The Patriot (2000)

Thoroughly entertaining

I have been a Mel Gibson fan since his very good Mad Max and his horrible Summer City. I loved this movie and it is in my top ten favorites of all time. Mel is very believable as Benjamin Martin who fights only after he looses one son to death and one son to the army. Heath Ledger plays Gabriel Martin who goes to fight for his country despite his father's protests. I know that not all of the facts are historically correct but this is a movie and did not claim to be a history lesson. The period is portrayed very well and the battle scenes are so well done that you almost feel you are there. This movie is very graphic in the battles and if you do not like the sight of blood and other realistic battle scenes then this might not be the movie for you. I watched the entire movie and did not realize the length. I was so engrossed in the plots.

Excellent and entertaining movie

I am a big fan of Bon Jovi the group and of Jon's. This is the 4th of Jon Bon Jovi's movies that I have bought. I thoroughly enjoyed the others but this is really the first one that I stopped thinking of him as Jon and was rooting for "Jamey". From watching his first movies I can see an enormous growth in his acting ability. He was excellent as were the rest of the cast. Jamey was funny, sweet, considerate and loving. From the first of the movie Jamey is trying to go down the straight and narrow to get his life back on track after taking the fall for his brother. But the world and his brother seem in cahoots to bring him down. I will watch this many times as it was well worth the money!

honest movie showing real feelings

This was not a fast paced movie and as some say more of a chick flick. Basically it is a movie with a lot of dialogue that you might hear in your every day life. A look at the relationships of several friends as they navigate thru life. The cast consists of excellent actors Josh Charles, Joanna Going, Penelope Ann Miller, Annabella Sciorra, JoBeth Williams and Jon Bon Jovi. having seen the first 5 in movies over the years I knew they could make the characters believable but it is Jon Bon Jovi that I have seen a very rapid growth in his acting ability. He was very good and on the same level as the rest of the cast. If you want an action movie this is not the one for you but if you like the small movie that shows feelings and the things that people go thru then this might be worth seeing.

Charming and wonderfully funny

An excellent cast makes this movie well worth watching. There are a couple of places that drag a bit but the rest more than make up for it. Robin Grange (Jon Bon Jovi) is an actor on the run from Hollywood after a faux paux with the wife of the head of the studio. In England he takes the part of a hit man in a play, offers and is hired to seduce the wife of the plays author and reaps the rewards. The author, Felix Webb (Lambert Wilson) seems not to know what hits him when Robin is going after not only his wife but his mistress. Helena Webb (Anna Galiena) does not take very long to decide to opt for the handsome leading man over the older spouse. And the long suffering mistress, Hilary Rule (Thandie Newton), finally gets her man (Felix). There is mystery surrounding Robin which lures not only Helena and Hilary but any other female in the vacinity. A very interesting and enjoyable movie. Jon Bon Jovi is fun to watch as the seductive, mysterious Robin Grange. The rest of the cast is also excellent. A movie to watch more than once.

Funny yet moving

This movie surprised me. I had gotten it ONLY for Jon Bon Jovi as I am a big fan and wanted to see one of his first movies. I thought he was very good as well as irresistable as The Painter. But then I got into the movie and enjoyed the interaction between the women played very well by Elizabeth Perkins, Whoopi Goldberg, Kathleen Turner and Gwyneth Paltrow. Altho a female I am not usually into chick flicks but this was worth seeing.

Beautifully done

Exciting and beautiful action/drama/western that has gorgeous scenery, wonderful actors and a fine script. I have to say this movie is in my top ten movie favorites. The characters are wonderful and charming. The Ludlow's are played by fine actors Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, Aidan Quinn and Henry Thomas. The women in their lives are played by Julia Ormond and Karina Lombard. The Ludlows have many flaws but in the end they come together as the family they are. Some slow spots but there is a lot of action, drama and romance. Also for the faint of heart there is violence and one especially bloody scene. I do watch it often.
