Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! (2022)
Never thought I would rate a SD movie so low
I love Scooby doo and especially the movies, which I have never missed. But what a bore this one was.
Firstly the artstyle was really bad and backwards from all the current movies. It is close to Guess who (I didn't like Scooby Doo and Guess Who as well.)
The first 15 minutes are barely tolerable. Once the Halloween prep starts, things get a little better but couldn't keep up for long.
Story could've been better but the artstyle is so dull that I just couldn't gather any interest in it.
The designs of the monsters were also very generic. Since What's New and Mystery Inc, I expected better designs.
I would recommend skipping this unless you too have to watch all the SD movies.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Probably the biggest waste of money ever
I am not saying this is the worst movie of the year. I am not saying this is the worst superhero movie. It is just a big waste of money and absolutely no reason to make a fourth movie about a loved character.
Taika waititi destroyed Thor Ragnarok with unnecessary bad humor and this time he decided to do it more. The plot is good enough but there are no stakes, it just goes on. The ending is the pretty weird(Why don't the writers ever read the comic books they are adapt?) People get stabbed, music changes to serious but they are fine seconds later. The love story is blander than the first two thor films. The action shots are boring and focus too much on closeups.
The worst part is the pacing. It is 2 hours long but just feels rushed at points. If they remove all the babble and jokes, and focus on the plot, it might have turned out great.
Forever My Girl (2018)
Bad music, worse acting
I watched this only because Jessica Rothe was in it(who became my favourite after Happy death day series). If not for her, it looked bad from the trailer and the synopsis.
This movie could have worked if it dealt with the pros and the cons of the weird situation. The guy is incredibly stupid and basically a-hole, but somehow people see the good in him and only good. Also, maybe bad acting from Alex Roe because he gave the one dumbstruck expression the whole movie.
There is a lot of country music in the movie, which can be good, but here it was horrible. I had to skip forward whenever someone "tried" to sing.
It is described as romcom but it is more of romdrama since there is no comedy. The plot is absurd mostly because 8 years is a very long time for a lot of things to happen. But again everything goes very well for the guy and easy happy ending.
I would not recommend this movie to anyone, even fans of Jessica Rothe.
X (2022)
What a waste of a movie!
There are so many things they could have done to take this premise and make it good. But, it is a bad horror movie which is A24 trademark by now.
You see the bodies in the first few minutes and then you meet the characters one day before.
Starting with the killers, there is no twist. The moment you see the creepy couple, you know what is going to happen and it happens. If someone else turned to have done it, that would have instantly made the movie much better.
I hoped with cast that Jenna Ortega would be the final girl given her history but it was actually saved for the worst played character in the movie. Mia Goth was either doing some very bad acting or she didn't want to be in the movie at all.
She also played Pearl but like why. She was not able to do one role properly and they gave her two. It wasn't a big reveal or related to the plot in anyway. They were hoping for awards, I guess.
Also, what's with that single crocodile in that huge lake that comes to feed only when plot requires?
Ambulance (2022)
2 hrs of the same old stuff
There is a lot wrong with this movie.
The heist was over within the first 30 mins which was good because we have seen it in a thousand movies.
But from there on what a mess. It was the same old Michael Bay blasts, bullets and bad jokes repeating in cycles.
There were some cheesy stupid moments and Jake Gyllenhaal did his most of them. The two leads didn't act much like brothers( I understand it was not the average family).
The other cops and agents were just no name actors who were too bland to make any impact on the plot.
Just skip this. It plays exactly as you think. Nothing new.
The Contractor (2022)
Generic Hollywood Action movie
How many more of these movies will they keep making? They just replace the actors and change the name.
In the first 20 minutes, the scenes are so cliche that I felt this must be a parody. Things were a little too on the nose.
As the movie proceeded, I was predicting everything.
One major weirdness that I noticed, when the mission went wrong and Ben Foster is AWOL, Chris Pine calls back home for information and extraction. There is no hint of any doublecrossing but Pine realizes something is wrong and starts abusing his leader, very immediately. He was right but how did he know?
The Bubble (2022)
So so bad
I was really excited to see this movie with such a great ensemble cast, but it was probably the worst movie yet of 2022(mostly due to the cast). If a movie has comedy as its genre, I want it to make me laugh more than once. But there was not a single scene like that in the Bubble.
This movie is mocking Jurassic Park movies directly but I felt it was more like Tremors. David Duchovny, like his character, didn't want to be there. The others were so badly written. I was enjoying Leslie Mann a little but she was written out.
