Castle: The Squab and the Quail (2013)
Double standard
Looking the user reviews vs the episodes: Whenever Castle literally cheats on Kate and walk with some bimbo in front of Kate, some viewers vote it up, but whenever Kate feels insecure by Castle taking her for granted, diminishing her appeal, making her close to someone universally desired by most women, they hate the episode and call the guy random. The episode makes total sense. Do I like the heroes cheating? NO, no one likes this, because it decreases the charisma we feel for them, but it really makes sense for Kate to do what she does. And it would be good to not have double standards when judging who is cheating who. Castle deserved it and Castle is a charismatic geek comical guy and this didn't change in this episode, he is the same as always.
So the episode feels right, despite the cheating part.
Castle: The Wild Rover (2013)
Could've been better
The episode has a lot of good potential and Ryan is an extremely charismatic character. I liked the fact that he appears more and reveals more of his life, BUT the "woman-of-the-past" he forgot about during 7 years is a very weak link to hold the character's motivation to go through the episodes dangerous events. This background story seems far-fetched considering the character's personality and even more his feeling of debt with the random woman of the past, who always belonged to a dangerous environment even before him and stayed alive for 7 years after he left, risking even his happy life as newlywed in a very critical moment for the couple - it doesn't feel like Ryan at all.
Castle: A Rose for Everafter (2010)
The episode felt off and predictable
The episode was very predictable as a whole and the most interesting characteristic from Castle, his fruitful imagination, was nullified.
The episode was boring, Alyssa's Milano's character was annoyingly predictable and Castle looked like a dummy without personality. Everything because a short and unimportant relationship from ages ago appears out of the blue in front of a man that is clearly an womanizer and hates marriages, after marrying twice and even having a daughter with another. Doesn't make any sense to the character's behaviour until now. She was never mentioned nor even hinted before nor this relationship was hinted at all.
So, it sounded forced and slow. Painfully uninteresting to watch, until the point I had to skip some boring dialogues with the "ghost bride" and about her with other characters. Also, the way they bended Castle to this forced relationship made his ties with Becket very shallow, to say the least. If it's so easy to surrender for another woman that didn't have any participation for most of his life, Becket, whom he deals with on a daily basis, is nothing to him and easily forgettable. Any woman in Becket's position and intelligence would back off from a friendship and anything more intimate with him. For us, the viewers, Castle doesn't seem interesting and becomes your very vulgar everyday nobody variety that no one wants to watch.
Maya and the Three (2021)
Wrong message
Sadly, the great cast of voices is not enough to overcome the wrong messages since episode 1.
It's ok to talk about hard themes with kids, but there are good ways and bad ways to do that and the series do the second.
Adultery? It is not ok at all to let a kid of 7yo face this subject and let them think it is nothing. I was watching with my nephew and my niece (7 and 9, respectively) and he didn't understand why the king cheated and she was frustrated by the queen being "dumb" about it (her words). After that, she didn't like the royal parents and didn't want to watch the show anymore. And I see the problem as there is no positive nor empowering message about the way the queen dealt with it (stabbed him? *facepalm* - one mistake after another). Maybe in the 50's this kind of plot made through, but nowadays we expect some respect for women in shows (specially ones aimed for children).
Besides all the talking about human sacrifice and letting the main character think their parents were in doubt about delivering her to the gods, even if it was for seconds in a discussion behind her back. I don't need to comment about the ripping the heart part - simply too much.
For my side, I was hoping for something light but clever and I got none. Everything is rushed, dark and the dialogue is weak. The plot is full of holes and the characters are very shallow compared to other kids shows on Netflix.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Farewell, Cruel World! (2017)
Annoying without limits
This whole plot was hard to swallow. It started with some promises, but soon it became clear that it wouldn't deliver.
I'm giving 2 (instead of 1 star) for the good acting. Shame that the plot wasted everything with its annoyance: poor and non-sense dialogues, disconnection from the time in the real world and their lives (even considering a VR), lack of action, undervaluation of some characters (it becomes obvious that the supporting actors are irrelevant, disposable and creates an abyss between them and the main core cast).
But, the worst part of everything is Aida. I was hoping for an Ex-Machina kind of character and instead I got a boring secretary, frustrated with her code and seeking loving and forgiveness for being a bad bot, instead of taking advantage of the Darkhold. She blames Radcliffe for all her damaging actions and run away from her responsibilities. She found a way to go around his code to do damage and kill, but couldn't do the same to do good? I don't buy this half-baked plot. It was a forced path down the hill and an even worse attempt of redemption. In the end of this episode, I was rolling my eyes impatient, praying for its end and wishing the russian would kill her in that corridor and let her to drown forgotten how it should be.
