Max Steel (2016)
People are clearly confused
Was it great, nah but it was a fun ride and it WAS NOT A REMAKE OF THE CRAPPY SHAQ FILM. Max Steel was a kids series a few years back now being brought to the big screen: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2748608/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2 Shaq's film was based on John Henry Irons AKA Steel from DC Comics that came to prominence when the Death Of Superman run was in full swing: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120207/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 The reviews that I've read for the "racist remake!" or the "Whitewashed retelling of a Black man's story!" are baseless and ridiculous.
Was the film Oscar worthy...Hell no it was for kids, tweens and ol Max fanboys that liked the cartoon...Cool CGI & fun.
And to qualify, I am Black. I am 100% dedicated to what's good for Black people and I am 100% for the truth and honesty for all of us...Peace & love all!!!
Tekken: A Man Called X (2014)
No. Just, no.
As a player of the game Tekken from the introduction of the very first game I was excited as all get out when I saw the first Tekken movie which was animated. After feeling like my hard earned money was wasted I still had faith in the people who would make a great Tekken movie. I believed that SOMEONE would do this game the honor it deserves and produce a great film adaptation. I saw Gary Daniels connected to the film and having loved his work for years as a big screen martial artist I had reasonably high hopes for this film to at least be bearable. This movie was not. I applaud the success of those who were able to bring their vision to life, but this was really really bad.
Wrath of the Titans (2012)
Sci Fi Channel is missing a movie.
I tried to enjoy this for the mindless action quotient & I still found myself disappointed. The film had great CGI creations, but on a whole the CGI alone couldn't save this film from being a turkey. Bad acting, bad plot and poor performances from a cast that could have been stellar. I've seen virtually all of the actors in other features where they far outshine the performances that were given in this film. In my opinion I'd say that you should wait for Netflix...this is another in the long line of over hyped huge budgeted cash grabs that Hollywood has become known for lately. Things are certainly disheartening when the executives that green light these films keep their jobs & the art of great film gets shoved aside for profit.
Skyline (2010)
Great effects & Weak story = Netflix
six friends and I embarked on our outing to see the much anticipated Skyline at 1 a.m. and we were laughing as we left at 2:30. Skyline was a visual treat offering some great action sequences and a stunning view of the L. A. sky line and landscape. The story was just OK though. There were definitely high points in the film as well as ponderously low points peppered generously through this film as well.I do like the break away from the conventional formula that has taken over most Hollywood films as of late. All in all I would say Skyline was not horrible, but didn't meet expectations based upon the marketing campaign that is in full swing. This is one I would wait for on Netflix or pick up from the RedBox if I could reclaim my hour and a half I spent at the theater.
Why Did I Get Married Too? (2010)
Be Real...I did
I am by no means a fan of Mr. Perry's work, I feel as though they movies are a simple formulaic ploy to pull cash out of the pockets of Black people. You say Jesus, roll your neck, cry a lot & then have a light skinned man save the day and there you go. This film provided all of that as usual, but was far better than the very low ratings would warrant or suggest. I believe in keeping it all real and the movie was good. Not great mind you, but good. I would like to see Perry open the door to some other struggling filmmakers and allow for greater creativity and choices, but I think he may be afraid of being shown up. Just my opinions here, but he really has got to do better or even better said we as Black people have to stop running behind anything with a Black face on the poster and make these filmmakers give us really really good movies to watch.
