Dark (2017)
Top 5 Shows I've watched all time easily
I could rave about all the things Dark has going for it but all the reviews already do that for me. Instead, I'll just highlight the list of reasons I think you NEED to watch this:
1) If you're a fan of any sort of time travel TV shows, especially realistic sci-fi, what are you even doing still reading this????
2) The execution of the story is immaculate. And I really mean IMMACULATE. The way the characters story lines tie back inotgether, with even characters that seem insignificant actually ending up playing a huge role in the grand scheme of things. This is probably one of the only shows I've ever watched where each character, no matter seemingly big or small, actually plays a crucial role in the overall story line, making the show that much more fun to follow and entertaining.
3) The story line itself. With the expanse and overcrowded realm of movies and consumer media out there nowadays, its really hard to find unique pieces of work with creative substance and a compelling storyline. Well, look no further. Although the first couple of episodes may seem a bit slow because of the world/character building that takes place, by the 6th episode you're definitely going to be wanting to bginge the whole series, but I don;t recommend it. It's something that definitely needs to be savoured and enjoyed.
7 Yards: The Chris Norton Story (2021)
Absolute tear jerker
Man, I'm bawling my eyes out currently writing this but this movie is so inspirational. To see how his life turns out 7+ years after his injury, and how he changes the lives of 6-20+ people around him, and for the better. It really makes you believe in faith and a higher power, and knowing that being a good and kind person who fights and lives the right way pays off in the end. Absolute must watch for the whole family, gave me so much hope to keep pursuing my dreams and keep pushing forward.
Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
This is what the Original was meant to be
My god, at first was I confused as to why I wasn't able to find the nice colored versions of the film, till I realized what it is. But man, is it an absolute joy to watch for those who grew up on watching Justice League and DC heroes on Cartoon network. This is what it was meant to be all along, especially fi they are to rival the extent to which the MCU has developed. They REALLY need to give Snyder complete freedom and let him direct the next few movies to really keep the character development and story arcs progressing and interconnected. He single handedly revived the DC unvierse witht this, they need to let him keep going and building. It'll be worth it for them, and for us, the fans.
Last Chance U: Basketball (2021)
Fresh, Modern Direction with Brilliant character development and story telling
So I'm currently on episode 7 right now (which is the second last episode) and I had to write this review before the last episode so as to not let potential heartbreak, that may await me, bias my review. This is absolutely hands down one of the BEST sports documentaries I've ever seen, and that's throwing in some heavy weights like Iverson, More than a game, and Senna.
The direction of the documentary is Brilliant. I've realized after reading some reviews that the Last Chance U series has quite a following but I was pleasantly surprised by how fresh the direction was. The series overall feels fresh with the right flavour of Hip -Hop mixed into it. As someone who loves basketball, played through HS and is part of the community, you know what the vibes on gameday were like growing up, when you blasted the latest hip-hop single, got your Jordans, Kobe's or Lebron's out, laced up, and went out to put shots feeling the weight of the world watching you but also the thrill of going into battle.
The coaches are what you hear about and see in stories and legends, and you really see the humanity, the struggle and the passion they have for the game. The players are what really take home the cake, of course. Their stories are riveting and bone numbing, with a lot of them having faced some of the toughest challenges middle and lower class kids are subjected too in todays day and age. Some of them have gone through mind numbing ordeals and trials, and how they come through and let their personality flourish through the guidance of the coaches and their love for the game is what pulls you in as each episode ends and you go deeper into the rabbit hole.
Overall, its a must watch if you're a person who loves sports, especially basketball. You start to get invested and wanting them to succeed, and you realize going through that the most important thing the documentary shows you a different perspective of everyday kids on their journey through life, growing and molding themselves, which can be summarized by 2 words: Hoop Dreams.
