Überflieger 2 - Das Geheimnis des großen Juwels (2023)
Another sequel NOBODY asked for
This was the next movie after A Stork's Journey, which wasn't very good to begin with. Richard, a sparrow with an identity crisis, who believes he is a stork. Yeah... really. He is probably the most annoying, ungrateful character in an animation film. But let's not forget the parakeet that is coming out, and sings the disco song REPEATEDLY to make sure you know. Because what's a children's movie without a queen in it? So this one finds them in some sandy African country and Richard has to pass a test to prove he is ready to lead the flock, but he does an extremely dangerous stunt, rising the life of his adopted brother. Yet he thinks he should have won. It gets worse from there. The parakeet becomes a hiphop singer? The owl with the imaginary friend loses the friend in a mirror controlled by an evil peacock. The only time I actually laughed or responded at all was the part with the bus. It was horrible, and I can't believe I laughed, but it literally came out of nowhere! I was just stunned, really. So that's the top bit, the bus. If you are forced to watch this, and I have the utmost sympathy for you if you should, you will see what I mean. The bus! Haha.
Wendell & Wild (2022)
Good stop motion but story lacking
The stop motion animation was excellent.
However, it was rather dark and is more for older teens/young adults. Definitely not a young children's movie. It is a little weird and scary, like Nightmare before Christmas, but NOWHERE near as good. The story was simple, the main character was not very intelligent, all she cared about was herself and bringing her parents back from the dead- not something meant for children to believe as an actual possibility, even in movies.
The whole painting the roofs thing by the trans kid? More like graffiti and vandalism! Yet they didn't leave out the TRANS part, of course. Not surprising that the only white person in the entire movie was a psychotic, greedy lady....
And what about Heaven/hell?? There was only the scream circus. Did her parents just think they were sleeping?? Too many questions that were too deep not to go into, BUT too dark for the selected audience. It was basically a mish-mash of a fever dream and a nightmare with p.c. Themes tossed in. Key and Peele are the only fun characters, and they weren't all that great.
Marmaduke (2022)
No words for this absurdity
Poorly animated, badly scripted, not entertaining or funny (a waste of an SNL cast member) and senseless storyline. This was supposed to be released in 2019, and because of COVID it wasn't. It appears that nobody touched it these three additional years for ANY improvements to the editing, writing or animating. Not worth the time unless you are playing it for a 4 year old, and even THEY might not watch it!
Something Bit Me: We Were Being Hunted... (2022)
The people in both stories were so unprepared
The bear attack was extremely hard to watch, not because of the violence, but because these people had absolutely no business being out there, that far away from help, without any type of defenses, save a dd battery electric fence and a few shots of flares. Of course the attack happened the first night. The "rusty gynecologist" was very creepy and I'm glad he wasn't mine. But that excursion leader is to blame for everything they went through. Everything they did was the wrong choice. The man is lucky to be alive.
