I, Robot (2004)
Philosophical and Gripping
We follow a determined detective on a mission to uncover the death of a scientist at the leading company of robot producers. What seems to be a suicide ends up to be a plot against humanity. It is his task to uncover who is behind the plot and save all of humanity.
This movie dives into the question of what makes a human, what is right or wrong. This movie has great CGI for its time. A must-watch for everyone.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021)
Mediocre
To sum up this movie, I can say it wasn't imposing. The characters did not feel entirely fleshed out, and the plot is just the usual formula of a hero action-adventure movie. Unfortunately, it does not cover personal growth and overcoming obstacles. Furthermore, many plot conveniences push the story, rather than progressing and including the conveniences as something accidental.
This movie does not feature any known Marvel characters and does not make the audience invested in the newly introduced ones. Also, the film feels the need to make something epic happen on screen. After Avengers Endgame, the Marvel franchise needs to one-up themselves. Therefore the antagonists of the movie seem a bit artificial and do not deliver a convincing reason for doing what they do.
In conclusion, this movie is mediocre at best and does not deserve a watch.
Star Wars: Episode III - The Return of Darth Vader (2004)
A fantastic way to say goodbye
This movie is by far my favourite in the Star Wars franchise. However, this does not mean it is flawless.
Firstly, this movie captures the downfall of Anakin in a heartwrenching way. It resolves the buildup from the last two films and ties in with the fourth film. It has some of the best music, and Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen show their skill to get the emotions across. It finishes the story arc of Darth Vader in a way not many can do.
But with all the praise comes criticism. For example, this movie has some cringe dialogues. Sometimes, you can notice the actors have difficulties staying in character because of the dialogue.
Nonetheless, the scenery and the plot overpower the present flaws.
In my opinion, this movie is a must-watch for everyone invested in Star Wars. Despite the criticism the prequels have, this movie outdoes itself in delivering a beautiful finish to the era of George Lucas.
Training 'John Wick' (2017)
Is it worth the watch?
John Wick Chapter 2, another entry in the John Wick franchise. This movie offers some entertaining action; however, I think it is not enough to be watched. Keanu Reeves is honestly the only reason why I even watched this movie. Personally, this movie is just one to have in the background while doing something more important or exciting. By no means is this movie boring or bad; it just follows the same rooster as the previous movie and gets repetitive.
In conclusion, this movie is worth watching if action is the genre you are interested in; however, if you are not a fan of action or Reeves, this movie might not be the one for you.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
A desperate attempt to fix Star Wars
I was hopeful when I started watching TBOBF. It looked promising at first, but I started noticing cracks forming.
Firstly, Boba is not the main protagonist of his show. His sidekick is more capable than he is. That is just disappointing as I came to watch Boba do what he does best. And although I don't mind the plot of the movie and how it does not focus on him being a bounty hunter, what bothers me is the lack of respect they show has for him. Boba is an old, frail man who cannot perform the impressive tasks he once could, but I believe the show discredited him a lot. He cannot stand his ground against foes and relies on companions to do the work for him. After each fight, he looks as if he is on the verge of death and has to be rescued by his piers.
This development is disappointing. The side plot of Boba and the Tuskan Raiders is mediocre at best. It shows a side to the Raiders we have not seen before.
However, the jumps from today to the past disrupt the story's flow and make the viewer less connected. One is just not as involved in the plot if the plot constantly jumps from one place to the other.
In conclusion, I think this show is watchable. However, if you are a hardcore Star Wars fan, this show might disappoint.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
More than just a fanservice?
I believe this movie is excellent. It has many jokes, but it is not afraid to dive into philosophical topics. However, some scenes feel forced and, for me, miss the joke. In addition, some of them seem to be targeted at a younger audience.
The main plot feels a bit dragged out and did not progress as fast as I had wished. "Spiderman Far From Home" is undoubtedly a fan service as the movie includes the past versions of "Spiderman". That, however, is no problem. The synergy is entertaining, and the final solution they come up with is mind-boggling.
All in all, I recommend watching this movie if you are interested in superhero movies or are a dedicated fan of Marvel movies or the Spiderman franchise.
