The Mole (2022)
Either scripted with actors or heavily edited to fit the narrative
Are older people not allowed to participate? Or is it just easier to cast younger people because most unknown actors tend to be young? It just felt like a very scripted show. All the challenges, if they are completed, always end on the last second, which I think is very convenient. There's absolutely no way to know what all the questions were and how each of them have answered and scored. So it's very convenient for the show runners to send home whoever that fit their narrative. Occasionally the cast says they are going to act suspicious, for no apparent reason, again - is very convenient for the narrative the way they want. And also, what's the incentive for mole to do all the things they do? Do they win anything if they don't get caught? Then, wouldn't it be in their best interest to have more money in the pot? I am not sure if I missed that point. This show just felt like designed to have screen time from the viewers, because once you are in it, you will most likely watch the whole thing, but it's not designed to actually entertain the viewers. It's just so frustrating throughout the season to see how heavily the editing is trying to manipulate the viewer. I am not wasting my time on another season. Two stars only for the production values.
Bates Motel (2013)
Excellent performances, but should come with trigger warning
Please consider this as a trigger warning and be advised that your loved ones with certain mental illness may have trouble with this show.
Please Like Me (2013)
Trigger warning
Depression is no easy matter. This show deals with that really well. But the last episode is just too depressing. Please be careful showing the last episode who is vulnerable and sensitive to such situations.
Flowers (2016)
Beautifully shot and excellent acting. But disturbingly haunting
My husband and I started watching this and thought it was weird and has dark humor. But we thought it was still watchable. That was the first season. But the second season got extremely disturbing and triggered anxiety and past episodes for my husband. We are never watching this again. It should come with trigger warning. I am very sad we watched this show.
Summer in My Veins (1999)
Realistic and interesting but raises some questions
I would have seen some 10 - 15 gay movies, most of them short movies, but none of them shown "coming out" episode in a gay man's life so much in depth. It looks very realistic because it was shot with some handy-cam or digital camera and dialogs were spoken spontaneously. Looks like the person who played the main character of the movie had shot many of the scenes by himself. But I really want to know whether this is a real incident. No one would have thought of shooting their own coming out incident on a camera. For a person, who is going through that mental trauma before coming out, it cannot even strike that he will shoot the scene. So I am thinking that this is not real. But somewhere you doubt whether it is real. You can feel it when the mother is giving her opinion to her son after he came out. Either it is a very convincing performance or a very convincing direction/idea of presentation. As a whole, it is very different and considering the fact that people from India are still not OK with gay thing, this is a must watch for parents and many gay people who want to come out.
