Doctor Who: Space Babies (2024)
I wanted to like this new series - however...
Space Babies is the most painful thing that I've forced myself to watch in a very long time. Appalling intellectualy insulting pun based concept, insulating terrible exposition and cringe worthy acting from the entire cast not that the babies were acting at all. It's shocking that in 2024 something this terrible could be commissioned - also the creature effects remained me of classic Who and not in a good way.
There was a time when Russell T Davies could write a good script and screenplay, I really don't know what happened here, but I'll take a guess that he literally pulled it out of his nose.
It's a day later and I'm still angry about how bad it was.
Spider-Man (2002)
Oh yeah!
Nicely done, well paced, well acted and fun movie. Effects were ropey in places and the goblin is a power ranger, which was probably the most distracting thing in the whole film. Still, if this is the sort of movie we can now expect Marvel franchises to be turned in to, I'll be queuing up on opening night every time.
The final swing through the city is excellent. My hope is that all the CGI in the next movie excels it.
Blade II (2002)
Same faults as Alien 3?
I'll be brief, Blade 2 has no real characterisation, the fight sequences are ridiculous, and there was no feeling of the film ever being based in the real world. Characters die and you just don't care, because they were just 2 dimensional characatures, even Blade himself has no real personality in this movie! I laughed out loud at some of the terrible dialogue. I had the feeling I was watching a Troma movie with a budget. All this is a real shame, because the first film while comic booky was entertaining. My advice is - stay in and play a video game, you'll get the same depth of plot and may even feel more involved in the action!
