Kimi (2022)
A Poor Hitchcock Cover
The same as Rear Window by Hitchcock. Instead of a man peering through a telescope you have a woman listening to peoples Alexa / Kimi devices. She overhears something bad.
The ending veers from Hitchcock and delivers the mundane mandatory mass fighting and killing that Hollywood enjoys so much (thanks Quentin, #sarcasm). Will we ever return to a world where justice isn't as simple as shooting the bad guys dead? Not yet.
So, Minus 1 star for recycled plot, Minus 1 for ruining the recycled plot with a sloppy ending, Minus 1 for the nosy neighbour who turned up at the end and behaved predictably. Plus 1 for Zoe Kravitz - she portrays well and is likeable. Almost plus 1 for the soundtrack but I just couldn't give it 4 stars.
Mercy (2014)
King Classic Horror Thriller
Based on a Stephen King novel, the story ticks all the supernatural boxes. Multi-generational soul stealing, satanic mythology and a little small town intrigue. It's a short film at 78 minutes, and it's about right because there are few surprises for the seasoned horror buff. It is worth a watch, very well executed and an acceptable level of acting for a tv film.
