Deception (2023)
Best Budget Characters!
Jayden Harper is by far the best character George Grozier has played. His performance brings the character to life. It's nice to have a complex character in a budget short film. The other characters are fine but needed more depth. Especially Joshua Foxons character Simon. His characters idea was good but needed more backstory to make him stand out more. The soundtrack is ok but doesn't fit some of the scenes. The opening is rushed but sets up the whole short film so it works. I just wish this was longer. Act 3 definitely feels rushed compared to the previous acts. But overall this is a very production.
The Birthday (2023)
Stupid but fun
You can tell this has no real direction and was just made because it's funny. The plot is simple but then of course turns into a fight, to be fair he fighting is very funny the soundtrack is very serious which unironically fits with the dumb tone. The acting is not acting it's just 4 friend having fun. When comparing to other Budget Productions short films it's better than The Hood and Wanted as I think this is funnier and has begged length being just under 5 minutes long. I hope this level of comedy can be used in a more serious project soon as there's always good chemistry between these lads.
Runner (2023)
Great start the 2023
For Budget Productions standpoints, this is probably their best short film. It has structure and has interesting enough characters. It took them too long to attempt a sigma movie and they've finally done. I'm not entirely sold on the sigma character Regi but they tried their best. The soundtrack is also very familiar🤔
The best character it's probably George Groziers Shannon, he's completely different compared to who he's played before and it works so well.
Although Jack Vickers character Barney is prominent on the poster he has nothing more than a cameo in act 2.
I hope this is the start of well structured short films for Budget!
Facts and Evidence (2022)
The worst lit masterpiece
The lighting is starlight out terrible but the actual short film as actually one of the better Budget Productions short films. It's funny, creative and a unexpected hilarious plot twist. Just a shame the lighting is awful.
Josh and Jack make this short worth watching with some notable performances. Mr Dover is an interesting antagonist that I'll like to see more of as his design is cool. Although it is clearly Jack voicing him. This short film could've been one the best if they could sort the lighting problem. Everything else does stand out compared to their previous short films. It's just fine.
Project Thorn: The Following (2022)
Amazing sequel
A great sequel to the first film. If not better. From the start Project Thorn: The Following is led by an empowering soundtrack. The addition of Eli Johnson feels wasted but it sets up the main plot. It's great to see The Mask have lots more screen time compared to Project Thorn. Jacob Fountain physically brings The Mask to life in this and proves how scary he can be. Brandon returning as Vince is great as he gets more of the spotlight unlike it's predecessor. The only mixed thing about this film is the climax. It feels a little bit rushed with what seems to have cut scenes. The end credits scenes builds up massive hype for next year!
Wanted (2022)
Good but...
Wanted is a feel good short film. It's fast paced and has good comedy. But with a runtime of just under 3 minutes minutes means this ends out of nowhere. The ending does set up a sequel which is a nice touch to the possible future but it feels incomplete.
For a Budget short film it's on the same level as Virgin Wars original release. It's fun but has a lot of flaws.
The acting is the same as usual some teens doing gods work. Josh Foxon steals the show as VJ Nug. The others fulfil their roles well and add to the overall quality of the short film.
When you compare this to Despondency or Project Thorn it does lack a lot.
Gray Cade vs. The Jacket (2022)
One of the Best budget shorts yet!!!
Despondency was the top for a while but in my opinion this has topped it! It's shorter yes, but the fight scenes are and soundtrack is the best budget productions have done. The fight choreography in this is very good. Makes up for the mediocre releases which was 'The Hood'. Nice to see shared screen time between the cast. Obviously it's about Gray and The Jacket but Josh Foxon and George Williams do have a fair share of screen time. Make sure to watch the the bf credits as I was not expecting that announcement! To conclude my review I think (for now) this is the best short released by Budget Productions.
The Night Comes for Us (2018)
I love the part where they say its nightin' time
The choreography in this film is immaculate. I love the creativity of the characters and their journey of brutality. Every character is memorable and the dialogue, although simple, works very well with the characters and the story. The visual and sound effects work incredibly well in this film, you all deserve a pat on the back.
The casting was brilliant aswell, with Iko uwais playing the sort of evil envoy sent to kill the protagonist.
AND THAT FINAL FIGHT. Every action film needs a good final battle, and this film doesn't just succeed at doing that, it excels.
In summary i recommend this film if youre looking for some brutal eye candy and a fun, fast paced action film.
