Anachronox (2001)
Superheroes, Comedy, and Mystek- Oh My!
Anachronox is a generally-ignored game-turned-movie by the Ion Storm team. Though the game is usually positive, its best part was its cutscenes which have been compounded to form Anachronox: The Movie (ATM.)
ATM's main character is Sylvester Bucelli ("Sly Boots") whose quest to pay his bar tab embarks him on a Quest To Save The UniverseT. Characters ooze with personality, made believeable by the superb voice talent, through a mostly cohesive and perhaps 'short' plot, though these qualms are minor. (Some cutscenes were cut and the game was shortened.) There's humor in nearly every scene and you probably wouldn't notice. Graphically, all is modeled with a modified Quake II engine- many, many polygons for those unknowing- but all the characters at least look vibrant.
Anachronox has a zany humor sense within a cohesive plot which, if I've seen it prior, don't recall it being done so well.
House of 1000 Corpses (2003)
Torture for the characters and myself
This movie was horrible. HORRIBLE. No plot, no story line, I know NOTHING about the characters. This was just a 70 minute torture scene. I hated it. I'm a fan of horror films, don't get me wrong. I just hate sadistic ones. I went in the movie knowing nothing about it, and I ran out of the movie just hoping to see the light of day. It's a sick, graphic film that in my opinion, should've been X-rated. They should've been selling barf bags instead of popcorn.
Insomniac with Dave Attell (2001)
Buy a pack of diapers to watch this--you'll be peeing your pants!
This show has got to be one of the best on TV. It's so hilarious, whatever Dave does, I laugh so hard at. He does things I never even have heard of!! If you're looking for a great show to just laugh at and forget all your problems, "Insomniac" is the one
Jigsaw (2002)
Good for some laughs
I saw this movie during Flashback Weekend 2002 in Chicago. I had never heard of it, but I stayed for it anyway. At first, I regretted it because it seemed like the movie would be horrible. But as it went on, it turned out to be not that bad.
This movie starts out with this professor telling his students about a project they'll be involved in. The project is each of the students will get one part of a skeleton (not a real one, one used for something like a science class). The students will do something to that part of the skeleton to make it their own. (Like decorate it with things that mean something to them, etc). They will all get together the next Saturday night at a bar and put the pieces back together, hence the title "Jigsaw"
I won't tell anymore except for the killer is so ridiculous, you just have to laugh at its stupidity. If you wanna rent a cheesy movie, this one's great if you don't take it too seriously. Don't expect to scared by this, because if you did, that'd be even funnier than the movie.
Sleepaway Camp (1983)
Great campy horror flick, BEST ENDING
"Sleepaway Camp" is a cheesy horror movie, but it's actually good. People have claimed that it is a rip off of the "Friday the 13th" movies, but I don't really see any connection between the films, except for they're both at camp. If you really do not want to see this movie, just see it for the ending. It's hilarious and shocking and horrible all at the same time. Two thumbs up.
