Fittest on Earth: The Story of the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games (2016)
Shallow, more like a movie-length commercial
Interesting and entertaining, but really shallow with a lot of missed opportunities. Resembles an overlong commercial for the Crossfit games, with absolutely no critique or alternative viewpoints. Just glorification of the stars, the games and Crossfit as a sport.
What could have been added:
- comparison to CrossFit's classic equivalents, like decathlon
- injury rates compared to other sports
- interviews of friends and family of the stars
- the hushed topic of steroids in Crossfit
- the "american dream" promise: "anybody can reach this with hard work", even though it's a real possibility only for a really small amount of people, regardless of discipline or work ethics
- the commercialism and the money machine behind CrossFit Games
Detention (2003)
2nd rate action movie
I just rented this movie to see Dolph Lundgren, whom I hadn't seen in any movies since Rocky IV. Unfortunately this movie was a big disappointment. The acting of all the parties was bad except for Mr. Lundgren, who was okay-ish. Kata Dobó was something nice to look at despite her ridiculous outfit and make-up.
The plot is not at all clever, it's something that's been repeated a million times in different movies. The crooks were utterly stereotypical, and Lundgren's character hadn't any depth in it. I didn't really expect a movie masterpiece, but unfortunately this is not even decent action. Every turn in the plot is extremely predictable and the unbelievable amount of over-the-top unrealism and comic-book like characters started to annoy me strongly pretty soon.
I would recommend this to young kids wanting some comic-like action, but only if nothing else is available.
1/10. (I guess the current average vote of 7.0 with 6 votes must have been influenced by somebody involved in making this movie)
Die Another Day (2002)
worst Bond movie ever
I was very disappointed in DAD. The movie has been trashed pretty thoroughly here already, but just to add the worst things:
The script is full of things which are utterly unrealistic, illogical and impossible. For example the starting scene, were Bond escapes alone from dozens of heavily armed men, unhurt and still with a perfect hair. Or why didn't he die of hypothermia in the water? There are countless other examples as well...
Haile Berry is the worst bond girl ever, trashy and non-classy. This film also had none of the nice, british, bond-esque atmosphere than the older ones, portraying a British gentleman, who is capable of handling every situation perfectly well and is known in the high society, surrounded by beautiful, _classy_ women and other fine things of life.
This movie is rather a B-class action movie with too much budget.
