Cannes Confidential (2023)
Jury still out
The first episode follows a tried and true formula. Two opposites working on a long term case, while involved in smaller, week to week cases.
I wish the characters would look a bit more human. The Harry King character has a constant grin, as if he hears some jokes unknown to the viewers. The Camille character (Lucie Lucas) gives me the impression of a model acting in a hair shampoo commercial, and not a cop fighting crime.
I still can't figure out what's the general atmosphere in the series. Is it a serious flick or is it a light hearted buddy action series.
If the first season is already shot, I don't feel so good about the other episodes.
Clark (2022)
Groundhog day?
The movie starts nicely. Glorifying a crook and sex scenes are not a problem. The problem it trying to watch 6 episodes that look like I'm watching something in a loop: sex, crime, prison... and then again sex, crime, prison... and so on.
Julia (2022)
Amazing Sarah Lancashire
This is a very cute show nicely done (with some added scenes to accommodate the PC crowd).
Above it all stands Sarah Lancashire. Her portrait is accurate in its looks, sound and emotion. I liked Meryl Streep in Julie & Julia, but it pales in comparison to this wonderful performance.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Disappointing last two chapters
The series started great, with nice plot and believable characters.
Everything went well, with smart investigation, until the last two chapters. All of a sudden we saw a wholesale of cases solved, as if it was a drive through in a fast food restaurant.
There a twist in the main case, which was the backbone of the series, and I expected a brilliant solution from the lawyer, but the writers went for a "cheat" to close the issue, which left me VERY disappointed..
The Kominsky Method (2018)
Who kidnapped the great show?
After two great seasons, where I would give a solid 10, came season three. It's hard to believe that this is the same show. First two seasons were very funny (if you're over 40), where one joke chased another.
Season three feels like the writer got lazy, and wrote the script just so he can collect a Netflix paycheck. The jokes were removed from the script, leaving painful 25 minutes of a waste of time.
Mare of Easttown (2021)
Daytime drama
If you like soap, you will enjoy the show. If you're looking for crime drama - stay away. I expect crime solving in crime dramas. What you have here is highly dysfunctional families, that won't shame any daytime soap.
At the center of the disaster is a police detective that spends most of her awaking hours dealing with her emotional problems, leaving very little time for crime solving. Both crimes solved with no relevance to the detective work.
Investigations go nowhere, until a witness pops up from nowhere, A YEAR AFTER THE CRIME WAS COMMITED, who amazingly remembers car make, color and partial license plate number.
Second crime "solving" again happens because a neighbor calls to complain that he lost his Eagles memorabilia, and BTW, lost a gun at one point, and he has video showing the culprit.
This kind of crime solving could have been done by an amateur kid detective.
