Chasing the Win (2016)
Inspiring underdog (horse) story
I didn't think I would enjoy this film as much as I did. I found myself rooting for Kinsale King so hard! haha. I don't know much about horse racing, so this film was a nice way for me to understand the difficulty and dedication it takes for everyone involved to win and be successful. Definitely give it a watch. Refreshing to have an inspiring story, especially in the weird times we live in!
The Redeeming (2018)
Intimate Thriller
I love these types of films that are a study in the human psyche. It's intimate and claustrophobic. The twist in the end was very interesting. Definitely give it a watch. Especially if it's raining outside. If you liked Misery, you'll enjoy this.
Broken Ceiling (2018)
Thought provoking
Intense and well acted, this film will have you thinking of the struggles of being stuck in the hamster wheel of corporate America. Karan Kendrick does a great job holding the film up and really portrays the obstacles of her character well. Great film to start a conversation about the way we live our lives. Definitely worth checking out.
Craig Quits His Day Job (2016)
Reminded me of Office Space
Funny film that is unapologetic about it's goofiness. The lead actor playing Craig is a mix of Lumbergh and the red stapler guy from Office Space. He cracked me up every time he was on screen.
Witty writing and all around fun. check this out for your late night smoke and drink movie, sit back and have a laugh or three.
Purdah (2018)
Inspiring and eye opening
An incredible and inspiring film about an Indian Muslim girl in Mumbai chasing her dreams of playing cricket. The subjects are fascinating and charming. You really empathize with them.
This film captured the daily lives of the people living in Mumbai and it was really well shot. Heart warming and insightful, give this film a watch. You'll be rooting for Kaikasha the whole way.
Bigger Than the Game (2018)
We need more films like this.
Inspiring story of overcoming the odds. Great to see a film that has a positive message that is well written and directed. I was also impressed with the lead actor who carried the film nicely. Refreshing sports film. Definitely a watch!
Bugs: A Trilogy (2018)
David Lynch would be proud.
This is a mind bending anthology that reminds me of the works of David Lynch and the Japanese film 3 Extreme. It is very well shot and acted. Very unlike anything out there and it holds the best of what independent cinema has to offer. A vision that is unique and different and very unapologetic of its tone.
If you're looking for something different and refreshing, this is it. It has an Outer Limits/Twilight Zone vibe. And I ain't mad at that. Definitely check it out!
Stadium Anthems (2018)
If Spinal Tap, Christopher Guest, and Seth Macfarlane had a baby.
I honestly wasn't expecting this film to be as funny as it is! Usually, mockumentaries fall flat for me but this film had me cracking up. It's raunchy, offensive, and over the top. AND I'M ALL FOR IT. Not to mention Star Wars references abound. (Boba Fetish anyone?)
Living in LA, I witness firsthand how crazy and weird the music industry can be and this film capitalizes on that.
The acting is great and the writing is so tight. The pacing is whiplike and the running time flies by so quick.
I am looking forward to more of Writer/Director Scott Douglas Brown brings to the fray. Definitely check this out.
