Ce Zici? (2021)
A simple story with a sting in its tale!
I've had to watch this short several times, pre screener for a film festival, judging and screening, I loved it.
Whilst we are trapped mostly in side a vehicle, it doesn't feel claustrophobic, at least not in a way that doesn't add to the story. The story starts to become bazaar then alarming and then there is the ending, a superb finish to a beautiful film.
The Score and Sound are excellent, adding to but not interrupting or leading too much, the laid back natural acting believable, Do you like all the characters maybe not initially, and your allegiances may change!
The Cinematography and subtle symbolism is beautiful, an extremely well rounded film that was nominated for several awards and was hands down the festival favourite of both Judges and our audience.
The Wall of Lyon (2019)
Stunning imagery should be a feature I want more!
So as an opener I have to say i love the concept and production design. Should I give it 10? Honestly? A full budget film made by seasoned pros no, and I'll get to that.
A short made by an exceptionally talented tenacious teen, yes absolutely.
What this young female has managed to create is fantastic in all senses of the word.
It's only flaws, is the story feels incomplete, not bad for a short, you should want more, but incomplete in that the story has a couple of holes and feels slightly confused. On investigation that's down to budget and time (we all know about that), sadly also victimisation, this is a valient and successful effort from a first time young filmmaker and pettyness and jealousy of adults who should no better has meant it's been under valued and incomplete.
That said if you like your fantasy thrillers absorbing and cerebral it's a winner, those holes allow you to become a joint story teller imagening what's happening in the rooms you don't see, filling in the gaps.
I was totally absorbed and transfixed. I felt tested and as if I had been on a journey, wanting to know more and slap a few mysoginistic fools! (In the story and in the real world). If you see it at a festival go see it it's fab.
