Civil War (2024)
Wasted 2 hours of my life, and probably 2 years of my hearing.
Went in expecting a thrilling, realistic, emotional depiction of what America could come to if we continue the division and polarization we currently are in. Just 10 minutes in, the dramatic and obnoxious sound effects and the complete lack of context and storyline had me contemplating whether to walk out, yet I stayed in my seat, figuring it would get better based on the generally positive reviews I saw online.
The sound effects and music are completely out of place: heavy metal and hip hop music playing when people are dying, and some weird meditation music playing as a forest is engulfed in flames. I almost fell asleep because of how boring and out of place the movie was, only to be awaken by obnoxiously loud noises and music that are probably designed to keep peoples' attention throughout this poorly-made film.
The entire movie is alike to a teenager playing a video game and driving around like crazy in the midst of shooting and explosions with no context whatsoever. There was no introduction, no storyline, no plot, and no meaning. With the hip hop music and obnoxious sounds playing whilst deceased bodies are displayed, I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to feel sad or upbeat, or just completely puzzled as to what the hell is going on. There's literally nobody to root for, because you don't know who any of them are.
I left the theater feeling deeply unsatisfied and confused. I wasted almost 2 hours of my life, and probably 2 years of my hearing.
What Is a Woman? (2022)
Mirror of Society
Well-done, The Daily Wire. I appreciate the fact that the film wasn't so preachy, and that Matt Walsh barely even made any comments himself on the issue in the film. Instead, he let the movement speak for itself, which was profoundly more effective.
Whether you are left-wing or right-wing, and whether you agree with Matt or not, you can still appreciate this documentary because most of the speaking and content is being given by the people and movement the documentary is covering.
The most effective way to criticize or shine light on a part of society is to let it expose itself. "What is a Woman?" brilliantly does just that.
Manifest: Final Boarding (2023)
Inspiring, nostalgic, and beautiful ending.
Despite many questions left unresolved, the series manages to produce a satisfactory and inspiring ending that beautifully wraps up the series, bringing us great nostalgia from when the series just started.
As always, the acting within this show is absolutely phenomenal.
I do wish there was more clarification and questions answered, and I do think that there is room for a sequel - which I hope will happen.
Nevertheless, this TV series is one of the best shows I have ever watched, and I am very happy to have found this show over a year ago while randomly scrolling through Netflix. I highly recommend watching this inspiring series.
Grey's Anatomy: Let's Talk About Sex (2022)
Overly Political, Preachy, Insincere
This episode abruptly takes on a very sensitive topic with no build-up or proper storyline. The dialogue for this topic is delivered in a very non-genuine way, and it is blatantly clear that this episode was designed to spread a political agenda and practically lecture the audience on something that is already a known and controversial issue.
I don't watch Grey's Anatomy for politics. Nobody wants to go onto a medical drama TV show looking for lectures or controversies written in a way that has no connection to the plot whatsoever.
Possibly the worst episode in the entire series. Why continue the drama of the current politics on a TV show when the entire reason we come to watch your show is to relax, get a glimpse into medicine, and be entertained? Off to a bad start this season.
Love, Victor: Brave (2022)
Rushed ending; not as sentimental as I would have hoped..
The final season of the show, as you probably already know, was a short 8 episode season that did not provide enough time to have a proper closure and end to the storyline. It is a huge disgrace that Hulu cancelled a show that had immense potential and was growing into success - and it's truly a shame that they did not at least give 10 episodes this season or have a fourth season.
There's many things left unanswered. What's up with Felix's mom, Dawn, having memory problems that aren't really addressed? What's going to happen between Pilar and Felix? And most of all, what's going to happen with Benji and Victor - especially since Benji still told Victor he needs to focus on his own issues.
The final episode was not enough to provide a good closure to the show, and that is probably the fault of Hulu for canceling the show so early.
Heartstopper (2022)
Amazing Show, Heartwarming & Inspiring
Heartstopper is probably one of my favorite TV series on Netflix. I can see why it has raged in popularity.
The main characters, Nick and Charlie, have amazing chemistry - and it seems very genuine and pure. There isn't an over-exaggerated amount of angst or discourse, and it is overall very realistic for how a relationship looks like when it is starting.
I hope season 2 can cover more of the story with Nick and Charlie, and Nick possibly coming out to the school. It would be interesting to have some plot twists where Nick has to help or save Charlie.
You know a show is good when it is renewed for 2 seasons simultaneously. I hope season 2 comes as early as possible. Highly recommend watching this series.
Criminal Minds (2005)
Life-Changing Series
Criminal Minds is the most inspirational and life-changing show I have ever watched. It has changed my life in so many ways and brought me so much inspiration and joy from watching it. As a person suffering from mental health issues, this show really helped me get through some of it and I got to connect with all of the characters. The characters and actors are absolutely phenomenal, and there are no words other than to say watch this show, and you won't regret it.
13 Reasons Why (2017)
Phenomenal and Therapeutic Show; Helped me through Depression
13 Reasons Why is a teen drama series following the emotional suicide of a high school girl, Hannah Baker. The show explores many different struggles teenagers and everyone goes through within their lives. It shows the deep and darkening effects of mental health issues, and it shines a light on suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and resources for those who are mentally ill. The show has faced harsh controversy due to some scenes and the themes of the show. I can say, coming from a person with a multitude of mental health issues, this show in no way glorifies or glamorizes suicide or self-harm in anyway. The show shows the reality of how taking your life is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. It is NOT an option. 13 Reasons Why shows the detrimental effects of suicide and how it can deeply effect those around you in awful ways. One of the scenes in the 1st season finale was Hannah Baker's suicide. This scene was later removed because of complaints it was graphic and what not. This took out a really big part of the show. The scene showed the pain and grief that suicide can bring, and it showed that it is not something good, easy, or quick to go through. After further rewatching of the show and really diving into the scenes and the overall meaning, I can say that I strongly recommend this show for everyone, including those with mental health issues or those struggling. I do however recommend you watch it with someone else, like how I updated my therapist on my thoughts about the show, so that you can share your thoughts and feelings with others. Probably the most emotional impacting show I've seen.
