Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
This season has to be forgotten
Amazingly bad season. We all waited for it, now we need to try and forget it. It will definitely be the only season of the show in which I don't find any of the episodes worth the rewatch. I don't know a single friend or acquaintance from the people around me that has watched the previous seasons and likes that season, all people are shocked by the entire lack of imagination, continuity and GoT realism in this season. A lot of questions needed answering in the show: who is the Lord of Light? Who is the Night King and he actually wanted? What Varys heard in the flames? Who are the faceless men really? And many more of those... I believe the great many people that watched this show until now deserve for the first time in history a remake of this season to be made.
The Flash: Out of Time (2015)
One of the best pieces of television ever
This is one of the greatest episodes I have ever seen... ever. It is truly mind-blowing how they manage to put so much in so little time (60 minutes). There are several major plot twists and in the end it all just "goes away" with a blink of an eye. All of the actors play their part really well, but it's the script that gets all of the points here. Be prepared to be blown away with something whose final minutes seem on par with masterpieces such as Game of Thrones' strongest episode "Rains of Castamere". It's an episode that puts a lot of pieces together, pieces from the grand puzzle which the season finale is going to be... I was wondering why this episode got such a big rating, now I know.
Game of Thrones: Mother's Mercy (2015)
Excellent basis for next season
Overall a great episode and a great way to cap off what has been a great season in my humble opinion (although many of you might not agree).
I see a couple of plots tying up already. I don't actually think that Brienne will kill Stannis. They are very similar in terms of being honest and true to their commitments (Stannis is committed to getting on the throne, while Brienne is committed to serving, well, whoever she is serving at the moment). I have a feeling that she might decide to help Stannis get on his feet after the utter demolition he suffered.
It is clear to me that Mellisandre's arrival at Winterfell was not a plot coincidence as well. After what happened to John Snow in the end of the episode, she will be needed there to resurrect him (we have seen already in the show that this is possible).
When it comes to Dhenaerys, there is a risk that the threat of her brother from one of the first episodes that "he might give her to all 40K dotraqs" might realize. It is not clear how she would handle being treated like this and how this might influence her future reign. (I do suspect that she will be freed by Jorah and Daario, but it might be a little to late for her own good)
Although I hate Cersei as a character, I did feel that the treatment she received was a bit over the top.
Whiplash (2014)
Great movie
This movie was a joy to watch (and is definitely worth rewatching).
In the end of it there are a lot of twists which is very good.
I was wondering whether to give it a 9 or 8 but ultimately feel that 8 is the right mark for it.
Both the main actor and the supporting actor make fantastic appearances. The supporting actor absolutely deserves his Oscar (I still haven't watched The theory of things, so I can not say the same with conviction about the leading actor).
The message of the movie is very powerful and I am very glad that titles like this get the recognition they deserve. I am also glad that other titles that don't deserve this recognition (albeit getting it by being nominated for an Oscar) (I am directly talking about American Sniper) are getting low grades in IMDb.
If you like movies about fighting, student/teacher relationships you are in for great time.
American Sniper (2014)
Didn't meet the expectations and the hype
This is one of those Lincoln and Hurt-locker-like cases when you just get huge shiny wrapper and no content.
I was bored by the movie, expected the character to go somewhere but that didn't happen... Very, very disappointing and fortunately didn't win an Oscar like Lincoln,Argo, The Hurt Locker and all the other average (at best productions). Nothing more to say. 2 hours lost.
Bradley Cooper is good at his role, but thats just about it - good, nothing more.
I am sorry that this review is so bitter but thats what you get when people talk so much about a movie and in the end it just doesn't deliver according to the hype.
The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
Rising above the impossible
This review will be quite short. Batman was one of the icons of my childhood and probably my favourite superhero.
When I first watched the first Nolan Batman movie "Batman begins", I was feeling like "That's how you do a Batman movie!". All the Batman titles before it looked pretty shallow comparing to it, this was the first one with actual story and the cast was chosen not simply to attract people to buy tickets but to help communicate this story to the audience. So, "Batman begins" was definitely something that totally blew me away... When "The Dark Knight" emerged it totally blew away the audience because of... well you all know why - the movie was a milestone in cinema (at least for me). I really didn't see how it could be possible to create a Batman movie that would be better than those two and it felt like we had already seen it all... I mean... what possibly could Nolan add to it to make it better? After watching "Dark Knight Rises" yesterday, though, I felt like I saw a movie that was in a WHOLE different league than the previous two - in my scale of coolness it was 3 times cooler than the other two. So, yes, Christopher Nolan rose above the impossible boundary that he set himself and created probably the best movie I have ever watched or at least one for the Top 3 (and I have watched many...). Just go and see it for yourself.... It is literally epic!