Some scenes were so cringe that I had to speed through(which is why I love digital medium).
The only real acting in the movie was done by James McAvoy for his 1 minute cameo.
I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
The Adam Project (2022)
Nothing new but well done
I liked the movie. It was fast paced as they get to the point within the first 10 minutes. It didn't have too many sappy drama scene which seep into this kind of movies. The banter between the two leads and later with Mark Ruffalo was quite good(which I hate in most Ryan Reynolds movies recently).
The plot isn't new but there are some cool scenes that separate this one.
Biggest drawback-Bad CGI and VFX
Deaging Catherine Turner digitally was the worst. The whole room where the final act takes place has Spy Kids era feel. I can see why all this happened. You have four A-List stars who take the budget and about a year to add the effects. It could be worse.
The Batman (2022)
Too long and bland
Cons-
My biggest problem with the movie is the horrible miscast for every major character. Especially, Alfred (who is barely in the movie) feels lost and Falcone doesn't feel intimidating.
The movie could be edited to remove atleast 40-50 minutes and nothing would change. Some scenes were stretched for too long and some just had boring dialogues that kept on repeating.
The plot isn't very great or new. There are many movies out there like this, this one just has a costumed guy. The payoff at the end wasn't worth the 2.5 hour buildup
They wanted to keep things in real world but sometimes they don't follow it. Two people take close range blasts and survive. Batman walking close to cops and getting photographed (his biggest thing is his secret identity), like who wouldn't recognise him.
Also on other note, it is also not a movie made for theatres, too many flashing lights and rest is pitch black.
I Want You Back (2022)
A change from the boring romcoms
I loved the chemistry between the lead stars, although they weren't romantically linked until the last half hour (we all knew it was gonna happen).
It shows reality and is very much grounded than most other romcoms these days, so I liked it. It had some old cliche moments too but the new ones are far more.
Home Team (2022)
Not a kids movie, not a sports movie
This movie was advertised as a kids sports movie but it is neither. It is just a boring "real" story with cliche moments.
The games are extremely lackluster and a mess. The child actors do well but the grown ups are really bad at playing their part.
Marry Me (2022)
Jennifer Lopez's character is Cringe
The whole movie is bad and dumb. The whole concept is off as if the writers didn't think of finding any logic because it is a romcom.
There is a movie with a similar idea called Wedding Daze which looks like a masterpiece compared to Marry Me.
Jennifer Lopez has always been a bad actress but her character is the worst. Everything she does in the movie is cringe. If you already don't hate superstars, this movie will make you.
I am only giving it two stars because Owen Wilson and Sarah Silverman gave it some credibility.
The Tender Bar (2021)
This movie made me feel happy
This is a feel good movie. The story is good but the theme and environment is just great. I was watching it only for Ben Affleck who is the best in the movie, but it went beyond expectations.
I hadn't felt this happy vibe watching any movie in a long time.
Stardust (2007)
It has everything
I have some sweet nostalgia attached to the movie so it may be biased but I just love the movie. It has everything- fantasy, comedy, romance, drama.
And I have never been a fan of medieval fantasy movies but this one struck a cord. All characters are played wonderfully but Robert DeNiro and Michelle Pfiffer are my favourites. Charlie cox is awesome as always and the lovely Claire Danes is literally shining in this role.
Devil (2010)
A perfect movie
This is how a perfect movie is made.
A short runtime, gripping suspense, well defined characters and a great message.
Going in, I had no idea if it was a thriller or horror, so the payoff was even better.
When I first watched the movie, I had never seen of the actors before; I didn't even know that M. Night Shyamalan was attached. It all ended up improving the experience.
I suggest every one I meet to watch this one movie. They always love it.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Fan service with very little common sense
I loved this movie because it brought back many characters from the past but it could have been written better. This feels like a last minute fanmade movie. The multiverse plot depends on the villains and other characters knowing that Peter Parker is Spider-Man but Electro and Venom in the movie did not even know that Peter Parker is Spider-Man. Then it says that all of them died fighting Spider-Man where as three of them did not even die in their movies. There are other plot holes like taking the powers from the characters and sending them back would change their original timelines.
But the worst part was making people forget that Peter is Spider-Man also made them forget Peter entirely. How does that work?
It is still a beautiful movie with great performances from Alfred Moline, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Willem Dafoe just stole the scenes whenever he is on.
Rating it 5/10 feels balanced.
