Overboard (1987)
The first 15 minutes are hilarious, then....
This movies contains arguably the funniest 15 minutes in Goldie Hawn's career, as the overly demanding rich bitch trophy wife playing off Kurt Russell's work-a-day everyman. As soon as Goldie falls "overboard", the movie quickly sinks (pardon the obvious pun), devolving into obvious, overwrought humor and the standard "Everything in its right place" Hollywood ending. So if renting, stop the tape when the timer hits 15:00 and if watching on television, look for the commercial break right after she falls off the ship and turn to some non-offensive standard sitcom - which is what this movies ends up being when taken as a whole.
The Mind of the Married Man (2001)
Slight and offensive
I only watch this tripe because there is nothing else on and in my search for white noise to drown out life in general, this series is it. Just no good. The writing is so lackluster and "easy" (easy targets, slack) I'm surprised HBO is sticking with it. Maybe there is a shortage of good comedic half hours. Which would also explain "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and "Arliss". Blech!
