Divorce Court (1999)
Judge Star: Chef's Kiss
This series is addictive, especially with the newest judge, Star Jones. Judge Star continues in the tradition of Judge Ephriam, Judge Toler, and Judge Jenkins, in bringing a no-nonsense approach to relationships that are in trouble.
As I mentioned, Judge Star does not pull punches. She manages to get the truth out of the litigants and for most cases the results speak for themselves. She also offers help to litigants who are either in need to leave abusive relationships or counseling to help the couple be their best not only for themselves but for the couple as well.
As of the date of this review, the show still has a virtual audience. Hopefully next season will have a live season. Regardless, Divorce Court is a series worth watching.
God's Not Dead (2014)
God Does Not Approve of This Film
Yikes. This film is portrays Christians as victims while they are prosecuting everyone else. Anyone who isn't Christian (and the right "kind" of Christian) is portrayed as the worst stereotypes and as pure evil, whose only purpose in life is to prosecute those "poor" pure Christians.
None of the characters are allowed to have any humanity or human growth at all.
Case in point: Professor Radisson. Radisson claims to be an atheist, when in reality, he is a broken believer who lost his faith over his mother's death. The film portrays him as if he is Satan's highest ranking minion. When he finally comes to peace with himself, he goes to give a well-needed apology to his girlfriend (who was one of his students). He gets hit by a car and is met by probably the two worst people on the planet: Dave and Jude. Do they ask how is he? Do they call 911? No, they preach the Bible to him and says it's his chance to get salvation. The professor confesses, and Dave and Jude rejoice over the now dead professor. Any decent human being, regardless of their faith or non-faith, would probably call for help if not call 911 themselves. No, instead we have two unnecessary characters "play doctor" so they could have their egos filled.
Speaking of big egos, Josh has a huge ego who cares more about being more holier than thou than anything else. He tricks his girlfriend, convincing her to give up her dreams and then dumps her when he decides debating is more important than his relationship. He uses the personal pain of the professor to "win the debate". Looks like compassion, love, and understanding don't exist in Josh's religion.
Thankfully in the real world, public universities wouldn't tolerate anyone who demanded that their students follow their faith or fail.
There's also hypocrisy. Take how the Christians cry about how everyone else (literally everyone else) pushes their beliefs on them when that's clearly not the case. At the end of the movie, we have the Duck Dynasty dude telling everyone to push Christianity on everyone else. These people love to play both the pusher and the victim at the same time.
Don't bother with this film. Not even good portion of Christians in real life agree with this drivel (read the comments and see for yourself ).
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills (2010)
Mean Girls On Repeat
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills might be better off being a soap opera than being reality TV.
The show is basically ran a gang of mean, vicious, moral-free women lead by the ringleader Kyle. Every single season since Season 9, Kyle and her clique of mean women (Teddi, Erika, Ms. Rinna, Brandi, Crystal, sometimes Dorit) plot and scheme to run off all the decent and moral women off the show. There is no scheme that won't be explored: using a return of a puppy to fire up a smear campaign to get a respected lady off the show and lying about an actress' alleged affairs. In season 10, Erika goes throw a divorce and her husband, a disgraced lawyer, is accused of stealing millions of dollars from his clients, who suffered greatly from plane crashes and injuries. Yet somehow, they attempt to make the two decent housewives, Garcelle and Sutton, the bad and evil guys through gaslighting, projecting, and playing professional victims.
It's been the same plot line for three seasons that the show has become boring and aggravating. This show needs a huge recast: keep Garcelle and Sutton and recast the rest. Please.
Richie Rich (2015)
Yikes! Not a Comedy but a Tragedy
This show is a complete abomination. Other than Richie Rich, the other characters are completely one-dimensional and stereotypical:
* Richie's jealous sister who most of the time is used only for a punchline
* Richie's accountant given the stereotypical dress (glasses, suspenders, etc.) and has no range of emotion other than "Hey look at me I do nerd stuff!"
* A teen girl who overspends and, most of time, is characterized only by her obsession with consumerism. Although she is allowed some character development.
But the most egregious character is the father: stupid does not begin to describe him. He has the maturity of a six month old, never got past the third grade, and is just there to be the big clown. Did all of the writers hate men or their parents?
The jokes are lame and don't even deserve the obvious and overused canned laugh track. Laugh tracks should just be banned from sitcoms.
I feel bad for all the young actors in this show, they deserved better than having deal with this drivel.
Avoid this show.
