be truly talented artists. It's just a silly comedy that will entertain for a rainy weekend.
Deliha (2014)
Unexpected Hilarity
I really thought this was just going to be too dumb to withstand, but I was pleasantly surprised. Ok, it was really silly and ridiculous and goofy and exaggerated, but I have to say it was funny and cute too. And speaking of cute, WOW, that Baris Arduc is extremely cute! And I was really happy to see a few other familiar and beloved faces. I enjoyed the performances of Cihan Ercan and also Zeynep Camci. I love them from other projects and was so happy to see them again. Props to Gupsay Ozay. She portrayed her character to the hilt, and was completely ridiculous.
The only criticism I would have is that I am not a fan of dirty words, nor sexual connotations. That gross humor was not funny to me, but otherwise, I did enjoy this comedy.
Bambaska Biri (2023)
A Totally Original and Crazy Series
Crazy in every sense of the word, this series always had me on the edge of my seat. The storyline is quite unique and intriguing. But the real reason this show deserves all 10 stars is the acting- primarily of lead actor, Burak Deniz as Kenan/Dogan/Yusuf. I can't imagine how he kept it all straight, but he was thrilling, clever and creepy, yet endearing and charming. I have to defend Hande Ercel, also. I read a review that criticized her acting, but I have to disagree wholeheartedly. She passionately played her role. And what a beautiful woman also! I enjoyed the side roles of Murat and Yasemin. Murat was entertaining (though some parts of the character are really arrogant and annoying, he turned out to be kind of loveable). This was quite an intense show, from start to finish, and it will leave you scratching your head, thinking- wow! What did I just see!?
Kendi Düsen Aglamaz (2023)
Family Friendly Cute Story
Although cliche and predictable, this dizi is cute and innocent- a show that has some giggles and sighs as we cruise through the ups and downs of Serkan and Alize's love story as well as the zany families they are from.
Pros and Cons:
Cons- sometimes the story lines are replays of other dizis and quite predictable. It's a bit corny and exaggerated too, but that is part of the charm of a simple family story.
Pros- the biggest pro to me is that it is something you can feel completely comfortable watching with the whole family- from Grandma to toddler. It's very innocent and sweet.
I am satisfied with the conclusion and enjoyed the ride.
Maviye Sürgün (2023)
Blue Intrigue
From start to finish, this show was filled with intrigue. Each character was performed well. I was especially fond of the character Murat (adorable smile) and the little boy, Arda, who was quite charming. Of course, the father, Salih was very admirable and a refreshingly honest and upstanding character-no flaws at all.
There were some weird moments in the story and some unanswered bits, but overall, it was satisfying until the last moment.
All that said, I am glad it ended when it did because sometimes you can get too much of a good thing. If it went any longer, I would likely be very tired of it.
The set was quite picturesque. This island would be a great vacation spot. The family's hotel would be my choice to visit!
