School of Lies (2023)
Idiotic, nonsensical, waste pf time
I can't believe it! It started out promising, a missing child, a school and an incident, these headlines should make for a great story! But oh boy how wrong I was. The director tried hard to portray an out of sync timeline, but failed miserably in it's execution. The build up around the mystery of the missing children and the reveal of what happened made me want to crawl my own eyes put. Whoever made this needs to be educated in filmmaking. The reveal totally fell flat, like a baloon with a tiny hole in it, losing air slowly. I am embarassed to have binge watched it. If you want to watch something GOOD go and watch Candy, the director should too.
HIT: The First Case (2022)
Hit the LAST Case
Honestly I had really HIGH hopes for it and went to watch it without watching the trailer, but if I had I would have saved my precious time!
The Critic:
The Good:
1. The Beginning was really captivating! It was really good especially the Song playing in the starting. It could have set the tone of tge film. I really liked the starting, where Priya went missing, it was new.
That's it really. I can't find anything else nice to say.
The Bad:
1. The Romance: It felt forced and uninteresting! They tried hard to make the audience connect, but it was just unorganic. The film delivered two songs within the 20 Min time frame. The actors had zero Chemistry, which is a shame as Rajkummar Rao is one of my fav. Actors.
2. The Songs: See above. No chemistry = failed romance = failed romantic songs
3. The main protagonist: I don't know what the Writer was thinking. I believe he wanted to create a layered, but broken police officer with a scarred past, but it failed to deliver. The protagonist wanted to be Talash's Amir Khan, but the writing did not make it possible. I felt frustrated by the main protagonists sudden outbursts of anger, his sudden flashbacks, his sudden realizations.
4. The supporting Cast: Didn't like ANY of the supporting casts story. The friends, the co workers, the parents of the missing girl, it all felt thrown together, literally.
5. The Storytelling: What was the main agenda? The story went from one suspect to the next without any PLAUSIBLE explanation. It felt like RAITA, jo sab taraf phel gaya ho.
6. The Climax: UGH. They tried to be WOKE by adding gay elements, but the main villains reveal was just dumb. It made NO sense, the whole build up, if you can call it that, made my head hurt in frustration. This Film wanted to be too much! But by adding too many elements made this film unvearbly long and boring.
I would rated it 3.5*, but too many people gave it 9* or 10*, so I have to give 1*.
I was WAITING for a Crime Thriller like Talaash or Mardaani 2 since many years, but until now, there hasn't been any film that can match up to these.
Boo, Bitch (2022)
Boo...what a **** show!
So where do I start? YES! I HAVE WATCHED ALL EPISODES. I absolutely don't understand how someone in their right mind would give this show more than 4 stars?!
I was avoiding this show on Netflix, but since I had nothing else to do I decided to click play, and oh boy do I regret it. It feels like the teenage drama tv show was trying to be something, which itself didn't know what exactly. I kinda feel insulted as this show ticks off all the wrong kind of boxes. Clichè and Cringy elements are the plot, literally. Loser trying to be Famous? Check. Loser girl has crush on famous boy? Check. Loser girl has a bestie? Check. Loser girl ditches bestie? Check. Prom? Check. The only unique thing about this show is the dead/almost dead girl, but again if the only aspect that tried to keep the show afloat, was a dead girl, well it wouldn't survive. Ugh. Lana Condor, sorry but this show will not live up to To All The Boys!
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
Why just why?
What is it with filmmakers and their unending desire for dumb follow up movies which have no plot or meaning or motivation at all? See for e.g. Halloween Kills (braincells).
Slasher films are certainly a thing of the past! What people want is a story that enwraps the audience and characters who are likable and to whom the audience can connect with.
This film is carbon copy of Halloween Kills, no plot, unlikable characters who make dumb decisions and blood, lots of blood and gore and an ending which serves as a slap to the audience's face.
See for Me (2021)
Blind Cat-Sitter in HUGE mansion - Need I Say More?
