Atlas (2024)

Melodramatic overacting

The writers and script may be at least partly responsible for the overacting of Jennifer Lopez who dominates most scenes by arguing, whining, crying or screaming in an unconvincing melodramatic manner. The storyline itself is awkward and frankly unbelievable with stark gaps that make very little sense even in a Sci Fi movie like this one that stretches the imagination. The supporting cast also struggled to make the film any better.

The special effects are above average and are the only reason most people should rate this film at a 4. Here again, the bad acting detracted from some of the more spectacular scenes.

The Caine Mutiny Court-Martial (2023)

Overall a decent remake

Although the 2023 version consists of the trial only, Sutherland's portrayal of Captain Queeg was not bad at all. Of course, following Bogart's portrayal in the original "Caine Mutiny" is a tough act to follow. Few actors can rise to the talent of Humphrey Bogart as a person consumed with paranoia. His Fred C. Dobbs in "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre" is another great example.

The rest of the supporting cast in this film were credible as well. The late Lance Reddick, was always excellent in every role he played. It was odd that Dale Dye, famed military film advisor had a non-speaking role and just appeared as a juror in the court martial.

I definitely recommend seeing both versions of this story before offering an opinion.

The Pope's Exorcist (2023)

Better than average exorcist film

Personally, I thought Russell Crowe was remarkable in this role. His character was unwavering under extreme duress initially until the realization of just how evil his demonic opponent was became apparent. He pulled it off well in my opinion.

The demonic special effects were on par with other films of this type and generated several chills throughout the movie. This should be expected during any better than average horror film, and this one delivered.

If I have to make one complaint, and it's a minor one, there was quite a bit of captioning making certain that viewers had to pay close attention.

I'm not big on horror films, but IMO this one was better than what some other viewers have reported.
