American Horror Stories (2021)
Silly Horror At Its Finest
I grew up watching things like Tales From the Darkside, Freddy's Nightmares, and Masters of Horror; so while I get why some people don't care for this show compared to American Horror Stories, and they are for sure doing some comparing there, if you were interested in those shows, this is the one for you. They aren't elite writing, probably never going to win an Emmy, but they are fun, and they have enough scares to be worth the watch. Some of the people on this thread seem to be upset about the fact that they are not high brow horror, but does everything need to be these days? Can we not just have fun, silly, camp horror and love it for what it is?
Last Action Hero (1993)
This is my favorite Schwarzenegger film
I saw this movie when it came out, and I have always been baffled by people not liking it. Arnold's willingness to make fun of action movie tropes seems to have gone over some people's heads but it is fun to watch. Genuinely fun to watch.
Scream (2022)
Disappointing
One of my friends described this movie like watching a Stab film when you expected to watch a Scream film. That sums it up. There are ridiculous premises, math that doesn't add up, and at times it almost feels like the movie is calling itself out for being bad... Most of the new cast members are... not great actors and none of them have the same sort of friendly dialogue that the previous films "teen" cast had. I was actually laughing out loud during scenes that were meant to be scary/intense because the writing/feel was so bad. I really enjoyed Ready or Not so this disappointed on many levels, both as an homage to the Original Scream, and as a follow up to the directors' previous horror film.
2nd Chance for Christmas (2019)
Not as disappointed as I thought I would be with this
I've been watching a different Christmas movie every day since December 1st, it's been a lot, I've been trying to watch things I haven't seen before. And while I have seen plenty of A Christmas Carol adaptations, as far as they go... this one is not bad. I recognized a lot of the actors, the song the lead character sings but seems to hate isn't bad, and honestly... it has decent enough acting for a Christmas movie (my expectations aren't high there and I don't know why anyone's would be). All and all, totally watchable.
A House on the Bayou (2021)
Fun to watch even if it was odd
I love a good/bad horror movie and this was that. I had some moments where I genuinely wondered WTF was going on, but all and all, I had fun watching it and I'd absolutely watch a sequel. Was it great? No. Were there some really odd moments? Absolutely. But it was absolutely worth the watch on whatever channel I randomly DVRed it from.
Queenpins (2021)
Fun enough
This movie was just fun to watch. It wasn't too deep, just silly. I think people expected more from it but it doesn't feel like that was ever promised. Worth a watch.
Christmas at the Chateau (2019)
Had to stop watching because Christmas shouldn't be about punishing yourself
I have been watching at least one Christmas movie a day every single day for the month of December. I wanted to watch something new, not just the classic standbys, and I thought that surely if I recorded something off of a Showtime channel that it would be better than something I might watch on Hallmark or Lifetime... and I was incorrect. People in these comments have asked if this is meant to be a parody, and if that was what they were going for they missed the mark completely. If you want to watch a parody of a cable channel Christmas movie A Clusterfunke Christmas on Comedy Central would be the way to go, and have it actually be funny and not just absolutely torturous to watch. I had to tap out after the lighting changed so noticeably in two different angles of the same shot in the library that I just... gave up. Bad acting, horrible writing, feels like a community theater production from a small town who just heard about movies last week.
Black Christmas (2019)
Exhausting to watch
I gave it two stars, because the women in this movie did really great jobs with what they were given. However, this it the second time in recent memory that a movie that made me feel stronger as a woman and helped me see both the upsides and downsides to female friendships had a sequel/reboot/reimagining that was so bad I wondered if the people who wrote/directed/produced the film had seen the same movie that made me a better person (the other being The Craft: Legacy). It feels like it wanted to be political so bad that it had to actually demonize all men, even the guy who has no reason to be demonized gets turned! What??? Missed the mark. Not really a great feminist message. The song was cute! But that entire subplot was horribly mishandled, the whole movie was horribly mishandled.
Ocean's Eleven (2001)
This movie is BONKERS
But in a totally great way. There's absolutely a suspension of disbelief you have to have while you watch it, but overall, not a bad ride. I don't care for most of the actors in this movie at all and still managed to not hate it so that should say something about how enjoyable it is to watch.