Just Stop! I mean Blind and unlikeable main actor? The plot in itself is dumb! Look at the coincidence! An army vet who just happens to be registered in the see for me app happens to receive a call from a blind girl who just happens to be victim of a home invasion and happens to have gotten a gun, let me remind you while being blind and now has to guide a blind girl through the HUGE mansion and helps her shoot the intruders! Wow! Give this director an award for having written the most coincidences in a plot ever! Watch Hush 2016! Awesome film.
420 IPC (2021)
What A Messy Blurr
Where is this plot going? What is happening? Like what was the writer thinking when he added these unnecessary twists and turns into the plot making it a cheap copy of "Hollywood's The Lincoln Lawyer"? What was the director thinking? What was the casting director thinking when he okayed this cast? What was the producer thinking when he wasted his money on this project? I mean Bollywood should do better! We have seen good Court Room Drama Movies such as Jolly LLB and OhMyGod etc, but this one just hurt my brain, because it was unable to understand the motivation of the script writer. Just Skip this film, I have warned you.
Encounter (2021)
Breathtaking! Initially 8 stars!
Originally I would have given this film a solid 8, but due to some dum ppls I am adding 2 stars more.
So to the review: This film was amazing! Despite the fact that I started with the expectation of some body snatchers type aliens, I am in no way disappointed how this film played out!
People are butthurt because of the "wrong labelling", however there were scenes where you could see alien bugs! It does not matter that ultimately it was all in his head! Don't watch it for the genre, watch it for Riz Ahmed, who carried this film with his amazing acting! Hats off! The final scene was just breathtaking, I was just waiting for the gun shot sound, but I am happy it did not happen!
2021 did NOT deliver many great movies, but this is definitely among my TOP 10!
Halloween Kills (2021)
Halloween Kills Your Braincells
I am sooo utterly disappointed by this movie!
Despite the very realistic 80's vibe and setting in the beginning of the film the film become a cheap and senseless followup!
The previous film was really good! The characters involved were very likable and interesting, however in this film there was just no background, just random people were forced to be connected to the innitial franchise! Furthermore one dumb choice after the other. I am so disappointed rn.
Jamie Lee Curtis had a very forgettable and non-existent part in this film, why do they want to drag this franchise even more? Why start the film exactly where it stopped when there was just no development of the storyline planned! Sure the film ended with Curtis losing her daughter (which was like the dumbest death scene in this film), but does this bring us deeper into the storyline?
No One Gets Out Alive (2021)
If you love THE Ritual, watch this!
I must say, I have been waiting for a horror film with a creepy mythological creature like the one we saw in The Ritual! Despite the fact that we don't get any background of the creature in this movie, the terrifying look reminds me of the monsters of annihilation and the ritual alike. I know there is a slim chance for a sequel, but I would love to see more about the myths revolving around the creature in the stone box. A creature that is being fed with the heads of its sacrifices (similar to the traditions of the aztec civilization, where women were beheaded to serve as a sacrifice for their sun god). It could certainly stem from that myth, as the aztec civilization did feel honored to be sacrificed, the same thing said by Becker. Long story short, watch it you won't be disappointed!
Candy (2021)
Honest Review
It seems that most will not share my opinion, but still I want to share it. There is no doubt that the storyline and events in the show were gripping and intense at times, however it does not deliver something new. Most of us have watched films and shows that play with double or even triple twists, but this show did not show the romance between Kalki and Mehul enough for the final twist to work its magic. The primary death scene, which showed a gruesome murder, was left unsolved until the very end of the show. The fact that Mehul's murder had nothing to do with the drugs is somewhat disappointing. After watching the end of the show I was left with a meh feeling. The built up was great but everything ended in a clishe, the corrupt politicians, the rapist headmaster and priest, and finally the reveal of the real killer, a jealous non-girlfriend. I was really looking forward to be blown away, by the story, but sadyl I was not. The ending was too rushed. And I hope there is no sequel, as it will have to be able to live up to Mirzapur, which it certainly will not.
