What on earth did I just watch?
This movie aims low and underdeliver..
First I thought the plot was that he accidentaly travelled in time and stranded on Earth 65 mill years ago. (Could be interesting) But no. They will have us think that humans existed 65 mill years ago on other planets.. Obviously humans have not existed that long. Humans have existed for only 2-400.000 years and for most part as cave men. So how does that connect with human space pilotes 65million years earlier? This does not fly, even in a sci fi movie.
Anyway. My nerdiness and this stupid plot hole aside. The movie carries on, one dimensional, cliche by cliche, nothing surprising or lightly exciting ever happens. It's just one boring march from one place to the other. (to find a fully functioning escape pod while everything else is smashed. Very little dino action (tha'ts fine) but very little else going on either..
Pointless. The lack of fantasy in this movie is shocking and disappointing. I can appreciate a cheezy sci fi (I often do) but this was just utterly pointless and boring. I even fast forwarded past a couple clearly too long segments just to be done with it.
That's Amor (2022)
Feelgood - but surprisingly flat
I must admit: Sometimes I kind of like to watch some of those romantic movies where you know from the beginning how it all will play out, but you you pretend not to, just to enjoy a feelgood movie to pass some time.
But this one.. Even how hard I tried to like it - much to the account of the main character, played by Riley Dandy - I just could not fully enjoy a movie this flat and this poorly directed.
Riley Dandy comes out of this well, and maybe she is trying to prove her self as a main charcter actor. In my opinion, she pulls it off to the extent of what this type of movie demands.
The supporting actors in this movie are a different story. I am not sure if their crinchy fake acting is supposed to be funny somehow, but it isn't!! It's stupid, exaggerated and shallow. None of these actors should be allowed on a movie set ever again.
Dandy's counterpart lands somewhere in between. He's not that bad, really. The most apparent flaw is that he doesn't really come off as believable spanish. Other than that, he's ok.
I think it is about time that American directors realize that they have a global audience, and if they try to involve other nationalities in the story, they need to use actors from that place and also do their homework on it and make it authentic. Otherwise it just gets embarassing.
The story is ok. Could be better with more drama, a conflict or some kind of tension. But it never gets to that, the director seems to be too afraid to "kill the mood" so whatever builds up as some kind of drama gets quickly put down, and we're back to the feelgood baseline.
So there we are. A flat, one-dimensional feelgood story, carried solely on Riley Dandys shoulders, surrounded by a bunch of amateurs who contributes only by a series of face palms...
The story has potential. In fact, it made me want to go eat tapas... But I wish they had done a better job with this. Believe it or not - I am being nice here.. other critics might slaughter this movie without further comments.
Nova Vita (2021)
Bingeworthy, but all in all unfulfilled potential
This show would, in my opinion, do much better if they kept it a bit closer to realism. The plot could have been really great, and even a classic. But then they would have to invest the time and effort to really think it through and tighten it up. They make quite a few assuptions made that really underestimate the intelligence of the viewers, and it becomes a bit to "simple". For example, the whole memory loss plot could open op for a lot of internal struggles, emotions and whatnot, but ends up being numb and self repeating as the character just stumbles around with a permanent dumbfoud expression.
In my opinion, these are examples of improvements that would have massivel improved this show:
1) The writers should stop using asspumtions about technology (and surgery) that are simply too unrealistic. Ex: Check plots with real subject matter experts. No, you can't totally replace an entire face and have all facial muscle and mimics work perfectly. No, you can't simply use a some widget to video- and audio-bug literally anything anywhere.
2) The writers should stop using old cliches such as FBI agents being total morons (except one) and FBI bosses being stupid a-holes who refuse to believe even the most obvious discoveries. Tip: Work with investigators to shape more realistic characters.
3) Resist the temptation to play the "conspiracy-card", referring the entire plot up to a massive "super-organizatioin" with endless and invisible power and reach. At least if you go that way, make sure the conspiracy is interesting and believable, not just an excuse to make unrealistic plot-cheats. I think more viewers are getting bored of villains having the ability to wire-tap any device, anywhere with a single click, or hack in anywhere in 5 seconds, or GPS trace anyone, anywhere with a single click. It's to banale! Try to tell this story without the "super-organization conspiracy" on top, that seem to have technological super-powers to basically do whatever they want. Try to tell it with a "Nova Vita" company with more limited and realistic resources fighting their battle. They would have to make an effort to pull off all the cover-ups and manouvers. It's probably more difficult to write this, but it would make the story more balanced, interesting and exciting to watch.
The show has a certain ambience, which is played well by the female character and the main FBI agent (as well as certain other characters) but the male main character is unfortunately left to walk around looking confused all the time, even though he is supposed to be really intelligent. I think they casted the wrong guy for that role. Very little chemistry going on here.. The female main character , however, should have played a stronger part. It would give the show a better tension. She became a bit one-dimensional in the long run. Even so, she did, somehow, tie this story together.
Anyway. This critisizm aside. Believe it or not, there is a certain drive here in the storytelling that make you want to keep watching.
Bingeworthy if you are bored, but somewhat unfulfilled show. I still end up giving it a 7. It brings a plot that is a bit different than usual, it keeps up a pace from episode to episode and good photoshooting. I did enjoy it, after all, and would want to see season 2.

Should rather have been a TV movie
I can like a slow burning, suspense-building mystery. This show starts off good, leaving you wondering where this is going. But this fire gets cold soon..
Without spoiling too much, this mystery evolves around video tape restoration that peels off one clue after the other. This opens up for a lot of story and plots.
However, this story never goes deep into anything of anything and I never got invested in the plot or backstory. It all remains quite stiff, shallow and lightweight as a horror mystery goes.
You end up watching episode after episode with the main characters going in circles yelling "What the f-- is going on?!?" , even when the answer to that is obvious. It gets repetetive and boring. You find youself wondering the same.. or rather "Are we getting to the point soon?". I won't spoil anything, but the ending could go in so many exciting ways, but ended in a fizzle, with a "Lost"-inspired cliffhanger.
There is way too thin material here for an 8 episode series. They could rather have condensed it to an exciting movie.
Another season of this will probably be repetetive and pointless (like "Lost" eventually did) or not happen at all.
