A Spy Among Friends (2022)
excellent series
Excellent series blending truths, half truths, speculative facts, rumours and fiction. Even when you know the basic story, the series manages to keep you in suspense on the outcome. Excellent acting throughout, especially by Guy Pearce as a very conflicted Kim Philby.
The style and pacing of the series is more John le Carré than Ian Fleming and seems to have been very much influenced by the 1979 series "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy", which original story was in an interesting twist, itself based on the Philby debacle.
Highly recommended to fans of spy stories. Note that you have to pay close attention to the story since what seems like throwaway lines in one episode may turn out to be crucial information in another.
Ten Percent (2022)
Just a copy of the original
Watched the first two episodes since I am a fan of the original Call My Agent. The concept is fine, but the writers just copied the French show: same story, same characters so if you have seen the original, you very quickly figure out what will happen. They even chose actors that look like generally look like the characters in the French original. It also lacks the wit of the original.
Hamburger Hill (1987)
Well made but overlooked classic
This a very well made war movie focusing on one battle of the Vietnam War. The story, script, acting are all excellent as is the score by Philip Glass. If it had come out in any other year, it might have stood out more, but unfortunately came out soon after "Platoon" and "Full Metal Jacket" and has been overshadowed by both. I originally saw the movie in the cinema when it first came out and for a second time recently and it is still as poignant after 30 plus years. Well worth watching.
There Is No I in Threesome (2021)
