Invincible: I Thought You Were Stronger (2024)
It is good, but it made the whole season feel like a filler
I get the feeling they tried to do a lot of build up, not only with the season, but especially this episode.
I am still quite torn between a bit underwhelmed of the impact, yet satisfied with what they included andhowit was executed.
There are times it maybe got a bit too meta, but it never got to the pointwhere it felt like exeggarated fanservice or something.
All this let me hope that season 3 will pickup more steam right from the beginning, after giving a resolution to a lot of side character stories this season.
IMO it was really a pity how they handled the release with a mid season break.
Invincible: I'm Not Going Anywhere (2024)
Would have been a higher rating if there wasn't so much Amber
Tl;dr: Episode was really good, but too bloated with Amber drama
You know, I have no trouble with showing how tough a superhero / normal person relationship can be, but for that I really would need to care in the first place.
Maybe I still carry much animosity for Amber from season 1 ( she got better in season 2), but seriously, Mark acted the whole time like she is the massiah or something. Where is all this "Amber support" he talks about the whole time? All I see is her doing less than Eve on the schoolbuilding after the first Flaxan invasion / Mark's first fight, and the "support" consisting of not getting mad at him anymore, even though she knew the whole time he was invincible.
William I like though, his Arc with Rick is understandable and I like how they showed more of Donald and that he isn't just a random goon, but tries to make the world a little bit better, even as a "normal" person.
TBH I already more or less forgot the megamind guy, I just hope he is there to train Mark with the goal of freeing all those other realities, if he is just there to pick a fight with an apparently rare good invincible, it would be strange.
The Sandman (2022)
One of the most enjoyable series I have watched
I really liked it and am glad that that the premise is dealt with in a reasonable number of episodes without dragging it out too long. The Story itself is great, but I especially enjoyed episode six even though it isn't that important for the main plot.
The finale was great, but for me the season peaked right in the middle.
As someone who hasn't read the comics I just hope they would keep the structure they have now for the next season and show more of this interesting universe and maybe when the next seasons are released they as a whole will achieve a 10/10 for me.
Also if I find the comics somewhere for a good price I will definetly get them.
The Sandman: The Sound of Her Wings (2022)
love this episode
The first half was great, no question, but it isn't something you haven't seen.
What really had me invested was the second half (so much so that at one point I thought it was its own episode when I wondered why I didn't see something from it on the thumbnail).
It was brilliantly executed and the ending together with the music really got me.
Lightyear (2022)
Wanted to at least give it a 5 so it is average but couldn't
I love Toy Story and also the Buzz Lightyear cartoon, but I don't love this, I don't even like it.
As movie I guess you could say it is ok, and I really enjoyed the first 15 or 20 minutes, but that was it. Nearly 3/4 of it was lame and to not make the stuff I write too long, I will just point out what made this movie bad for me:
- The jokes: They aren't jokes, Buzz has one running "gag" going on and after two times it already got on my neves and I kne that when it comes to the climax the thing he jokes about will save the day.
- The Team: It was a disaster, one character of them alone made the film much worse for me, because he so dumb. Two out of three were basically made to be the comic relief, but for me ended up being the comic.
The second protagonist also wasn't really likeable.
- The plot with Zurg was dumb, probably done because otherwise the movie needed to be longer, I appreciate the reference to Toy Story 2 though.
-Biggest let down for me was Buzz constantly thinking about what he has done wrong in the past and he had to be got back on his feet a dozen of times.
There were unironically only two times a joke worked for me, and they both were because of the cat.
Ku bei (2021)
I love it for what it is
For me the Movie was fun, they took Zombies and gave them their own twist. I especially liked a scene quite early where we see that the protagonists don't have plot armor and the setting in Taipei (which already is a nice change of scenery for me).
The stuff that happened wasn't as grotesque as many wanted me to believe and I guess if I had no prior knowledge on the degree of violence I would have enjoyed it more.
Only thing I found negative was that around the middle everything felt a bit fast forwarded and there was not enough time to see the real extent of the virus. Another 30 minutes would have been enough.
I would recommend it.
Super Crooks (2021)
Could have been much better
I really liked the first episode, at this point, I thought we would follow this young boy how he get more and more criminal as he found out, that being a villain is much more profitable etc. Something like Invincible, but other direction
What I got was this one episode, suddenly after that he is an adult whose most remarkable feature isn't his powers, but spouting dumb stuff and doing this whistle everytime something seems cool. He does dumb stuff all the time and behaves like an asshat, even to his girlfriend he "loves so much, and he will change", and not just once! This Protagonist made me really mad at this point a bit after half the season was over. That was where I watched because I hoped it would get better, but the ending could be seen from miles away (even though I am nearsighted).
Wanted to give it 6 Stars, but while writing I had to go down to 5.
