Huddersfield (2007)

Excellent movie

This movie has everything it needs - excellent story, great cast, good directing. The story is very real and thought-provoking - I know people, who act like the characters in the movie. The cast surprised me. I've never seen Nebojsa Glogovac playing so good. Vojin Cetkovic also has done a great job. Goran Susljik in the leading role is outstanding. Damjan Kecojevic and Suzana Lukic also play their parts well.

This movie made me cry, which happens very rare, so it's 10/10 from me. It reminded me a little bit of the books of Irvine Welsh. Although there are some funny moments, there is much obscene language, the movie is a drama, so don't expect something funny or light-hearted.

Promise Me This (2007)

It's more like a music video

This "movie" is more like a music video. Kusturica said in an interview from 2004 that when he is making movies, he feels like making music, and when he is making music, he feels like making movies. The best thing in "Promise me this" is the music, written by Stribor Kusturica.

Kusturica said in the same interview, that for him the dialogues in the movies are like noise. "Promise me this" has very little "noise".

I liked "Life is a miracle". It was also like music video for the first 30 minutes and at some points later, but it had a beautiful plot. "Promise me this" has no plot. I was awaiting this movie with big expectations, because I've read, that the script has been written by Ranko Bozic - one of my favourite scriptwriters, who participated also in "Life is a miracle". Ranko Bozic writes great dialogues, but for Kusturica they are "noise", and much to my regret, I saw only two dialogues, which I could identify as written by Ranko Bozic. The other part of the script was used by the director for making his chaotic music video for the music of his son Stribor.

Gordan Mihic (the man who wrote the scripts for "Time of the gypsies" and "Black cat white cat") said in an interview, that Kusturica never follows the script. "Black cat white cat" was the only script, for which Kusturica said, that he will not touch it. According to Gordan Mihic, after all Kusturica comes back to the script, and if he doesn't, he doesn't make a good movie. And I think this is the case with "Promise me this". He should have followed the script of Ranko Bozic.

"Promise me this" is billed as a "comedy", but there are very few moments, which made me laugh. The comedic moments are in the same style as "Black cat white cat", but are not that funny at all. I think the difference comes from the fact, that "Black cat white cat" was written by Gordan Mihic.

However, I know some people, who liked "Promise me this", they find it very positive movie.

It's not just a comedy

I just watched this movie and I'm very impressed. It's extremely funny, Radivoje Djukic is a genius. I've watched "Zlatna pracka", "Bog je umro uzalud" and "Sreca u torbi" from his other movies - they are masterpieces as well.

"Covek sa cetiri noge" is a comedy, but not just that. It deals with some very important issues - the deceitfulness of the members of a society, the lust for sex which is against the moral laws, the things a man can do for a better job or for becoming famous... And despite being created 25 years ago in a communistic country which doesn't exist today, the problems of the movie are problems of the present day. And I think they were problems of the present day thousands of years ago.

If this movie is ever released in your country - don't miss it!

Claused Freedom (2006)

Enjoyed this movie a lot

The story in this movie is centered around the war criminal counter admiral Gazivoda. People from the Hague tribunal and local authorities are trying to capture him, while local patriotic organization is helping him. Two guys, who run their own funeral agency are also involved in the story.

I see that this movie is rated relatively low and I read some negative critics. This might be because the story deals with recent controversial topics and has political aspects. I'm from Bulgaria and am not acquainted with Serbian politics to a great detail. But this movie was a great pleasure to watch. It had very funny moments, the actors were very good, the story was interesting and thought-provoking. The best thing for me was the acting of Milan Gutovic. I watched the series "Bela ladja" earlier, where he plays the extremely funny character of Srecko Sojic. Now I find it hard not to laugh whenever I see his face. And what I liked the most is that in "Uslovna sloboda" the character of Ozrec Cuk behaves very similar to Srecko Sojic from "Bela ladja".

The soundtrack includes a song from the band Riblja Corba - "Prezir" ("Contempt"), which I think is a synthesis of the main ideas of the movie. And if I got the message right, I agree with the authors of the movie.

War Live (2000)

Great movie, very original story, excellent cast

This is a very good movie, made during the final months of the Milosevic regime. It is critical to the regime, but also represents the feelings of normal people from Belgrade during the NATO bombings. People who don't know anything about the bombings could read something before watching. During this time the Serbs were (still) represented by the "free" media as ruthless savages. This film deals with these issues as well. The story is very original, the idea belonged to Dragan Bjelogrlic, and the script was written by Nikola Pejakovic. If you have watched "Lepa sela lepo gore" - Bjelogrlic there played Milan, and Pejakovic - Halil. In "Rat uzivo" you can see some of the best Serbian actors. 10 points from Bulgaria :)
