The X Files: Trevor (1999)
Another clever episode from Season 6
After getting reassigned back to the
X-files midseason Mulder and Scully have been getting some real freaky cases. This one focuses on a Mississippi prison mate, who at first is thought to have died during a twister, but seems instead to have been affected during the tornado and gifted with the ability to pass thru solid objects. The character is a bit more complex than first thought. His repeated motto of "I want what is mine" isnt really about the bank robbery he went to prison for.
John Diehl plays this part so well; determined, but not too over the top. The other side characters are pretty standard, one dimensional and I think the ending was bit rushed but overall its still a pretty good episode..
Bonus points...
If you are a true x-file fan and fan of its core actors you should catch the injoke relating to the prisoner's name "Pinker" and the name of Mitch Pileggi's character in the movie "Shocker. This alone made me want to add 2 stars to the score.
Entrapped (2022)
Pretty good as a stand alone season
I started watching this show unaware that is was actually Season 3 of the series Trapped. Season 1 and 2 are no longer available on Netflix, but its not hard to follow this as a stand alone season since they mention previous events. I thoroughly enjoyed Olafsson as the lead. He exudes the loner cop with emotional baggage very well.
His other 2 main cast members are also very convincing as police officers.
There were quite a few twists and turns and a couple red herrings before the real culprit was revealed, not who I suspected, so it kept me hooked. I loved the long range shots of the geography that enhanced the feeling of isolation and being "entrapped" in the circumstances. The pacing and the sort of less is more dialog, is nice when compared to the usual fast talking, scurring cops most American shows portray. And the ending left me wondering if there will be a Season 4.
The Munsters (2022)
This will be a Campy Cult Classic in years to come
If you are a Hardcore Munsters and Rob Zombie fan you will appreciate the deliberate campiness of this movie.
The costumes, special effects, background sets are fabulous. The easter eggs and cameos ( mostly voices) are nice nods to the original show and its celebrity fans.
It gave a funny background story to why and how they came to be a family
The main cast did a good job of capturing the spirits of the original characters to an extent.
No one will ever top Fred Gwynne' s deep voice, iconic laugh and stomp but JDP did his best.
The ending was a tad abrupt but it left open the opportinity for a follow up to perhaps show them a few years later and include Eddie and Marilyn.
Nisser (2021)
Good story- a twist on old myth
Its a good story, takes old myth/legend and puts a modern twist to it.
I think it was well written, directed and acted.
It was a tad slow in spots but
I'm a fan of foreign language tv and movies so I know that style is how it was intended to be---build to a climax... not shock in your face the whole time.
Those who reviewed it as boring and awful were probably wanting a fast paced slasher..
