Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024)
Like Keaton Never Left
I thought the second film recaptured a lot of the charm from the first movie. Keaton hasn't missed a step and there were plenty of funny moments. Ryder's acting range was very limited but it didn't ruin the film. Ortega played her character well. Past characters absence were quickly explained and the new characters filled in any empty spots. It wasn't scary at all as I brought my 8 year old (who hates Halloween) with me and the film grabbed her attention. She liked Beetleguise and laughed at almost everything he did. Definitely a must see sequel. Now my daughter wants to see the first film too.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
Don't WITNESS
I loved the Road Warrior and Fury Road. The wasteland chases and over-the-top characters were great. I thought Mad Max was good too. Furiosa though, was a disappointment. I watched it with my daughter and we looked at eachother many times with hopes of aspiration. While the few action scenes were good the remaining story was boring. I liked the flying elements that were introduced and how actions in Furiosa led to Fury Road With that said though, it was 30 minutes too long and the ending is going to disappoint you. I don't understand how reviewers are saying it was great, maybe "okay" at best.
Dark Harvest (2023)
Did Some of These Reviewers Even Watch It?
First off it's not a terrible movie if you're into supernatural/fantasy kind of movies. The acting is good and the effects are cool and it's not scary. Some reviewers mention a Cadillac but that's why I question their reviews. Who gets a Corvette mixed up with a Caddy? Anyway, it's a fun, don't think too much kind of movie. Yes it's predictable but then again what modern movie isn't.
Premise: Kids have to hunt a supernatural being one night before midnight. Whomever kills the creature is celebrated and his family receives perks. It's sort of hunger games meets children of the corn, with a dash of a Halloween movie.
Squid Game: The Challenge (2023)
Dragged out too much!
Each episode is about 20 minutes too long as the creators include background history for contestants. I personally don't care why they're there. Many background stories are for contestants who are immediately eliminated which makes you question why did they even include that.
The games are expected but that there are some twists involved and needed. Let's face it, nobody wants the umbrella and the muscle grouped together when they thought it was needed. Also, most challenges are simply luck and have very little to do with skill or strategy.
Overall it's too long and the last two episodes are extremely drawn out by trying to create drama.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021)
Did the 10 star viewers actually see it?
First, my family loves the first movie. We even see it once every month or so. We were so excited to see this one. It started out as the same physical stunts and jokes from the first one (lots of jokes from the first one) and then the story went crazy. I looked at my watch because the movie was dragging on and it was only 30 minutes into it. We were confused as to which story to focus on. The best part of the movie was the last 5 minutes. See it and you'll understand they should have focused more on the "rescues" than anything else. Disappointing story and execution. Excellent CGI.
Raya and the Last Dragon (2021)
Don't listen to amateur movie critics
I'm writing this for the biggest critic possible, my 6yr old daughter. She loved it. The dragon was funny and the story was easy enough to follow along for kids. She even got sad and laughed when needed. There were no scary parts but had decent action to keep kids entertained. The visuals were awesome, you can tell the animators spent a long time making it so perfect. The story was predictable but be real, which movie isn't. Enjoy it for what it was made to be, a kid focused fantasy movie with humor. A traditional modern Disney family movie.
