The Black Phone (2021)
A spectacular thriller, not a horror...
It is a great movie. The plot is good, the cast is excellent and also the cinematography is better. The acting is good too. Besides, they did an outstanding marketing of this film. I remember even Shane and Ryan talked about this in the Watcher and that's how I got to know this. But, telling this as a horror? Nah. It is much more of a mystery than horror because it isn't scary at all. So, if you are looking for a well-developed thriller than a horror film, this one is the go to.
The Batman (2022)
An amazing movie!
First up, the cinematography is on point, a great deal of suspense. Visuals is so good, Zoe Kravitz and Robert Pattinson's acting is just...*chef's kiss* insane and incredible chemistry, very tense. Almost a psychological thriller, because this is not just about The Batman, this is also about the boy inside, Bruce Wayne. It's long, and transgresses time to take you into a deep dive of what Bruce Wayne goes through. This batman is realistic, so much scarred and dark. So is Catwoman.
Faerie Tale Theatre: Beauty and the Beast (1984)
Loved it all the way along!
I would take this 1984 version than the new 2017 Beauty and the Beast adaptation. So much emotion put in, and the filming locations are really breath-taking. The lead Susan Sarandon (with wig or not she looks really lovely) acts good and Klaus Kinski does justice to the character of the beast. He portrays beast as a compassionate, yet a depressed character and a lonely person because of his appearance. Beauty is hesitant about agreeing to the beast about his proposal, but she gradually changes as the beast actually tries to please her desperately. Kinski actually made me feel a little scared, his acting is splendid. Almost nobody talks about this, but there's a special place in my brain for this adaptation, also because of the music scores (in which I very much adore, like the scene where beauty puts on the ring to go to see her father, beast weeps against beauty's bed- truly heartbreaking scene).
But, here's another touch of magic about this amazing adaptation. I adore its almost magical realism. It seems unreal, also one of the most realistic versions. Beast is not a cold hearted creature. His sorrow is what makes him human. Beauty has a lot more spirit and confidence and empathy is what makes her fall in love with the beast. And Jack, who is trying to marry her only for her looks and whom she turns down as she doesn't love him. Characters have a lot more spirit than adaptations these days.
I would recommend it, but the taste can be different to others, I agree on that. 9/10 from me.
A través de mi ventana (2022)
Same as After
Apparently, this movie has a weird premise. And, what I have noticed is that this book as well as the movie share a lot with After. Proof? Here it is.
1. Toxic bf (yes)
2. Fall-hard girl (yes)
3. Pretentious love monologue at the end of the film (yes)
4. Constant love making scenes (yes)
5. Jealous friend/bf (yes)
Oh yes, this is same as After. What do I say to After? Never today (or any day) This is the fault with Wattpad books. It recycles the same fangirl concept and produces a cliche story. Thus, a trash movie is produced (Not so trash like After)
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (2018)
Bravo! I loved every second of watching it.
Juliet Ashton is a best selling author, who is engaged to a rich American Soldier, Mark Reynolds. But, still there's something missing for her. Company of like minded people who share same grief from war like how she feels after losing her parents to the war. In the English channel island, Guernsay, she finds peace, love, companionship with The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel society. They all have a secret, and Juliet can't resist the attachment she feels towards the local, good-looking farmer Dawsey Adams and his daughter Kit.
Personally, I loved the pacing, Cinematography, Chemistry and acting. It was such a wholesome movie and I absolutely loved it. The building up of the story. I haven't seen such a beautiful film in a while. Michael Huisman and Lilly James, along with other actors nailed their roles. Will be in my favourite films for as long as I live.
After (2019)
What is this compared to TFIOS?
Such a trash! Puh-lease, if you want a fifty shades or another Twilight or something like fallen, take this. If you want something meaningful like the fault in our stars or Me before you, mind you, this is the most toxic movie version of it. 0 plot, 0 character development, goody-two-shoes meets bad-boy, typical cliche drama. No wonder why Styles was disappointed with trash.