Cold Shoulder: a Budget Productions Music Video (2021)
Underrated
Probably the most underrated project Budget Productions have put out. The story is good, the editing is insane. And the amount of emotion George Grozier delivers is insane. It's a shame this isn't spoken about enough as I'll say it's better then short films like The Hood and maybe even Wanted. Thinking this came out nearly a year ago is crazy. Time has gone really fast. Especially seeing Budget Productions grow and evolve since this release. Considering this was released around the same time as the original Virgin Wars duology and Let it go George edition, this has by far aged the best. Let's get it to 100 views before it's anniversary!
The Hood (2022)
It's certainly exists
It's not the finest short film made by Budget Productions but that doesn't mean it's bad.
It's to a similar quality to 'Wanted' which came out only a month ago. It's the shortest short film made by Budget with a runtime of only 1 minute 20 seconds (not including credits) meaning the original Bounty Hunters is no longer the shortest they've made. The soundtrack used was good and the premise was interesting. This short film deserves a longer version as that'll really Make this one of the best. The end credit scene possibly teases that they're not done with this story and a sequel might be on the way at some point.
Virgin Wars: Bounty Hunters (2022 Remake) (2022)
Somehow better than the original
The original bounty hunters release is an icon for Budget Productions. And somehow this 3 minute remake tops it and created a better story that ties the VCU short films together!
Jacob Bull: The AuTiSMo Collection (2021)
Old but still mostly gold
It's old but still gives out a few good laughs. Jacobs first outing is solid enough to be rewatched a couple of times before getting boring. The sequels are better.
The Pavilion Collection (2021)
Elite collection
This is such a classic. It's old but still holds up very well. Still one of the best collections to date. It's funny and feels like the perfect length.
The Pavilion Collection: Part 2 (2021)
Worst Pav
Part 2 is defiantly the weakest Pav collection. It feels bloated compared to the other two. Part 1 & 3 are a lot better than this mess. The pirates cover is quite funny tho!
The Pavilion Collection: Part 3 (2021)
Let it rest now
I think it's best if the Pav collections go extinct. They're good but a part 4 would be too much. Part 3 is better than part 2 but nothing beats part 1.
Jacob Bull: 2 AuTiSMo for U (2021)
Too short
It's a bit better than the AuTiSMo collection but is still insanely short compared to the Pav collections. If there's a third it needs to be longer than this.
The Alex Weasel Collection (2021)
It's good enough
The rap is great but that's about it. The rest feels rushed and not entirely funny. For an Alex collection this feels weak compared to the source material.
Alex: Let There Be Rage (2021)
Rage >:)
A good, unique collection that's stand well above its predecessor, the weasel collection. It's too a decently high standard and deserves more praise.
Jacob steals the show as venom.
It's All About the Money (2022)
Money
The title is a class act but episode 1 is a drag. The other 2 are good and are worth watching as they feel like long YouTube videos which is a nice approach to a podcast.
The George Grozier Collection (2022)
Groz is good
Considering George has virgin wars known to his name, this collection does well to compare. It's one of the better collections and possibly the best this so far.
Despondency (2022)
Best Budget Productions Short yet!!!
I was concerned at first due to the announcement being just a few days before the release . However, they've outdone themselves. The comedy is pure gold, the acting isn't terrible and it has a story that is relatable. 10/10 you cannot fault this masterpiece.
Virgin Wars (2022 Remake) (2022)
A big improvement
It looks better, sounds better and most importantly is better! Although it's the same footage used in the original, the story makes a lot more sense and we actually get to know Gray Cade a bit more.
Project Thorn (2022)
YES
It's not as good as newer short films but it comes in at a close second place. It was a big surprise having this tied into the VCU but I'm not complaining! Can't wait for the Mask to be (hopefully) be in future VCU film.
Christ-Ian: The Unvirgining (2022)
Sexy
From the intro to the end, Christ-Ian: The Unvirgining is a funny, tense ride. The acting is top notch and the build up to the climax is S tier level.
Highly recommend watching this masterpiece RIGHT NOW. It's free and you won't be disappointed. Trust me :)
The Pavilion Musical (2021)
Cheesy
A very different kind of collection. This is less than of a musical and more of a 'put together a quick video because people want it' which is fair enough. However this is the worst collection by quite a long shot. The collections are known to be cheesy but this is too much to handle. But it's watchable.
