Pan Am (2011)
Difficult to bare after a while.
I gobbled it over one weekend, I binged it.
Even being relaxed and in a good mood I could only enjoy till about half of the season. Around that time it reveal its true nature which is... a freaking fairy tale where every single thing is happy ending! Around that time it makes one nauseated.
My Dad's Christmas Date (2020)
Gee man!
Only got as far as the moment where the daughter gives the father the idea what she really thinks of him - there I can barely understand how the girl can be the daughter of the love of the man's life?! except for biologically of course - as if the girl came straight back from a NXIVM session. No, really!
The Zohar Secret (2016)
nice simple puzzle with madness
Hi people
I liked it because it has good acting in it.
Music, I liked and where it played from and how sometimes was violently and abruptly stopped. Themes and scores are nice, I like them.
Movie is funny.
Filming is good, scenography is not bad, decently taken care of.
It has funny moments.
Story is simple, obvious, story is sad, it's not(?) that funny..
Story is about how tormented any of us can feel at times. How great burden often rest on our shoulders, which we have to carry, only we so often cannot tell who put it there. Maybe we did ourselves(?).
Story is about how madness can be, is, a disease that each of us could very easily contract, or catch. And how when one is infected, impossible is to find a cure, or! even just to get some help.
The whole picture I found... light, bright... refreshing.
Listen, I picked up this film while browsing tens of movies in Amazon's Prime, just a click..
Look, I watched it while solving, playing with some computer machine problem.
I could have gone for any other movie... I'm glad I did not.
Do not take seriously morons who say something like "..budget was small for it was filmed in caves, houses, ..." yet you watch in this movie creators spending(wasting?) a small fortune on a battle scenes. (morons naturally are people disabled in one way or another, nothing wrong with them, waste of time are those who claim they have something to say but what they give is a gibberish). Even if a budget is small, it does not matter(not to a filmmaker nor a cinema fan) for even for a half of small-budget one can make a nice piece.
I liked it, not everyone will.
Miasto 44 (2014)
War drama is an extensively researched genre - is this one any good, somehow new? Yes!
I think the film is very very good. Although knowing the fact that Poles know cinema pretty well, historically have very good film makers, directors and writers, these days also great cinematographers like Idziak, Kaminski and others, I did not expect this Polish production to be so solid. I did not expect that since I heard this film had aspired to be on par with other big international productions in the genre. Take on "classics"? - I thought, so I lowered the bar before watching.
Is it bold for war drama filmmaker to try to mix different genres? When it comes to war as the subject I say yes. I don't think this cross-convention happens in the movie too often, once or twice for the music and a few times for visual layer. I think it's acceptable and worked out OK. Story line in my opinion does not count, even with its weirdest twits as a subject for genre classification, though some would claim otherwise.
Film stands its ground and defends high aspirations and does it firmly. This is very, very solid war drama which mixes interesting yet horrific, less known facts of Warsaw Uprising together with a group's and other random individuals' stories during these terrible times.
Before watching my hopes were put down a bit by some overheard, very critical (usually Poles' own) opinions about specific bits in this film and I think I understand why. I myself can confess there's one bit not to my liking, that's a bit when director allowed himself and/or others to accompany photography with music sorts that stick out from the rest and do not fit in, completely. Others will complain about the scene which I call - kiss to miss the bullets - and which I think many don't realise is phantasmagorical precisely for it's a pure fantasy with which creators try to indulge our imagination, such a fantastical digression. I love such brain teasers, brilliant! Others won't like other bits BUT!! this goes for every single film, doesn't it?
For those of you who value and love real, I mean real life drama (don't say "too much" if it's real, and war absolutely is real!!!), I say you get yourself a copy. And NOT a DVD, only Bluray for the film's really good cinematography, very good special, technical effects. One or two would hesitate for there is no Hanks no Damon, nor Gibson nor Nolte nor Penn but acting counts only and always when actors "can!" act, and they do in this film.
I like this piece of film making, I had been critical prior to watching, I still am but I like it, I've gotten me a copy. I wish you a good seance, but make sure you are ready for it, don't take it as some family happy dinner together, be ready for some brutal, gruesome real horror of war at your window.
