The Escapist (2008)
Unfortunately I could not escape the dreadful movie
A exceptionally bad movie which wastes some really good actors in ill-conceived dross.
The Escapist is poorly written with an unconvincing plot that steals from every American prison break movie ever made.
Unfortunately stealing great scenes from other movies is great if you can make them coherent in your film.
A task that was quite beyond this director.
The ending is the biggest cop out ever, well since Bobby Ewing woke up in the shower after being killed off a year earlier.
Take my word, watch 'The Shawshank Redemption' for the millionth times, of Clint in 'Escape from Alcatraz.' Get the box set of 'Prison Break.'
Under no circumstance rent this rubbish.
Run Fatboy Run (2007)
Yawn fest
Extremely unfunny movie that utterly wastes the usually hilarious Hank Azaria (Huff, the Simpsons et al).
The main problem is Simon Pegg. He's well pegged out and will soon reach Ricky Gervaise levels of tedious one note shtick. It's not that the comedy isn't juvenile -- (I mean, American Pie was juvenile) it's just that's it not very funny.
Ealing this ain't. More like a blown up sitcom. The UK just can't make funny movies any more. Sorry, but it's true.
Go see Knocked Up again rather than waste your time on this tosh, as did all the cast.
Still, at least Hugh Grant wasn't it in -- the one redeeming feature.
The Lost Room (2006)
Twin Peaks meets Lost via The Sopranos.
A mad existential journey in search of God with a twisted Agatha Christie mystery and the occasional mob/s hit thrown in
One mob being a loony cult led by the always slightly unhinged (and scary) Harriet Sansom Harris.
Sci-fi for the wii-fi. I can't recommend The Lost Room enough. Peter Krause, late of Fisher & Sons, hangs it all together with his usual effortless performance as the gutsy everyman.
Oh, and the cinematographic level of imagery is fab too. It just looks great.
Hope it goes longer than a mini-series.
Numb3rs (2005)
Great 1st ep..
Numbers premiered on ITV 3 yesterday in the UK.
A terrific first episode...
SPOILER ALERT...
The explosive Act 1 with a HEAT-like shootout outside a bank was an immediate grabber and edge of the seat heart racer.
Definitely a new take on FBI work with a first rate cast, including the great Judd Hirsch. The main lead was bugging me throughout, as I knew him but couldn't for the life of me remember till I checked here.
Northern Exposure guy!!
I'll be watching the series based on this opening and this talent.
