Peaky Blinders (2013)
Very good up until a point
I really loved.the show... at first. I'll just start with the good: the cast is amazing. Cillian Murphy in particular is outstanding. I always liked him before, but this is on another level. Now I will watch literally anything else he's in. The production design is great, too. It really captures the feel of the time period phenomenally. The cinematography really works well with the feel they're going for. Steven Knight (the showrunner) really deserves accolades. It's criminal that it didn't manage to snag a single Emmy in the entire run.
The only quibble is have is the addition of the talking dune buggy in the last season. Cillian Murphy (playing a dual role as the voice actor) is doing his best, but it really felt out of place. I honestly don't know why they added it other than maybe an attempt to draw in a younger audience, but I really don't feel like that's appropriate.
Great show overall though!
Chain Letter (2010)
Clichéd, Gimmicky Schlock
I give this movie 3 stars, almost solely because it has the doctor from Deadwood in a fairly prominent role. Performances hearken back to the days of "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and related slasher movies of the '90s, so the usual 20-somethings playing high schoolers badly. The kills were predictable and always had the gimmick of using chains in some way, which was kinda fun, but was way overdone.
This is all expected in this genre, but the worst is the ending: THERE ISN'T ONE. You barely find out who the killer(s) are, it shows the main character (if she can be called that) being killed, then it throws up the title card and rolls the credits. I know they're probably trying to set up for a sequel, but it ends up looking like they ran out of budget after they filmed an hour and a half of footage.
Don't bother with this one. You can find better uses of your time.
