The Lorelei (2016)
Just because it happened in Oxford
Just awful. I gave two stars because it takes place in Oxford. They chose the right place. The acting was terrible, the plot doesn't hold. Whatshername Rebecca acts amateurishly trying to impersonate some femme fatale. Who goes to the murder place next day wearing the same funeral outfit? And the hat? Considering that she had two suitcases in her car. And poor Dan, who should be a good detective, never guessed that his housemate is a common prostitute? Oh, spice it up with some quirky sexual content and you are done, but it doesn't make it a movie worthy to watch. Terrible uninteresting film. Waste of time.
Birds of a Feather (1989)
Mixed feelings
I started watching the serial because my friend likes it so much. It's funny, unusual match of mismatched sisters and their neighbour.
All is good, but Sharon. I can't stand the character, one liner, narrow -minded, chavvy persona, I have met them so many. That's is why she is so irritating always coming up with some corny jokes.
Tracey is kind but moans non stop. She is never happy with or without Darryl.
I didn't not like that both sister, and disgusting Sharon in particular, are unkind to Dorien most of the times.
I liked Dorien very much, the actress is just brilliant.
Overall, fun show.
The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (2001)
Poor plots, boring
I was excited with the opportunity to watch the series at last. The first couple of episodes were okeish until they start banging about child abuse and incests. I am not trying to say that those do not exist, but I started feeling that I have seen something similar many times. And that Helen woman...the most irritating cliché of deep educated woman. She and I have to add Havers here are so inconsistent in their behaviour. Helen is simply neurotic and I wonder how she could realistically carry out the work of the profiler. And Havers. .. One moment she mighty and righteous and next she is meek as a lamb with Lynley. I stopped watching, get really bored. People here say that the books are good. Maybe, but frankly, I lost my appetite...
Poirot: The Labours of Hercules (2013)
Delightful watch, amazing scenery
I would love to stuck in the place like that.
I wonder if the place is available for visitors. I would surely go there.
The cast is excellent but Eleanor Tomlinson. Very pretty, but anyone can act like that, so purely ornamental. But this is my opinion, hopefully, shared by many.
Otherwise, the plot is complicated, as usual and a bit far-fetched in some places. But the acting and scenery compensate for it.
Orla Grady and David Suchet are great as ever. Orla is such a versatile actress.
I am a great fan of Agatha Christie's books and watched so many adaptations. I consider ITV Poirot the best.
Wish You Were Here (1987)
Wasted time
I did not find interesting to watch a movie about unbalanced hormonal teenager who does not value herself and probably ends up on the dole with 5 children all from different men. I live in the area where I am surrounded by such Lyndas. The movie is sad, it made me feel depressed; why it was called comedy drama, I have no idea. Emily Lloyd is awfully pretty though.
The Pursuit of Love (2021)
Just awful...
I expected something enjoyable. Linda character is simply annoying. No substance. Good point is though to show a woman who men are attracted to. A beautiful, but a shallow, selfish, with no moral standings woman.
Why Didn't They Ask Evans? (2022)
I loved it!
I salute you, Hugh Laurie.
A bit stretched and some minor plotlines were added, but overall, delightful.
It is so much better and closer to the plot than Marple's version. Magnificent sceneries.
Emma (2009)
High-- school American serial
It was painful to watch!
Whose idea was it to cast Romola Garai as Emma is difficult to say. She is very much the same in every her role. Overrated actress, in my opinion.
If the producer wanted to create a modern version of Emma, perhaps, it would be better to transfer the idea in modern times.
It was funny to watch the actresses to be dressed and done according to Austin's times and behaved like high-school teens.
Persuasion (2007)
Beautiful
Beautifully filmed. Sally Hawkins is such an amazing actress and so very underrated, in my opinion.
This version is far too modern, however, Sally's performance compensates its faults.
There are plenty of negative reviews here, however, I am glad to see that many people admire Sally's abilities.
Anthony Head is so good as well as domineering, snobbish and utterly selfish father.
Kavanagh QC: The Burning Deck (1996)
Poignant
It's the best episode in my opinion. Honestly, I didn't expect the outcome. Well before Brokeback Mountain. It's just nice, even it is only a movie, to see a true honour and dignity of a man.
Midsomer Murders: The Ballad of Midsomer County (2015)
Not the best episode
Nelson finding the tool to break the door to the cottage scene is just hilarious.
Firstly, because he finds the tool conveniently laying around.
Secondly, no one could hear him when he was removing the planks.
Honestly!
Claudie Blakley is annoyingly similar in all her roles. Saw her in "lark rise to Candleford", in "Manhunt". No much difference, raving feminist who speaks her mind. Do not mind feminists, but can this actress smile? Or say something without this accusatory manner?
The only thing which does not change in "Midsomer Murders" is its beautiful scenery, it is a pure joy to watch!
Shetland (2013)
Season 4
Great plot. Steven Walters is amazing playing vulnerable misguided confused Thomas Malone. I cried my heart out when he died at the end. It is a very convincing story.
Inspector Morse: The Death of the Self (1992)
Not on par with other episodes
I re watched Morse and honestly, I should not have.
Nicole Burgess, a great opera singer, apparently. Why to show so much cleavage to the old man? It's just nauseating pattern throughout the series to show that younger women could find such old men attractive.
Marple: Sleeping Murder (2006)
Awful adaptation
Never seen anything worse. It's simply not Christie's.
